                    ALPHA RAIDEN
My legs grew a mind of their own as I ran towards my pack’s prison. I was beating myself up for my foolishness but I still focused on running as fast as possible.
I was wrong.
I was fucking wrong and Andrew did tell me but my head was so up my ass that I didn’t care to listen. My emotions spiraled and now I had made a huge mistake. I broke the one man who would do anything to stand with me and make sure my back was protected.
How could I have assumed Andrew would stab me in the back?
“The thought of it hurt you and you were blinded by that feeling and the feeling of loss.” Lex whimpered within me, reminding me about the emptiness I felt within.
All these years, I thought I was empty without Fiona and a complete bond but I was just beginning to understand the real meaning of the word empty. I pushed my pain out of my mind as Alpha Clinton’s words echoed in my head, forcing me to run faster.
“I called your Beta yesterday because I got some news and I didn’t want to bother you due to the problems you are facing in your pack. However, I still wanted someone from your pack to know so when I can no longer handle the problem, you would be able to help or at least be prepared for what’s coming?” Alpha Clinton had explained to me.
I had to ask him, “What is this about? What’s coming?”
He answered, sighing, “I believe Black Fur Pack has initiated another war. They have been targetting small and remote packs and I won’t lie to you, many of those packs have been conquered and they are now under Alpha Tristan’s control. He is gaining more men and support forcefully. He clearly doesn’t want the news to spread but I get intel from every corner of the realms and from what I heard, he is targeting my pack at the moment because he knows you are busy with your issues and you won’t be able to help us here… not as fast as we would need anyway.”
“Tristan is planning to attack you and you didn’t tell me directly? You know how cruel he can be and my family just left my pack for his, Clinton!” I snapped, blaming Clinton without thinking twice.
But he retorted, “Don’t blame me for your mistake, Alpha Lucas. If you hadn’t locked your Beta up, I’m certain he would have found a way to prevent your family from going to the enemy’s land. Although, I do recall Alpha Tristan proposing to your ex-mate during the games. Perhaps she is in on his plan and-”
“She would never do that.” I countered fiercely. Fiona hated me but she’d never hurt innocent people.
“Are you sure about that? She has a lot to gain if Tristan wins this war and after living in his pack for almost six years, she must know. You shouldn’t let her get to Tristan not after she has spent many weeks in your pack. She could be going back to him with information that could destroy you and the current setting of our realm.” Alpha Clinton shared his concerns.
I thanked him for enlightening me but I didn’t take his warnings about Fiona to heart. She’d never do that. Even if she plans to attack me, it would be that- Me not my pack… unless my pack members were not any better to her when she was married to me.
But still, Fiona wouldn’t… right?
I shook my head, returning to the present as I entered the prison grounds, inhaling deeply so my nostrils could lead me to Andrew. I didn’t notice the empty cells on my way to Andrew neither did I notice that no guards were securing the place.
I got to Andrew’s cell and found the door unlocked. Although that caught my attention, I didn’t think twice about it because it gave me quick access to Andrew as I didn’t have to start looking for someone to give me the keys.
“Drew….” I called out to him, my voice breaking as memories of how I treated him yesterday flashed through my mind. “ Andrew?”
His eyes fluttered open, slowly and weakly. “A-alpha?” He spluttered, disbelief etched in every letter.
“It’s me, Drew. I’m so sorry.” I began with an apology, pulling his weak body into my arms. “I spoke with Alpha Clinton and he told me-”
“Y-you have to g-go a-after th-them…” Andrew cut me off, fisting my shirt to get my attention.
His voice was barely a whisper so I had to ask him, “After who? I should get you to the hospital and-”
“I’ll su-survive this but Fiona and th-the kids won’t survive J-jake’s plan,” Andrew said, his voice a little louder but he instantly began to cough uncontrollably.
Did I make him this weak? Yes, I beat Andrew up but he should have recovered to some extent. It was at this moment that I noticed the fresh bruises on Andrew’s body. They couldn’t have been from yesterday-
Andrew cut my thoughts short as he repeated, “J-jake’s plan…”
“Jake? What plan?” I asked, fear brewing in the depths of my stomach as I added another question, “Did Jake do this to you?” Andrew nodded, “Yes, he d-did but he plans to do much worse to Fiona and the kids as soon as he g-gets them to La-ris-a… He told me he was taking them to Lorraine. Th-they have been working together-”
Oh, goddess, No…
Andrew’s words were like sharp-edged ice as they hit my ears.
It’s Jake. All this while, he has been the snitch…
I entrusted my family’s safety in the hands of a snitch…
“He took Lorraine’s men with him and distracted our own men. No one but the man driving Fiona and the kids is on our side.” Andrew said to me, telling me Jake planned to kill everyone in that car. “S-stop them, Lucas.”
But they were long gone…
“Some healers will be here for you soon. I’m sorry, Drew.” I said to my Beta before dashing out of the prison ground, finally realizing the odd atmosphere.
Lex was growling within me as my legs carried me to my garage. I needed a car to catch up with them but Jake thought ahead… He had flattened all the tires of the remaining three cars in my garage.
That son of a bitch!
Anger, fear, hate, and determination mixed to become one emotion. “Take charge,” I said to my wolf, and like he had been waiting for that command, Lex dominated me as I shifted into his form.
My wolf snarled when his paws hit the floor but that was the last time I felt them on earth. Lex practically flew through the forest and I prayed I wouldn’t be too late…
