Auren POV
My lips lifted into a frown. “Julie’s uncle?” I was confused as to why he wanted to meet me. “Did he say why he wants to meet me?” I asked the maid.
She shook her head. “He is saying that he will speak with you only.”
I took a deep sigh and said, “Ask him to wait.” The maid left and I took my time to understand the situation. He must have come to speak about Julie’s parents who were in the dungeons. When I arrived in the small parlor adjacent to the main hall, I found him pacing the room.
With a tall, wiry frame, he had a harsh look about himself. The moment he saw me, he bowed to me. “Luna Auren, thank you so much for seeing me. I am Gary.”
Seeing him made me recall how Julie betrayed me. That filled my heart with rage. Instead of wasting time, I said curtly, “If you’ve come to talk about Julie and her parents, then I can't help you. You have to talk to Alpha Lucien about it.” I stepped closer, feeling like something inside me was trying to surface as rage boiled in my body. “And after what Julie did to me, you can't expect me to sympathize with her,” I almost hissed.
Sweat beads formed on Gary’s forehead. He dropped on his knees, which took me by surprise. Clasping his hands in front of him, he said, “Luna Auren, I know what Julie did was horrible. I heard that she led you into an ambush, but how can you blame her parents for it? Her mother and father are innocent. They didn’t know what she was doing. And right now, as we speak, Alpha Lucien has challenged her father in the arena.”
“What?” I asked, bewildered.
He nodded vehemently, almost on the verge of crying. “Alpha has challenged her father to fight him, saying that he would give him a chance to live. But we all know that Alpha Lucien is so strong that Julie’s father doesn’t have a chance against him. It’s Alpha’s way of hunting his prey, toying with it, before he kills it!”
My eyes widened and my mouth dropped to the floor. Lucien was really cruel when it mattered. I collected my mouth, not knowing what to do. Had he put them in the dungeons, he would have tortured them. But now what he was doing—it was worse than torture. He was so furious by the whole act that his wolf wanted to punish everyone involved in it, even if remotely.
“Please, Luna Auren,” Gary pleaded, snapping me out of my thoughts. “Please, help us. Julie was wrong, but you can't punish her parents because of her. Alpha Lucien is not listening to any of us. It looks like no one can reason with him. We can't reach him. Only you can help us.”
His words brought a shudder down my body. “Is that so?”
Gary nodded. “Yes,” he rasped. “Help us, Luna.”
I pursed my lips. “Okay!” I said. Then I rushed toward the arena with my guards following me. Gary was also with me. When I reached there, I was stunned to see that Lucien was fighting with a wolf younger than him. The wolf was literally shivering and unable to stand the blows from Lucien.
“Mercy…” the wolf murmured through his dislocated jaw. He sat on the ground in a pool of blood.
There was a sea of wolves all around, watching Lucien fighting the wolf. I could feel Lucien’s rage. It was so much that I almost stumbled at the sensation. How could I feel his emotions so well? But then wasn't I feeling them all the while?
“Oh, goddess!” Gary rasped.
I whipped my head to look at him and saw pure panic.
Suddenly, there was a booming roar that shook the windows and doors of the arena. My breath hitched.
“I think—I think Alpha Lucien is going to kill Julie’s father.”
Shit. If that happened, I was sure his people were never going to forgive me. He was killing her father because of an omega like me, a breeder, who had to fulfil her duty. And who hadn’t even started on that mission. They could start a mutiny against him.
My heart ached at the thought of him getting into such colossal trouble. I had to stop him anyhow. I ran across the crowd, pushing them away. Some made way for me, while some had to be pushed. When I reached there, I saw a gigantic black wolf. And my breath lodged in my throat. I had never ever seen such a giant wolf in my life. His teeth and mouth were covered in blood. There was a pin drop silence as wolves watched. No one dared to even come close to the ring for the fear that Remus would kill them in an instant.
My breath hitched when I saw Remus in his full glory for the first time. Hewas not beautiful. He was magnificent. Stunning. Mesmerizing. And over six feet tall with a muscular body that would shame a god.
“Lucien!” I shouted as I jumped into the ring.
Remus whipped his head to look at me, his eyes flashing golden and a dangerous growl emanating from his chest.
I should have been scared of him, but all I felt was this compulsion to touch him. He opened his jaw, baring his fangs at me as if warning me to not come near him. But I stepped closer.
“Please, Remus,” I said in a low, cautious voice. “Leave him…”
Remus stared at me with his golden eyes and a few seconds later, took a step back. In no time, Gary rushed into the ring and dragged his brother away. But the guards surrounded him immediately and took him back to the dungeons.
And now I was left alone with a gigantic, baddest and merciless wolf in the ring. I dropped on my knees, my heart racing like a drummer gone mad with drums. But I wasn't scared of Remus. I was scared for Lucien. Remus stepped back with a low growl that came out as a warning. He circled the ring as he glared at every person in the arena, warning them, challenging them to come near me, unless they wanted to be ripped apart.
