Fiona
I saw myself on the hospital bed and Tristan sitting beside me.
At first, I was confused because while I was seeing myself on the bed, I was also standing in the corner of the room, hand in hand with Susanna. The room was familiar. It was the same room where I saw and met Tristan properly for the first time…
The room where he told me that I had two babies instead of the one I was expecting.
Susanna muttered to me as if she could read my mind, “This is the past, Fiona. I brought you here so you can see for yourself. To be honest, you led us to this present moment.”
“But how? We were in the hut seconds ago and now I’m here?” I asked her, my voice barely a whisper as I feared that I would be heard by Tristan who stared at me with curiosity while I remained unconscious… well, the past version of me.
“You don’t have to whisper. They can’t hear us. This is just a replay of your past.” Susanna said to me, smiling brightly before she answered my question, glancing at our locked fingers, “Every white wolf has a special ability that is personal to them. Aside from my general abilities, I have the power to go down memory lane just by holding hands with the concerned individual. While this is your memory, I can also reveal events that your brain didn’t register as long as it’s part of your past and even though it’s draining, I travel to the present through this means. It’s how we know what’s going on in the real without leaving the hidden pack.”
Wow. That sounded amazing.
“Our bodies are still in the purifying hut but our souls are here… on a trip that would show you why this man can’t be trusted,” Susanna added.
Normally, I would have jumped to defend Tristan. I mean, this was the place he gave me a new and meaningful life. This was where our story began. However, I swallowed my argument and simply watched the scene closely.
Right before my eyes, Tristan pulled a syringe with dark liquid-like content from his pocket, and while he stared at it, an unfamiliar yet oddly familiar voice echoed within the room even though there was no one but Tristan and me there. “You don’t even know if that will work, Tris. It could kill her.”
Quickly, Susanna etched, “That’s his wolf.” I was stunned to know that I could listen to Tristan and his wolf’s mental conversations, “Nothing is hidden in the past as long as you are holding my hand, Fiona. Nothing.”
Before I could acknowledge Susanna’s words, Tristan answered his wolf, “I need her under my control. Her wolf will emerge soon and if I don’t find a way to limit their powers, I won’t be able to use her for my plans. White wolves are too powerful when they are let loose. I need to tame this one, Dolf.”
My jaw dropped but little did I know that this was only the tip of the iceberg.
His wolf responded, “I don’t like the idea of this, Tris. This woman needs help and you decided to help her. Why are you-‘
“The only reason I let her into my pack and not kill her on sight was because I saw her white hair. I knew it couldn’t be a coincidence. I’ll help her but she will help me out too. She is the key.” Tristan countered his wolf who seemed to be in a dilemma.
Tristan and his wolf argued some more and while I listened, tears trickled down my face. I didn’t realize I was being manipulated all this time. I thought he loved me. I thought he wanted me. I thought he helped me because he was a good person.
How could he?
“This concoction was made by my parents. A dose of it every month will keep her subdued and she will never doubt me because her wolf will develop an addiction to me.” Tristan muttered devilishly and for the first time, I saw who he really was under all his flawless facade. Tristan added, “Adding a bit of my blood and aura to the concoction dosage every month will tie her to me and keep her under my control.”
“What if this backfires?” Tristan’s wolf asked and I foolishly believed he was genuinely concerned about me. “You should have learned lessons from our parents’ failure.”
“She’s the key to unlocking my success and patience is the key to getting her. My plan is perfect. It won’t fail.” Tristan answered his wolf and without blinking twice, he injected me. “The charade starts now.”
And that was when I regained consciousness in a strange room, with a strange man, six years ago.
But this was only the beginning.
