I knew she would be mad at me.
I haven’t been communicating with her since we arrived and even though I noticed that she wasn’t in the mansion when I got home this morning for the first time since we arrived in the pack, I couldn’t approach her in the morning.
There was something urgent that needed my attention.
Being away from the pack for over a month was a good vacation but it did come with consequences that I had to deal with and that hasn’t been easy as I had to interrogate Jake in hopes of getting information from him.
Anything that could help us prepare for the war.
I haven’t slept in two days neither have I been around anyone other than Andrew, a few elders of my pack, and a very weak Jake. Andrew definitely knew how to make him suffer without killing him-
“Why would you want to move in with us?” Fiona asked softly, looking at the ground to hide her red cheeks from me.
I shoved thoughts of the war and my piled-up assignment to the back of my mind and shifted even closer to Fiona, our legs touching. “Because I want to be close to you and wake up next to you. I want to have breakfast with you and the kids and hold all of you as you sleep.”
Doing all of that will demand time and I was willing to create time for my family if they were willing to spend time with me. “That would be nice,” Fiona whispered, finally meeting my gaze. Her blue eyes were shining and I could sense her anger melting away. “You do know why I can’t move into the mansion, right?”
I nodded immediately. “It’s bring back bad memories.”
Perhaps that was the reason I hadn’t been sleeping in my own room and buried myself in work.
“It does and I really want the leave the past in the past. I don’t want to be reminded. Instead, I want to create better memories with you, the kids, and everyone we love.” She said to me, squeezing my hand in a way that made my heartstrings pull.
Gosh, I love her.
“I want that too.” I pulled Fiona in for a hug because I felt like she would be able to read me any moment from now… And because I really needed a hug.
“Let’s check on the kids before they flood the bathroom all in the name of getting ready for bed,” Fiona said to me and we both laughed.
We held each other for a few minutes before we walked hand in hand to the bedroom. The pure feeling between us was growing faster than I could have imagined. I dare not complain though. I was loving every bit of it.
Katie and Kyle were found washing their mouths. They have freshened up and changed into their pajamas. Fiona excused herself saying she had to freshen up as well but she left the room and I assumed she went to use one of the other showers in the building.
“You should freshen up too, Papa,” Kyle said scrunching his nose.
“Yes, if you are really spending the night in Mom’s bed, you need to smell better than that or she will throw you out,” Katie warned me.
I didn’t recall Fiona complaining about my smell the last time we shared a bed but regardless, I let the kids force me into the shower and I was left to use Fiona’s feminine body wash and since I didn’t have something to wear after I left the shower, I had to use the biggest towel I found in the bathroom.
Fiona’s scent was all over it and I smelled like her.
“I love it.” Lex groaned into my mind and my groin tightened, threatening to wake up from its slumber.
“You have to help me here, Lex. Don’t make me make a fool out of myself before the kids.” I begged my wolf to stop putting ideas in my head.
After a couple of minutes, I was ready to leave the bathroom. I met Fiona in the room, fully dressed for bed but still trying to dry her hair while the kids lay in bed.
They all forgot about sleeping when I exited the bathroom. Katie started giggling first, Kyle shook his head as he joined her and Fiona tried to hold back her laughter.
“What’s funny?” I asked but quickly peeped to see if I had a bulge but I didn’t.
“You smell like Mama’s hair, Papa,” Kyle announced to me amidst laughter.
Fiona chuckled but she chimed, “Be nice, Kids.”
That only made the kids laugh harder and I gave Fiona a pointed look before murmuring, “I need to get something to wear from the mansion.”
“Why not wear Mom’s clothes? You already smell like her.” Katie mocked me.
I paid her back with tickles and she laughed so hard that she teared up. To avoid losing the towel while playing with the kids, I went to the mansion, picked a few clothes after wearing pajamas that I hadn’t worn in many years, and returned to my family.
We spent an hour taking turns telling funny stories and laughing before we slept off in the same bed. Katie and Kyle slept in the middle and Fiona and I were on the edges, holding one kid each… holding ourselves despite the threat hanging over us.
