                    JAEHYUN
The roof was still, with only the occasional rustling of the wind. It wasn't even particularly cold, but I wrapped my blazer tighter around me anyway.
I huffed dramatically. "I'm going to freeze to death."
No reaction.
I looked at her. She was sitting by the edge, legs crossed, staring off into space somewhere beyond the school grounds. Not even remotely bothered by my presence.
"Hey," I attempted again, taking a step forward. "If you keep ignoring me, I might just end up turning into ice and haunt this rooftop for eternity."
This time, she shifted-ever so slightly. With a languid blink, she swiveled her head in my direction and murmured, "If you're cold, then go inside."
I laughed. "Wow. No sympathy whatsoever?"
She didn't respond, merely gazed out at the horizon.
I leaned against the railing next to her, putting my arms on the metal bar. "You know, when students come up here by themselves, it's always one of two things."
She didn't respond, so I went on.
"They're either cutting class..." I waited for dramatic effect, then said, "Or plotting something crazy."
Her fingers did a little flutter, but her expression was still nothing.
I shifted my head. "You wouldn't do something crazy, would you?"
She finally met my gaze, her eyes not wavering. "Why would I?"
I held my breath, but she didn't glance away.
Then, in the same quiet voice, she continued, "I still have a lot to do."
Somehow, that response made my heart ache.
I was ready to ask her what she meant, but something in her face warned me she wouldn't tell me if I did.
Instead, I smiled. "So, playing hooky, then?"
She blew out through her nose-possibly a soft laughter, possibly simply a sigh. "Shouldn't you be in there as well?"
"Shouldn't you?" I retorted.
She shook her head very minimally, the way one shakes their head while they're enduring someone. Possibly I was being that person. But for some reason, she hadn't asked me to get out yet.
And for some reason, I didn't particularly feel like getting out.
I drummed on the railing. "Guess we're both getting in trouble then?"
