Alpha Valen’s POV
I stood in silence, my arms crossed as I watched Julia drag Jessy into another room, her movements sharp with frustration. I pinched the bridge if my nose, this human of mine is a difficult one and I love it!
My mate was fiery, strong-willed. It would’ve amused me if not for the weight of what was coming.
A low knock sounded at the door before Ryker entered. He bowed quickly before stepping forward, his face set in a grim expression.
“Alpha,” he said, voice tight. “I have news.”
I turned to him fully, already sensing it wasn’t good. “Speak.”
Ryker handed me a document, thick with reports. “I dug deeper into the attack at Full Moon College. The rogues… They weren’t acting alone.” His jaw clenched. “They were backed by the Alpha King.”
My grip on the file tightened. Damon, Of course, it was him.
“I suspected as much,” I muttered, flipping through the pages. “But why? What does he gain from this? After killing my dad hasn't he had enough?”
Ryker’s eyes darkened. “That’s not all.” He hesitated, then sighed. “He’s coming here, Alpha. Today.”
I snapped my gaze up. “What?”
“He’ll be here before sunset. He’s not just visiting you—he’s addressing the pack too.”
A low growl built in my throat. Damon was bold, I’d give him that. To march into my territory, uninvited, and speak to my people? This wasn’t just a power move. It was an insult.
“He’s coming under the pretense of concern,” Ryker continued. “He wants to ‘offer his support’ after the attack. But in reality…” He hesitated.
“He’s here to mock me,” I finished, my voice dangerously low.
Ryker nodded. “He’ll make it seem like you failed. That you’re weak for letting rogues infiltrate your land.” His lips pressed into a thin line. “He’s playing a game, Alpha. And the entire kingdom will be watching.”
I exhaled slowly, forcing down the surge of anger threatening to explode. This wasn’t just about me—it was about my pack. About Julia. Damon’s interest in her and my territory wasn’t a coincidence.
He wanted to test me. To push me, Fine Let him try.
The sun was beginning to set when the Alpha King’s convoy rolled into the heart of my pack. His warriors marched ahead, their presence a silent threat.
Damon himself rode in a sleek black car, his golden armor gleaming as he stepped out with slow, deliberate movements. His eyes swept the gathered wolves and humans before settling on me.
His lips curved into a knowing smirk.
“Alpha Valen,” he greeted smoothly, voice rich with false warmth. “It’s good to see you.”
I didn’t bow. I didn’t smile. I met his gaze, unwavering. “Alpha King Damon.”
A flicker of amusement passed through his features before he turned to address my people.
“My fellow wolves and... humans,” he began, his voice carrying effortlessly over the crowd. “I come to you today not as a king, but as a concerned ally.” He sighed, shaking his head dramatically. “The attack on Full Moon College was a tragedy, one that should never have happened.”
Murmurs spread through the crowd.
Damon continued. “We must ask ourselves… how could this happen?” His gaze flickered to me for the briefest moment. “How could rogues, those filthy, mindless creatures, breach the lands of a powerful Alpha?”
A tense silence followed.
The insult was subtle, wrapped in concern, but the meaning was clear.
I felt Julia shift beside me, her unease palpable.
Damon smiled, feigning sadness. “But fear not. As your King, I will ensure such weakness is never seen again.”
My wolf bristled at the word. Weakness.
This bastard.
I clenched my fists, but I wouldn’t react—not yet. That’s what he wanted. He wanted to rattle me in front of my people.
I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction.
He turned back to me, that same smirk lingering. “Alpha Valen, I trust you’re taking measures to prevent another… unfortunate event?”
I held his gaze, my voice calm yet laced with steel. “I don’t need to remind you, Damon, that my pack is strong. We handle our problems without interference.”
A flicker of something dark passed through his eyes before he chuckled. “Of course, of course. I would expect nothing less from you. You are just like your dad. He was a brave leader.”
I let out a growl , trying to suppress my wolf, my eyes turning flashes of Gold.
Damon turned back to the crowd. “In light of these events, I invite Alpha Valen of the southern pack and other alphas from the East and West packs together with their mates to a gathering at the Northern kingdom. A meeting of power, unity…” His gaze flickered briefly to Julia. “And discussion of the future.”
Julia stiffened beside me. knew what this was, A trap.
And I had no choice but to accept. To see the root cause if this game.
Hours later, we sat in the grand hall, a long table filled with various delicacies . I sat at the head , Julia on my right and Jessy besides her, Aiden and my beta, Ryker on the left, and the Alpha king on the furthest end. The maidens lined up neatly by the walls . The room was tense, filled with power plays and unspoken threats.
Damon swirled his wine, his gaze drifting lazily to me. “Valen, I must say, you’ve made quite an impression.”
I arched a brow. “Oh?”
He smirked. “A human Luna. How… unique.”
Julia tensed beside me, but instead of shrinking under his gaze like he probably expected, she leaned forward, resting her arms on the table.
“You say ‘human’ like it’s an insult, your majesty.” she said, her voice calm but sharp. “And yet, here I sit, untouched, unbroken. Strange, isn’t it? For someone so ‘weak’ to hold an Alpha’s mark and seat?”
The room went silent.
Damon’s eyes darkened, amusement flickering with something colder. “You speak boldly for someone who doesn’t understand our world.”
Julia tilted her head. “And you assume too much for someone who doesn’t know me.” She gave him a slow, pointed smile. “Tell me, Your Majesty, is this your way of compensating for something? Tearing others down to make yourself feel bigger?”
Damon’s jaw ticked, Anger raging from the surface but quickly hiding it, chuckling. “You really have a bad assumption of me, Luna? You certainly have fire. And fires are easy to put out” His gaze flickered to me. “I wonder, Valen, is it exhausting, constantly keeping her in line?”
I smirked. “Why would I? I happen to like her exactly as she is. An eternal fire that seems easy to be extinguished but actually and illusion.”
Julia leaned back, satisfied. “Glad we cleared that up.”
Damon’s expression smoothed over, but I could see it—the irritation beneath the surface.
This wasn’t the reaction he wanted.
And I loved every second of it.
