Fiona
The ceremony for Dakota ended three hours ago and everyone who attended should be asleep by now, resting up to get enough energy for the twins’ party which would be starting by noon today.
However, I was unable to sleep.
Katie and Kyle were sleeping in my bed, unaware of the small party they would be having. Although that kind of party Susanna and I were able to plan wasn’t what I envisioned for my babies’ sixth birthday, It would have to do.
But that wasn’t what bothered me.
What keeps me up is the fact that despite my effort to get back into the Seer realm and get more clarification, I’ve failed. The visions have been hunting my soul for the past three days and even though I tried to hide my worries, It was becoming obvious to Mia Lu and the others that I had no intention of telling them what I saw and how it would affect the pack at large. “Have you stopped to consider that perhaps you need to sleep well and eat just as well to succeed?” Inara grumbled within me. Not getting enough rest has made her grumpy and to be sincere, I was grumpy as well which was why I was thankful that I didn’t have to cross paths with Lucas yesterday. A part of me didn’t want him to see me like this- urgh!!
What’s wrong with me?
I was thinking of visions yet worried about Lucas and what he thinks of me.
Why was it so hard to keep my thoughts off him even though we were no longer connected through the mate bond?
“You are thinking too hard, Relia. Can you please just sleep!” Inara snapped at me and blocked me out so she could rest and not have to deal with my thoughts.
I sighed for the millionth time before joining the kids on the bed. I lay in the middle, holding Katie on one side and Kyle on the other. I tried to relax and get enough rest because I wouldn’t want to appear tired at my babies’ party.
Although I did manage to doze off, it wasn’t a peaceful sleep. I kept seeing flashes of a gruesome battleground, bloody bodies, Mia Lu’s pale body, and many others that made me toss around in my sleep.
“Wake up! Fiona, wake up!”
Never had I been grateful for loud sounds that interrupted my sleep time. The kind that causes you to jump out of a terrifying dream and rush to the door because the noise was made by the least expected person, in my case, Jeremy.
Thankful or not, I still seethed as soon as I opened the door, “Keep it down. My kids are in bed. SLEEPING.”
The emphasis was clear since Jeremy always seemed to miss the point and he did it again when he ignored my words and babbled even louder, “He’s gone. I didn’t see him all through yesterday and he isn’t in his hut right now neither is he anywhere within the shield-”
“Who, Jeremy?” I had to cut him off, close the wooden door behind me, and take steps away from my hut so Jeremy’s voice wouldn’t wake the kids.
Jeremy chided, “Your ex-mate, Fiona. He’s gone and guess who is gone too!”
Huh, what?
Lucas is gone?
He wouldn’t leave without telling me, right? Not when it’s the kids’ birthday and a party would be held to celebrate them in a few hours from now.
“He can’t be gone.” I breathed, my heart racing.
I thought I wouldn’t have to do this alone this year. I thought he would be here for us this year-
“That’s not important. No one cares if he is gone or not.” Jeremy hissed but I cared. Shockingly, I admitted that to myself.” What’s important is that he took one of us with him. He kidnapped Otis!”
“Why would he even kidnap Otis? Why would he leave in the first place!” I snapped at Jeremy, hating how he spoke to me and appeared out of nowhere to rile me up.
“Why? It’s clear, Fiona. He took Otis so he could use his ability for his selfish ambitions. He’s just like the Black Fur members. Non-white wolves are evil and selfish and they shouldn’t be allowed to stay with us-”
“Are my kids evil and selfish too? Huh, tell me, Jeremy!” I yelled in his face, hating myself as I lost control of every emotion I’d tried to bury, hide from the world. “After all, we don’t know if they are white wolves. Will you hate them the same way you hate their father just because he is different!”
I exploded and that was something Jeremy didn’t anticipate before he came knocking on my door to tell me that the man who claimed to love me and never stopped chasing me was gone… and I was alone, again.
“A-aurelia-” Jeremy stuttered for the first time since I met him.
“I’m sure this is all a big misunderstanding, Jeremy.” I inhaled sharply but my heart wouldn’t stop racing. “Maybe they went hunting together-”
Of course, Jeremy didn’t understand that I was trying to create scenarios that wouldn’t break me. He argued like an idiot, “It’s not hunting day, Fiona. We have to-”
Unfortunately for me, before I could rip off Jeremy’s head, Susanna rushed over to us, panting, “What are you both yelling in the middle of the night?”
My fingers found the root of my hair, frustration zapping through my sleep-deprived body as Jeremy stated confidently, ” The Alpha is gone and he kidnapped Otis.”
“What?” Even Susanna couldn’t believe her ears and we were beginning to attract attention as more people exited their hut to either shut Jeremy up or out of curiosity. “That’s absurd, Jeremy. He didn’t kidnap Otis-”
“How will you be sure? Let’s check their rooms-”
“I’m sure because I have been in Lucas’s head. I know what he has done and what he is likely to do!” Susanna interrupted Jeremy and accused him of being paranoid.
Jeremy scoffed, “So I’m crazy for bringing a fact to you all? Instead of arguing, call them out, Susanna.”
That kind of shut Susanna up but a different but well-known voice chipped, “You are fucking crazy, Jeremy.”
