Fiona
With every second that passed, my mind came up with my questions but it all turned into a satisfying groan as my back came in contact with a cold yet warm body of water.
It was the perfect temperature yet it couldn’t be described as lukewarm.
“Where is this place?” I asked, relaxing into the perfect, comforting embrace of the water while staring at the roof of this bigger hut.
The foggy layer over my sight was beginning to slip away with every second I spent in the water. My senses which I couldn’t access before also came to life. I sensed Katie and Kyle in the room with me while other unfamiliar scents tickled my nostrils.
Mia Lu’s voice came again, “It’s called the purifying lake, Fiona.”
“You know my name?” I asked.
She chuckled, sitting on a stool beside the body of water, “I know more than enough about you, Fiona. We all do.”
My eyes shifted around the room and I noticed the figure of five other people. They all had something in common with Mia Lu – Their greyish-white hair and no, they were not as a result of old age.
Out of the five other people in the room, two seemed to be the same age as me and the remaining three appeared to be in their late thirties or thereabouts.
Mia Lu was the only older wolf in the room. I could tell from her wrinkled face and the wisdom her eyes seemed to carry. She was obviously an elder.
“And they are all white wolves.” Inara’s voice boomed in my head as she returned with full force.
Of course, Inara’s words shocked me to the core but I couldn’t stop myself from asking her, “What happened to us? How did we make it here?”
Here with white wolves? A part of me believed Inara was mistaken.
These people could have dyed their hair just to imitate the people of the dead pack.
Inara began to explain while my eyes took in every detail of the six strangers in the hut, “The explosion was bigger than we expected and I had to drain our energy to create a spiritual shield around us and the kids. Your body couldn’t handle it yet we had to do it. It’s the reason I was blocked out of your mind and your senses as well.”
“You mean to say I went back to being wolfless like I was before the birth of the kids triggered your appearance?” I asked my wolf despite knowing what her answer would be.
Inara responded, “Yes, Relia but this water has properties that I can’t explain and I don’t know how we got here.”
Of course, the water can only have unexplainable properties if these people are healers.
“Or white wolves.” Inara chimed with conviction.
At that moment, Mia Lu smiled at me, her words snapping me out of my thoughts, “I see your wolf has resurfaced. You are about to be reborn.”
Rather than ask her what she meant by I was about to be reborn, I blurted, the disbelief catching up with me as my heart raced, “You are white wolves.”
Maintaining her smile, Mia Lu nodded, “Yes, we are and you’d have been able to sense us the moment we found you if you weren’t spiritually drained. You were so empty, child. What have you been feeding yourself?”
“How is this possible?” I queried.
I thought I was the last living white wolf but all it took for me to find a pack of them was getting blasted by fire and almost dying-
“All your questions will be answered in due time but for now, let’s focus on your rebirth. You need to be cleansed and fed with energy. The lake is already cleansing you but the feeding-”
Rebirth. Feeding. Cleansing.
I was fucking lost but my kids seemed to fit right in as they bickered with the other five people. I zoned out on Mia Lu’s words until she caressed my face, tapping me out of my own mind. “I know this is a lot, child but you need to trust that we won’t hurt you. We just want to break the limitation that has been put on you and your wolf.”
“Limitation?” I muttered. “What limitation?”
Could Lorraine have hexed me? No, I would have sensed that right?
“I don’t know where you have been and the kind of life you have lived but you and your wolf have been manipulated. In fact, your wolf seemed to be blinded in some areas and I’m certain this must have affected you as it had affected the flow of your energy… the very essence of your existence as a white wolf.” Mia Lu explained but she only succeeded in messing up my already confused mind.
“What’s this about, Ina?” I sought out my wolf.
“I have no idea, Relia but we can trust. I feel at ease with them… Like I belong here.” Inara said to me.
That was exactly how I felt- at home.
One of the women who looked my age voiced, ruffling Katie’s hair as her gaze settled on my body, “She relates with Black Fur. It’s not surprising that her power and senses were subdued. Those selfish-”
“They are not selfish!” I stated sharply. “Those people saved me and kept me alive. My kids are here today because of them.”
I argued. How dare she? Just because she was a white wolf doesn’t mean she has the right to badmouth my family. She wasn’t my family.
“Easy, Fiona.” Mia Lu placed her hand on my shoulder. “Susanna is known for her bluntness and I know this might sound harsh, but she is right.”
The woman she called Susanna stepped closer to me. She crouched beside the body of water and stretched her hand out to me. She said, “Take my hand and I’ll show you everything.”
Goddess knew I hesitated but the second I looked into her eyes, I felt like she was my long-lost sister, her stormy blue eyes capturing mine. I took her hand and instantly I was sucked into a different reality where I saw everything… beginning with Tristan, six years ago.
