                    Lily’s POV
The Northern Kingdom was cold, the kind of cold that seeped into your bones and refused to leave. But there was no snow, just an endless, biting chill. It was larger and far more luxurious than anything I’d ever seen, a kingdom of power and dominance, serving as the central hub where werewolves and humans coexisted under the iron rule of the Alpha King.
I moved quietly through the forest, keeping to the shadows, my heart hammering in my chest. The trees here felt different, their twisted branches looming over me like silent sentinels. I had no idea where I was going, but something kept pulling me forward, a strange sense of unease prickling at the back of my neck.
Then I saw it.
A pit, freshly dug in the earth, surrounded by men clad in dark armor. My breath hitched as I realized what they were doing. Bodies—eleven of them—were being lowered into the ground. Women, children, omegas… their lifeless forms told a story of suffering and betrayal. My stomach turned, and I pressed a hand to my mouth to stifle a gasp.
The men worked quickly, their movements practiced and efficient. They muttered among themselves, their voices low but distinct enough for me to catch snippets. They kept mentioning him—the Alpha King. It didn’t take long to piece it together. This was his doing.
A wave of nausea washed over me, but I couldn’t look away. I knew I shouldn’t have been there, shouldn’t have seen this, but my feet felt rooted to the ground.
And then it happened.
One of them froze, his head snapping up as his nostrils flared.
“Someone’s here,” he growled, his eyes glowing faintly in the dim light.
Panic surged through me as their heads turned in unison, their gazes locking onto the shadows where I stood. My heart leaped into my throat as I tried to back away, but it was too late.
“A human,” one of them snarled, his lips curling back to reveal sharp teeth.
“She saw everything,” another spat, his voice heavy with disdain.
Before I could even think to run, one of them raised a hand to his temple, his expression going blank. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what he was doing—mind-linking.
A shiver ran down my spine as I imagined what he was saying. Moments later, his expression hardened, and he turned to the others.
“The Alpha has ordered us to bring her to the palace,” he announced.
My blood ran cold. The Alpha King. They were taking me to him.
I didn’t have a choice. Two of them grabbed me, their grips like iron as they my hands with rough ropes. I struggled, but it was useless. Their strength was inhuman, their expressions cold and unyielding.
The journey to the palace was a blur of fear and adrenaline. The forest seemed darker, more oppressive, as they dragged me through it. When we finally emerged, the sight before me took my breath away.
The palace loomed like a monster in the night, its massive stone walls and towering spires exuding an air of menace. It was beautiful in a haunting way, its grandeur a stark contrast to the horrors I had just witnessed.
The guards shoved me forward, and I stumbled as we entered the grand hall. The air was heavy, almost suffocating, as if the palace itself was alive and watching.
At the far end of the hall, seated on a throne of dark wood and gold, was the Alpha King.
My breath caught as my eyes landed on him. He was every bit as intimidating as the stories had said—tall, powerful, and utterly commanding. His dark hair framed a face that was both regal and terrifying, his Green eyes sharp and calculating. And a scar that ran from his left eyebrows to below his left eye made his features more and more terrifying.
For a moment, he didn’t speak. He just stared at me, his expression unreadable. Then, something flickered in his gaze, something I couldn’t quite place.
“Leave us,” he commanded, his voice low and authoritative.
The guards hesitated, exchanging confused glances, but his next words left no room for argument.
“Now.”
They obeyed, leaving me alone with him. My heart pounded as I stood there, trembling under his gaze.
“What is your name?” he asked, his tone calm but laced with an undercurrent of danger.
“L-Lily,” I stammered, barely able to find my voice.
He tilted his head, studying me with an intensity that made my skin prickle. Then, to my surprise, his expression shifted. His eyes widened, just for a fraction of a second, before his features hardened again.
“You’ve seen too much,” he said, rising from his throne. He moved toward me, each step deliberate, predatory. “You shouldn’t have been here.”
“I didn’t mean to,” I blurted out, taking a step back. “I didn’t—”
“Silence,” he growled, his voice cutting through my words like a blade.
I froze, my heart racing as he stopped in front of me. His presence was overwhelming, his scent intoxicating in a way that made my head spin. For a moment, he just stood there, staring at me with an intensity that made me want to squirm.
“You’re…” he began, his voice softer, almost hesitant. But then he stopped, his jaw tightening as if he’d caught himself.
“Take her to the west wing,” he barked suddenly, stepping back.
“What?” I asked, confusion and fear swirling inside me.
“Lock her in a room,” he ordered, his voice cold and detached.
The guards returned, their expressions as confused as mine.
“But, Alpha—” one of them began, only to be silenced by a sharp glare.
“Do it,” he snapped, his tone brooking no argument.
They obeyed, grabbing me once again and dragging me out of the hall.
As they led me through the palace, my mind raced. Why hadn’t he killed me? He was the Alpha King, a man known for his ruthlessness. Trespassing in his territory and witnessing what I had should have been a death sentence.
Whispers followed us as we passed by others in the palace, their curious and suspicious gazes burning into me.
“Why is she still alive?” someone murmured.
“Who is she?” another asked.
I didn’t have any answers. All I knew was that my life had just changed forever—and not in a way I could have ever anticipated.
