I screamed in hopes that I would be able to get the other driver to use the dam brakes if they were still working.
But my scream was cut short when the third car hit ours with a loud bang that had the car spinning so fast. Before I could jump out of the way, I saw my driver’s head hit the steering wheel and window as the car tumbled, His blood tinted the windscreen and my heart cried for him but I still had to jump to protect my kids.
I jumped, making the mistake of backing the edge of the hill but that wasn’t the end. I mean, right there and then, the third car did a quick reverse and I almost let out a sigh of relief, thinking the car’s driver was finally back to his scenes.
However, he drove straight and fast into our car again.
I couldn’t escape the quick impact as the car tumbled again, slamming into me. The impact knocked air out of my lungs but somehow, my hold on my babies was stronger than ever.
“Mom…”
“Mama…”
The twins screamed simultaneously. I didn’t realize why they did until I felt myself falling back first. It was at this point that I realized my mistake but I didn’t fail to see the crushed car falling as well…. Right above me and yes, my kids were still in my
arms.
I thought I heard someone else screaming, “No…. I asked you to knock them out not knock them off the damn road. Get your asses down there and find them. We need to get them to Lorraine alive or we won’t be alive for much longer.”
Lorraine?
Wasn’t that Jake’s voice?
So this was a planned accident?
An angry scream broke through the area.
But I couldn’t focus on that angry scream nor could my brain process it. I thought of how to avoid a situation where the car would crush my kids and me as my back came in contact with solid but sloppy ground. I bit my cheeks, swallowing the pain that sliced through my body as I quickly forced my body to roll out of the car’s way.
That action meant that both Katie and Kyle would feel pain as their bodies rolled downhill with my arms tightly wrapped around them but It was better than getting crushed under the weight of a car.
Plus, my arms took most of the hit.
But that wasn’t enough to put my mind at ease-
My mind went blank after that thought crossed my mind.
“Relia…” Inara called out to me but a splitting headache caused me to groan as my rolling body came to a halt beside a giant rock… right after my head came in contact with it.
Hard, concussion-worthy kind of contact.
“Argh.” I cried again but I couldn’t hear myself.
My hands were stinging and the rest of my body was no different but the back of my head hurt the most.
“Mama.” I heard Kyle’s voice before he and Katie twisted in my arms.
Before I could force my tied tongue to function, I heard another loud crash. I didn’t have to be told that the car had just crashed very close to where I was lying. Unlike the driver who didn’t seem to make it out of the car, my kids and I were safe. My sight was blurry and my head was banging but at least-
“Not so fast, Relia. I perceive fuel. It’s leaking out of the car.” Inara called my attention to the smell of petroleum.
Knowing what would happen next, I tried to push myself off the ground but my left leg was heavy, pain shooting off my spine.
“It’s broken,” Inara informed me. “I’ll try to heal you.”
But we didn’t have the time.
That car could explode any second from now.
“Focus on my sight. I can see well enough and I need my sight to guide the kids to a safe place.” I begged my wolf.
Inara didn’t respond but my foggy sight became less foggy by the second. My skull stung. Hot pain digging its sharp claws into me. As soon as I could see our surroundings clearly, I let out, “Run towards the tree on the other side, babies.”
“Y-you have to come, Mom.” Katie sniffled back tears, her eyes on my body.
“I’m right behind you but I need you both to run as fast as you can. Hold each other and don’t look back.” I maintained a straight face.
Their heads bobbed and they began to run.
I on the other hand knew I wouldn’t make it if I tried to run on one weak leg while the other was broken. So I crawled behind them, trying not to wince as the rocks pressed against my knees.
“Keep going…” I said to my kids.
I couldn’t even shout but they heard me and I was behind them like I promised.
Not close enough but behind them… However, when the explosion finally happened, I felt the hotness of the flame all over my back and black dots covered my sight.
Goddess knew that I tried to fight it but darkness dragged me mercilessly to its lair even though Lorraine’s men could be looking for us or was it Jake’s men?…
“Heal me fast, Ina… Please…” I whimpered to my wolf, putting my trust in her.
