                    ALPHA RAIDEN
One fact about keeping secrets was the fear and guilt that slowly eat one away. For the past two days, while wondering what my kids’ birthday gifts could be, I have also considered telling Fiona what I saw in the future.
I yearn to share with her.
But I also feared that she would lose it. Or Not.
I haven’t told her yet and she has been moody these past few days.
For my own sanity, I made myself believe that Fiona was moody because she was occupied with training and planning the kids’ party. I tried to help however I could but I knew I wasn’t doing enough.
It was no surprise that I left my hut two nights before the party and strolled over to Otis’s hut.
“We’re sneaking around.” Lex laughed as I tiptoed closer to the hut.
I scoffed, “Jeremy can be anywhere. I don’t want him to see me.”
It was hard to believe that I, Alpha Lucas, was snaking around but thankfully, I got to Otis’s hut before anyone could see me. I knocked once on the wooden door and pushed the door open mindlessly.
“What the fuck, man!” Otis exclaimed.
That exclamation was followed by a high-pitched screech. My eyes widened when I realized that I had just walked in on what was supposed to be an intimate moment between Otis and Susanna. Susanna snapped, hiding her face in Otis’s chest, “Get out!”
Otis scowled at me, covering Susanna’s bare back with a flimsy excuse of a blanket. “What are you still doing here?”
The initial shock I felt subsided and I burst into laughter, seeing Susanna’s red face and Otis’s frustrated one. I just cockblocked him and he didn’t look pleased. I stuttered, “S-since when?”
“Since before you barged into my hut, asshole.” Otis rolled his eyes, cursing me but that only fueled my amusement. “What do you even want?”
“I came here to ask for your help,” I uttered after laughing to my heart’s content.
Otis retorted, “Even if I can help you, I don’t think I want to.”
“You shouldn’t help him.” Susanna supported him, wrapping the blanket around herself since she figured I wasn’t planning to leave.
Call me selfish but this couldn’t be proposed. They could have sex anytime but I could only gift my kids once for the sixth birthday. Or for the rest of their lives if the future- don’t think about that now, Lucas. Focus on the twins.
“It’s for the twins,” I informed the secret lovers and I watched as their determination crumbled and vanished like a puff. “What do you want?” Otis groaned defeatedly and Susanna picked her clothes from the floor, going into the inner chamber to get dressed but not before she glared at me.
I went closer to Otis and whispered to him, “I need to leave the pack and be able to return. Can you help me with a map or a detailed description of how I can find the Pack?”
“You want to leave?” Susanna gasped as she returned to the room.
I nodded, “Yes. I have to go back to my pack-”
“Leaving means you can’t return, Alpha Lucas. I can’t help you.” Otis cut in firmly, leaving no room for further discussion.
However, I put my argument forward, “I’ve to leave and I have to be able to come back before the twins’ birthday. I have to make up for the five birthdays that I have missed, Otis. I need to show up for Katie and Kyle and with the resources in this pack, I don’t see how I can do that. What would you do if you were in my shoes?”
“I understand you but I can’t help you. I’d be considered a traitor if I had the land of the forest to you or help you find the pack. Who knows what could go wrong? I can’t risk my people’s life.” Otis was adamant.
Knowing there was no way I would find the pack on my own if I stepped out of the shield, I looked at Susanna, hoping that she would help me convince her lover. She has been in my head. She knew I had no bad intentions.
“Susanna?” I called for her intervention.
She sighed, her eyes shifting to Otis, “We’ve to help him, Otis.”
“No, babe. We don’t have to. He can wait till-” Otis began but he stopped talking when he saw the look on Susanna’s face. Susanna knew I might never get that chance again. This could be my last birthday with the kids. No, I wasn’t planning to abandon them but fate was a cuny bastard.
I noticed that Susanna and Otis were talking through the pack’s special mind link which I had no access to and after two minutes of silence, Otis blurted, “Alright, I’ll help you but I can’t give descriptions. I have to go with you.”
“You’re trusting me with your life?” I was stunned.
“Better than trusting you with everyone’s life if you ask me.” Otis rolled his eyes.
I smirked but deeply, I was grateful. “When do we leave?”
To be honest, I didn’t want to waste any more seconds.
Fortunately, Otis answered with, “We leave now, Alpha Lucas.”
“Thank you so much!” I breathed in relief.
Susanna didn’t hesitate to voice her worry, “Please take care of him out there, Alpha Lucas. He has to return without a scratch or you’ll regret the day you let me into your head.”
“He’ll be fine. I promise.”
Otis murmured to Susanna, “I can handle myself out there, Susy. I don’t need a babysitter.”
I left the hut to give the duo some moment of privacy and I had every intention to ask Otis how he and Susanna finally worked things out on our way to my pack. They both joined me outside the hut and we strolled towards the shield together.
“Make sure our absence isn’t noticed,” Otis said to Susanna who nodded and patted my shoulder. “I’ll see you soon, my love.” “Don’t be cheesy. We aren’t going to the war front.” I yanked Otis off Susanna.
Otis slapped my hand off him but he left with me despite his displeasure. We stepped into the wild and I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel the shift in the atmosphere instantly. Otis announced, “I’ll lead us to the cliff and you will take over from there.”
“Thank you, man.” I expressed my gratitude again.
He didn’t know how much I appreciated his willingness to do this with me. If the next few months would really unfold like I saw in my predicted future, I might as well cherish every moment and person I had left in my life.
