                    Auren POV
Lucien hurried out of the room and into the corridor, holding my hand, his expression thunderous. I had to practically jog with him as we walked out of the hospital. Just as we reached the exit, a tall man came hurrying toward us. “Mr. Vaslof!” he said loudly.
Lucien stopped with me and narrowed his eyes on him. “Yes?”
The man was breathless and panting as he came to stand in front of us. “I’m Dean of the Hospital, Dr. Robert Brown.”
“I know who you are,” Lucien replied.
Robert licked his lips as he glanced at me. “I’m sorry for how Dr. Sheila treated you. She—”
Lucien put his hands up. “It’s not me who you should apologize to. You have to apologize to my wife.”
Robert didn’t look at me. He looked down at me. Like apologizing to me was way below his status. He swallowed, wondering how he could stoop to my level.
Lucien continued to watch Robert like a hawk as he caressed my hand in his grip. And then in a surprising gesture, he lifted his hand to his lips and kissed it, closing his eyes as took a deep breath in.
My breath lodged in my throat as my heart somersaulted. His gesture was a bold declaration that no one had the right to see me in a derogatory way.
Pride and admiration warred inside my chest. No one had given me so much respect all my life. His gesture left with so much warmth that it spread all across my body. And with those traitorous tingles that threatened to make me squeal in delight. What was happening to me? Lucien elicited many inexplicable foreign feelings inside me. I felt like a putty in his touch.
Lucien POV
When I opened my eyes, I couldn’t help but look at her quivering lips. All I wanted was to kiss her, claim her right here, right now. Her touch lingered on my lips, its effect shooting straight to my cock. Kissing her here and there wasn't enough. I really had to mark her. No, I really had to claim her. This way I was torturing my soul.
I don’t know how long we stared into each other’s eyes, but it took all my power to tear my gaze from her and return to Robert.
Dr. Robert looked at my wife, his eyes slightly wide. “I’m really sorry, Mrs. Vaslof,” he apologized. “Dr. Sheila is also very sorry. She didn’t mean to be discourteous. It was just that—” He pursed his lips, not knowing what else to say.
She swallowed, wondering if she could ever answer back to a man like Dr. Robert Brown. But I squeezed her hand to assure her that I had her back. She took a deep breath in, like my energy into her seeped and suddenly she was bolder. Much to my delight.
“Dr. Brown,” she started. “Though I don’t know why you should apologize in place of Dr. Sheila, she should have been more respectful and attentive. If this is how she is with all the patients, then God help your patients. The advice that she gave me was nothing unique. She handed me papers that she had downloaded from the Internet. Now I am wondering if she passed her medical exams or not.”
Robert’s blood drained from his face. “Dr. Sheila is a g-good nutritionist,” he rasped.
She shrugged. “And yet that’s the advice she gave me. I’m sorry, but unless you show improvement in medical services at this hospital, I don’t think we should further extend the donations. She wasted our precious time, made me feel unimportant, and—” Auren glanced at me from under her thick eyelashes, and a blush crept on her cheeks.
Was she going to say that Sheila flirted with me? My wolf loved as he waited for her to say that she was jealous. But Auren stopped. Why wasn't she jealous? Both me and Remus deflated.
Then she added, “Unless you favor Dr. Sheila, I don’t see any reason for you to not sack her.”
Yes! That was like my true Luna. She spoke like someone in command, someone who knew the world was at her command. And I would make sure it stayed that way for her. She talked like she belonged to an alpha bloodline that ruled for centuries. She sounded like a queen. My queen. And at that time, I think I imagined her aura spilling out of her. Because she shone. I wanted to wrap her in my arms and kiss her senseless.
Dr. Robert’s eyes widened in complete surprise. He wasn't expecting that a timid girl like her could give him such a bold reply. Licking his dry lips, he said, “I will make sure that things change here, Mrs. Vaslof.”
Auren nodded tightly. “Very well, then. We’d like to leave.” Saying that, she tugged me out of the hospital and stopped only once she reached our car.
I was really impressed by the way she put Robert in his place. She threatened him that we might withdraw our charity if he didn’t work better on improving the work ethics of the place. She used her authority sincerely in a just manner. Remus’s pride was spilling over to me and he was basking under it. ‘I knew our mate was best.’
Once she reached our car, she leaned against it, trying to calm down her shallow breaths.
I stood in front of her, holding her waist. Leaning on to her, I said, “You did great out there.”
“I did?”
“Yes!” I replied. She wasn't just great, she was stunning, dazzling, mesmerizing. I was the luckiest wolf in this world to have a mate like her.
The only way to reassure her and to calm my excitement was to kiss her. So I pressed my lips to hers and she moaned against me. Her fingers slipped in my hair which she clutched tightly. My chest rumbled with need, and I forced her to open her lips. I delved my tongue inside and explored her mouth like I was doing it for the first time, like I was starved of her. She didn’t move away from me, which meant that she was as needy as me. My fangs must have slipped out because she yelped when they grazed her. Immediately, I removed my mouth from hers and realized that blood had smeared on her lips. Horrified, I cursed myself internally for being so impatient with her.
“I—” I wiped her blood with my sleeve. “This is—”
She grinned. “It’s nothing,” she said and smiled.
Goddess. Her lips were swollen because of my rough kiss. She looked so sexy that I think if I didn’t claim her right now, I could die.
“Let’s go!” I murmured, trying to rein in my dangerous thoughts. As I sped out of the human town, I had one more place to visit. But for that I had elaborate plans. So I stopped at a diner where I ordered a few dishes, got them packed and hurried to the car where my wife was waiting for me.
As I curved the car toward a road that didn’t lead to my pack, she asked, “Where are we going?”
“Surprise,” I said, smiling. In her presence, I felt like a reckless teenager again, and I had no intention of holding back my feelings now.
