ALPHA RAIDEN
For a pack of small people, moving was hard.
It took more than the days expected to pack up and destroy the huts. Otis and other Elemental wolves left the pack with me last night to create a safe path for the people to pass from the hidden pack to my pack.
Mia Lu and Lori were busy draining the purifying lake even though they had explained that they only needed a small quantity to create a new purifying lake in my pack when they arrived, I still didn’t understand why they were getting rid of the body of water.
Jeremy and Ross were in charge of making sure nothing was left behind and they checked every corner of the hidden pack after the people had gathered, ready to begin the journey to my pack that evening.
If we travel fast, we should arrive before the next morning but considering the kids with us and the loads, we might not reach my pack until tomorrow night.
Once again, I couldn’t bring cars from my pack to move the white wolves because cars would attract unwanted attention and Tristan’s spies could be anywhere.
“We are ready to go,” Jeremy announced to everyone and looked at Mia Lu who was standing between my mom and Lori. Mia Lu smiled at Jeremy before she addressed the white wolves, “I’ll be taking down the shield, and be rest assured, the trackers and elementals are already on the paths, securing it and ensuring everyone’s safety.”
“In other words, do not be afraid. Your safety is guaranteed.” Lori added.
But Jeremy being himself warned the people again, “It’s guaranteed as long as you keep to the path and follow the guidelines. Don’t be a sacrificial lamb.”
I hated that guy but he was right. If anything should go wrong, we might not be able to save those that are not on the path.
I stood by the side as Mia Lu inhaled audibly, closing her eyes and although it took a few minutes, the shield that had kept us all hidden from the rest of the world fell. Otis was on the other side of the shield and immediately it fell, everyone saw him.
Otis announced, “All you have to do is follow me. Please don’t stop until I tell you to and when I tell you to run, you run. Do I make myself clear?”
“Understood, Elder.” The white wolves answered in unison.
Otis started walking and ten people followed him before Susanna joined the line and another ten people followed her before Lori joined. The Elders had planned to mix with the people instead of just leading them or going behind them.
After everyone had gotten in line, Mia Lu stepped in line as well, followed by Jeremy, My mom, Fiona, and the twins. I was the last person to leave the area that the white wolves once inhabited, making sure no one was left behind.
“I’m happy, Mom,” Katie said after hours of silence. She was on Fiona’s back and I was carrying Kyle on mine to make the journey easier for them. Since we didn’t have loads to carry, the twins had our backs. “I’m happy because we are moving with friends this time and not leaving people behind. This is the first time we didn’t have to leave our family behind.”
“Henceforth, we never have to leave our family behind, baby,” Fiona murmured to Katie before she dosed off like the rest of the kids.
Kyle stayed awake thought but he was quiet. When the darkness of the night surrounded us and I was no longer sure of our safety, I moved Kyle from my back to my arms so he wouldn’t be exposed to any attack from behind.
My son looked at me with heavy eyes and asked, “How much longer do we have to travel, Papa? I’m feeling sleepy.”
“You can go to sleep, little man. I promise to protect you and hold you tight. We will be home before you wake up.” I responded, placing a kiss on his forehead.
My son rested his head on my chest after offering me a tired smile and he gave in to sleep in my arms.
From the way Fiona’s head kept turning, I knew she was on high alert and I suddenly felt the need to carry even her and Katie in my arms so they could all rest… and my mom too but I only have two arms.
“What’s going on?” I asked Fiona when the people before us stopped walking. She had access to the white Wolves Mind link unlike me so I knew she would know the reason.”
“Otis said we should take a break because we will have to run past the next mile,” Fiona answered me.
I didn’t like the idea of resting at the moment but knowing that it was needed, I didn’t try to impose my thoughts. I simply stayed alert and when it was time to run, Jeremy carried Mia Lu on his back because she was feeling very weak.
Some of the more agile white wolves did the same to the kids and tired wolves before we started running. The journey continued till the next afternoon when we arrived at my pack border. Andrew welcomed us and from the border, cars were provided to transport everyone to the Pack building that has been reserved for the white wolves like I ordered the nights Otis and I traveled to create the paths.
“Welcome Home, Alpha,” Andrew said to me after we both helped my mom, Fiona, and the twins into a car.
“It’s good to be home, Drew,” I responded but I knew this wasn’t the time to rest as my responsibility had doubled with the arrival of the white wolves. “Take me to Jake. I have some questions for him.”
That afternoon, I started preparing for the war I knew was coming. Perhaps it was the need to prevent my death or the need to make sure Fiona and the kids would be fine after my death.
