                    LARISA’S POV
Life outside the pack wasn’t easy.
Although I had enough money and resources to fend for myself, it wasn’t the same as being part of a pack and enjoying the perks of being a Luna.
The worst part of this life was waiting to get news or hear from my aide. If I was still in the pack, I wouldn’t have to wait this long. My aide and I have planned how he would break my parents out of prison and how he would help them get to me after hiding them in our home for a few nights because no one would think to search the place.
However, I still haven’t seen my parents or heard from my aide even though the plan was supposed to kick off two nights ago. Yet I stayed in position.
“They will soon be here,” I assured myself as I opened the door of the tenth storage house I have been to since I left Crescent Pack.
I made sure I didn’t stay in a a place for too long because I didn’t want to be found by Lucas’s men who I knew were still searching everywhere for me. It was a good thing that some of my father’s property outside the pack wasn’t documented and known by the pack. The cool air of the evening teased my nostrils as I sucked in a sharp breath, using that to reduce the lava of anger bubbling in the depth of my mind. I could hear the birds chirping melodiously but that didn’t lessen the eagerness consuming me.
I just needed to know that my parents were safe.
I decided to dial my aide’s number again, hoping that his line would be reachable this time. I have been trying to reach him since I woke up earlier today but none of the calls went through to him.
“Phew!” I exhaled when I heard the ringing sound from my cell phone speaker. The second he answered the call, I snapped, What the fuck, man. I have been worried.”
I wasn’t lying. I have been worried sick about my parents and I didn’t hesitate to ask about their whereabouts after lashing out. “Where are they? Why are they not here yet?”
Silence engulfs my eardrums, with zero words coming from the other side. “Say something. You’re scaring-”
“I’m sorry, Lorraine.” His response came in the form of an apology and I could feel my lungs crashing. “I f-failed you. Ifa-failed
”
“What the hell are you stuttering about? Just talk to me!” I cried out loud, forgetting that I was in hiding.
“Lucas found them, Lorraine and he just publicly executed your dad. His body is in one of the cells and your mom-” He explained everything to me and my world spun.
He killed my dad…
I found it difficult to breathe as those words resonated in my head. My mom is now a prisoner… all because of me.
No!
This isn’t my fault.
It’s Lucas’s fault. He was the one who had my dad killed and my mom demoted to a slave just because of that bitch! Lucas and Fiona. My fingers were close to falling off due to how tight I clenched them against my palm.
I could feel the slight pain my nails were causing as they dug into my palms but how could that even compare to losing my dad?
Tears leaked out of my eyes and I sobbed loudly, once again forgetting that I was supposed to be quiet so I wouldn’t attract unwanted attention to myself.
“He is keeping Helen alive so you can come out and I don’t think I can get her out of here, Lorraine-”
“Then what exactly can you do? You have been nothing but useless ever since I left!” I cried. I sure as hell wouldn’t give up now because even if I did, Lucas would not spare my mom. He’d still kill her.
“I know, Lorraine, and I’m sorry.” He uttered. “I failed you but I just discovered how to give you back control.”
“Will this plan of yours bring my mom to me and bring my dad back to life?” I sobbed harder.
I wasn’t interested in listening to any silly plans at the moment. I should be grieving but my interest was sparked when he announced confidently, “Bring Nolan back to life? No, but you can make demands if we are able to capture Fiona and the kids.”
“How is that supposed to work?” I snapped.
Gosh, I was tired of holding people captive. How I wished I could outrightly kill Lucas and his family…
“They are traveling back to Black Fur tomorrow and the Alpha just put me in charge of their well-being.” My aide announced to me. “I can take a few of our captured men, disguise them, and have them leave the pack with me. We can hold them hostile and demand your parents’ release in exchange for theirs-”
“That plan will fail. Raoden isn’t stupid enough to fall for a silly disguise, Jake.” I blurted, using his name for the first time in a long time.
“Oh, he’s stupid enough.” Jake countered. “If he is stupid to assume that the person helping you is Andrew, beat him to a pulp, and lock him up while giving me full authority over his warriors, then he is stupid.”
Jake told me about Lucas’s obvious mistake and his current state of mind as a result of what he believed was Andrew’s betrayal and the forthcoming departure of Fiona and the kids. He concluded by saying, “We can take advantage of this situation and gain control of the wheels again.”
“Do it and bring them to me.” I agreed, understanding the kind of power I’d hold if Jake succeeded.
“I’m sorry about your parents and I promise not to let you down. Not anymore.” Jake gave me his word.
Despite his past failures, I decided to give him another chance. Lucas was going down and I’ll use death to tear his family apart.
At least that was my intention as I ended the call with Jake and walked back to the storage house to mourn my dad but my will was taken from me when I felt a sharp sting in the back of my neck. I stopped dead in my tracks, my hand reaching for the spot and I found a small needle buried in my skin.
Clearly, I have been discovered.
And when my sight became blurry, I realized that I had been drugged as well.
My legs gave out and I collapsed, losing control over my nerves but before I lost consciousness, I heard footsteps and also heard someone barking orders.
“Send words to the Alpha. We’ve to warn him about her plans. Fiona and the twins are in danger.”
No. No. No.
Goddess no! This plan can’t fail.
I cried internally, completely frustrated but regardless, my mind succumbed to whatever they injected into my body and darkness was all I could see or think.
