                    Fiona
The weight of the world crashed into me. My chest rose and fell in a way that made my chest hurt. My eyes stung but soon became blurry and the solid floor shifted underneath my feet.
I was tired.
I was drained of spiritual and physical energy but didn’t know when to stop… when to stop trying to see more than the goddess had already revealed to me.
Emotionally, I was drained and It was not surprising when I felt myself falling backward. In fact, I embraced the feeling and let myself go for the first time since I unlocked my powers as a Seer.
“Fiona!”
Lucas.
He screamed but that didn’t stop my body from crashing into a body of water that I knew was the purifying lake not just because I had been standing closer to it but because Its perfect temperature embraced me and it felt like I was home, once again.
“Hey. I’m here.” Lucas muttered to me as he gathered my body in his arms, joining me in the lake. “You are alright.”
It was hard to tell if he was reassuring himself or me. I saw a thousand emotions flashing through his eyes as he held my blurry gaze. I swallowed softly, relaxing in Lucas’s arms, and stayed like that until the lake restored enough energy to stand on my feet.
Despite that, Lucas didn’t release me. He helped me out of the Lake and Iris ran over to me, wanting to heal me. She said, ” I’m not a mender because of how I was born but I should be able to help you. Let’s go to your room.”
I nodded, knowing that there was nothing I could do to help myself or anyone in this state. I looked at Mia Lu, ashamed of myself, and apologized because that was no way to tell a great woman that she was going to die soon. “I’m so sorry, Tamia. That was wrong and I should never have spoken to you like that.”
To my surprise, Mia Lu smiled as she looked at Lori who also smiled at me. I tried to understand how they could still smile after hearing about my visions.
Mia Lu stepped forward and held my hand affectionately, “If you had told us sooner, we would have explained to you, Child.”
“Explain your death?” I uttered weakly.
“Yes, Child. We knew it would happen-”
“We can’t let that happen. I don’t want you to die.” I countered, shaking my head.
Lori stepped in as well, “She isn’t exactly dying, Fiona. What you saw is correct but-”
“I don’t understand. I saw her body.” I cut in impatiently, my back against Lucas’s chest.
“You did but what you saw is a spiritually induced sleep. Every spiritual guardian has to perform a ritual to renew their energy every ten years but since Mia Lu’s life force is used to fuel the shield and she is the only spiritual guardian alive, she hasn’t been able to perform the ritual.” Lori started explaining to me.
And Mia Lu took over, “To perform the ritual, I’ll have to let go of my responsibilities and connect to my spiritual source but I couldn’t for over twenty years.”
“Because you have to protect the survivors.” I gasped. “What does that do to you?”
“Failure to perform the ritual would lead to what you saw, Fiona. Soon, I’ll be forced to sleep deeply and I won’t wake up until my energy level is back to normal. We knew this would happen and there’s nothing we can do about it which is why we have been training over the years so everyone can protect or defend themselves when the shield falls with me.”
As simple as Mia Lu made that sound, I was still confused and sad because the fact still remains that Tamia Lu would be helpless and the white wolves would have to face the world soon.
“I’m not dying but there are risks and we have to take precautions.” Mia Lu concluded, squeezing my hand even though she was the one who needed to be consoled and comforted.
“What precautions do you plan for the move and the war or did I misinterpret that too?” I asked just as Susanna entered the hut with Jeremy behind her.
I assumed they were all in on this but was shocked when Jeremy queried, “Move? What move?”
“We didn’t plan to move, Fiona. The plan was to remain here and protect ourselves until Mia Lu wakes up.” Lori clarified. “But I saw everyone moving,” I stated and silence settled around us.
Susanna broke it when she said, “If the Seer saw that, then we will have to move.”
“I doubt that. Fiona’s visions are not clear and moving could lead to the War she saw. We have to be careful.” Lori argued wisely.
Jeremy exhaled loudly before revealing his perspective, “What if staying here will endanger the lives Mia Lu has been using her life to protect? What if the war will happen regardless of our location?”
Another moment of silence occurred as everyone started thinking about what lies ahead. I didn’t even realize that I was still in Lucas’s arms until he finally decided to speak on the topic. His voice made my body shiver and his hand circled my waist as he said, “A war would break out soon regardless of where you guys decide to occupy. From what I know, Alpha Tristan of Black Fur Pack has been attacking smaller packs secretly and with Lorraine by his side, he will become even more powerful.”
Lucas’s words not only reminded me of Tristan’s marriage to Lorraine but also the fact that they were out there scheming and becoming stronger while I still couldn’t reach the height of my potential.
“What you, the white wolves and I as the Alpha of Crescent Pack need is to come together and fight.” Lucas continued talking and he concluded with, “We need ourselves. You’ve abilities that can combat Lorraine and my pack has the war skills that will sharpen your abilities which is why I’m offering to open my pack to all surviving white wolves. Move into Crescent Pack and let’s put an end to this war.”
There was Lucas’s suggestion and for the first time in a long time, I found myself supporting him despite the risks.
If Tristan has Lorraine by his side, maybe Lucas can have me by his side, trusting him.
