valentine's day was rolling around, meaning lily and her friends had already planned a school fundraiser. there was a little stand setup, obviously hand-made. it stood a few feet outside the doors to the great hall.
there was a banner decorated with different colored ink, and in a large front written, "VALENTINES CHOCOLATES" lily was sitting proudly at the table, stocked up on heart shaped boxes of sweets and forms attached to clipboards.
"y/n! c'mere!" lily called you over. you smiled at her and went over. you looked at the table filled with an array of different chocolate desserts.
"what's the fundraiser for, lils?" you asked, staring at the pages of forms attached. the dates were already written, but there was a spot to add your name once you'd purchased.
"it's for witches and wizards in need, ever since all these death eaters have began rising up again, people are loosing their family's, and they need help covering the expenses." lily replied, sending you her signature sweet smile.
"the catch is, you get to buy a box of chocolates and have them sent during classes on friday, to whoever you choose." she rested her hands on her chin, still looking up at you brightly.
"i'll buy a box then." you say, reaching into your messenger back and popping a few sickles onto the table.
"just sign right there who you want the recipient to be, your name, and if you'd like, a little message." she said cheerfully, sending the silver sickles into the donation bucket.
you pull out the black ink pen, signing your name in the slot, and then anxiously, almost having second thoughts, filling in sirius black under the recipient.
the two of you had been friends since your very first day of hogwarts. six bloody years you'd been stuck with that idiot. but, over those six years, you'd practically fallen head over heels for him.
the last thing you wanted was to ruin your friendship. sirius had been there for you through thick and thin, but you couldn't keep your feelings to yourself any longer.
the longer you did, the more powerful they became, and someday the words could slip out of your mouth without even realizing it.
under the notes section, you tried to make it quick and brief, well, as quick and brief as you could when confessing your feelings to your best friend.
dear sirius,
i'm sure you already know why you're receiving this. lily didn't exactly make the fundraiser very discreet. i've been holding in how i feel for way too long, so, maybe 78's my year. our year. meet me in my dorm at midnight when you see this.
yours, y/n
you signed off the ink quickly, and then ran away from the table before lily could interrogate you about who you bought one for.
* time skip *
the chocolates were out. your letter was out. sirius knew. your heart was practically beating out of your chest. it was nerve-racking, waiting for midnight to strike. only a few more minutes.
just like clockwork, when your clock dinged at 12 AM, you heard a rapping on your dorm door.
you open it to see your shaggy-headed best friend. "sirius, what's up?" you say, opening your door to invite him in.
"y/n, i don't wanna bounce around it. i saw the letter. is that truly how you feel?" he sat down on the edge of your bed, looking at you.
"do you want the truth?" you asked, crossing your arms and leaning against a bookcase in your dorm room.
"yes, the whole truth." he says, playing with his hands in his lap.
"yes, it's true. i've liked you since first year. the feelings never faded. it's been hard watching you go to the yule ball, on all these dates, messing around after parties, having hogsmeade days with all these girls. all these years, i wanted to be the girl you kissed after the parties, you brought back to bed. the girl you danced until you dropped with at the yule ball. i wanted to share butterbeers with you in the three broomsticks." you say softly.
sirius began to speak, but you put up a hand to pause him. "before you say anything, if you don't feel the same, none of this ever happened. i never confessed, we never had this conversation, and you never got that box of chocolates."
sirius shook his head smiling, in disbelief. "y/n, all these years, i've asked these different girls, random girls throughout hogwarts, all because i thought the one i really wanted, wouldn't want me. the one i've really wanted all along is you." he stood up and walked towards the book case, a smirk across his face.
thank god it was dark enough in the dorm, he couldn't see how much you were blushing. his two hands took yours in his and pinned you up against your dorm wall, pressing his lips passionately against yours.
"we could've done this a lot sooner, black." you mumble into his lips.
"yeah, you're telling me." he chuckles, continuing to pull you into a deep kiss.
