I COULDN’T SAVE THEM!
I tried. I ran. I caught up with them but not in time to save my family…
Unfortunately, I was in time to witness the earthshattering explosion and that took my heart out. I lost all senses as my eyes reflected the tall flame and my brain registered the fact that I was too late…
“He didn’t plan to kill them here. They’ve to be here somewhere.” Lex cried, agony taking over us both as I scanned the area through my wolf’s eyes in search of Fiona and the kids.
If only I could sense them. If only I feel some sort of connection to them….
I had no links with the kids and the only link I had with Fiona had been severed about an hour ago. Despite being in my wolf’s form, I still couldn’t get a whiff of them… not even with the smoke that had filled the air.
Fuck! Not knowing what could have happened to them or where they could be was killing me.
However, Jake didn’t seem to share in my worries. In fact, he didn’t even notice that I was standing behind him and the other men. They were all staring down the hill as if they found the explosion amusing-
“Fuck! We can’t let them die. Get down there and find them now!” Jake eventually voiced his worry.
He cared more about getting my family to Lorraine than protecting them like I ordered him as his goddamn Alpha! My family was down there… In a hellhole that just went kaboom yet none of them felt remorseful.
My family could be dead-
No! They are fine.
They have to be fine-
“How could they have survived the fall and the explosion, Gamma Jake? We can’t even see anyone from here.” One of the men blurted without a single ounce of emotion. “We won’t survive going down there. The smoke, the flame, and the path would kill us.”
Another one of them stated, “You are correct. We can make the fool of an Alpha believe that we have them and still achieve our goal. We don’t have to risk our lives-”
“That. Fool. Of. An. Alpha. Is. Standing. Right. Here.” I gritted, punctuating each word with a growl but I knew they couldn’t hear me.
However, they heard Lex growling ferociously.
And that caught them by surprise and a few of them staggered as a result but only one of them lost balance completely, falling into the angry flame, his horrifying scream tickling my ears like music. That was one way to die but that wasn’t good enough for me… not after what they have done.
Jake’s eyes widened as he stuttered, “A-alpha Lucas….”
“Shock to see me?” I gritted within my wolf, my blood boiling hot as Lex stepped out of the shadows, taking slow and calculated steps toward the remaining seven men.
But again, all they heard was a deep angry growl from Lex who was baring his teeth at them. Of course, Jake recognized my wolf immediately but his shock didn’t last beyond three seconds and he wore a smirk as he said, “You are out here… all alone
…
Seven to one but they didn’t have a chance. I wasn’t even worried about that. I was more concerned about the time I would be wasting on them. I could use that time to get down the hill and find my loved ones.
But clearly, I’d have to go through these bastards before I can move forward.
I tried to shift back to my human form even though I had ripped my clothes when I shifted. If I had to fight naked, I would. However, Lex snarled, “You can’t have all the fun. I want to send those bastards to hell myself.”
Even better. Lex was more ruthless and he had an advantage as he stood tall. Ready to spill blood.
Before Jake could communicate with his men on how to gain some ground, Lex sprung over, targeting four of Jake’s men as they stupidly shifted into their puny excuse of wolves. They should have known better but Lex didn’t let them realize their mistakes. He went through them quickly, taking one wolf by its neck and snapping his canines over it without mercy before tossing its body against a tree.
The remaining three attacked at once and Lex did the same, his forepaws lifting off the ground and sinking his sharp elongated claws into their bellies before they could even reach us. Lex dragged his crawls within their skin, tearing them before ripping their intestine out, leaving the last one to try its best to hurt us while he took the lives of its friends.
“Filthy bastards,” Lex growled, and his words bounced off my mind as he threw the two lifeless wolves aimlessly. “Now what do I do with this one?” My wolf asked rhetorically, gazing at the last wolf while Jake and the remaining two men got ready to join the fight.
“Whatever you do, do it fast. The remaining three are mine.” I said to Lex and he understood the assignment.
Lex pinned the last wolf to the rocky floor of the ground, holding its body down with his paws and resting his weight on the wolf. The wolf let out a painful yelp that soon became a full-blown cry for help when Lex began to stomp on its body, breaking bones and not stopping until its gut and other organs were on with the ground.
“You had to choose the messy way?” I gritted but I quickly aligned my senses with my wolves as the remaining two dags raced towards us, leaving just Jake behind.
Before they could reach me, I shifted into my human form, grabbing the two fools by the neck within a twinkle of an eye. I also didn’t plan to waste any time on them so I tightened my hold on their neck until I heard the pop, followed by blood.
Their eyes also popped out of their sockets, blood staining my hand before I let go of their lifeless body.
“How are you any less messy?” Lex seethed as we both glared at Jake through my eyes.
Alone and less confident, Jake got into his well-known fighting stance, and goddess do I plan to play with him… He’ll beg for death but I wouldn’t give him that easily. He’ll try to kill himself but he’ll fail.
This one, I’ll make an example of and bring hell to him without sending him to the pit of fire.
Without wasting a single second, I made that Jake’s reality, tearing him apart bit after bit even though he was my best warrior. He did manage to land a few punches but it was just that- A few. I broke his wrists, dislocated his hips, and made sure he lived in a broken body.
I thought I would be pleased after that but when I realized I wouldn’t find my loved ones, I lived on in a broken body too.
