The next morning came with a feeling that I had never experienced before. I woke up with a big smile on my face and the smile became bigger when I opened my eyes and saw my kids, sleeping soundly on my chest.
I didn’t know how I got to be in their middle but Katie was on one side and Kyle on the other. Their little fingers were on my heart and never have I felt so blessed.
Fiona wasn’t in the room when I woke up and my first instinct was to leave the bed and look for her but I allowed myself to enjoy the moment with my kids. I held them longer before leaving the room to find Fiona by following her strong scent.
Fiona smells like a lot of things at the same time.
She smelled like love. Like fresh flowers. Like a bowl of vanilla. Like home.
Her scent had always had effects on me but now that I was no longer under the spell of you know who, I was beginning to appreciate everything about Fiona more and her scent had become stronger since she started training spiritually.
“Good morning, beautiful.” I breathed when I found Fiona in the kitchen, completely immersed in cooking.
I could tell she didn’t perceive me until I spoke to her. She smiled at me as she responded, “Good morning, handsome.” Her eyes shifted off my body as she stirred the sauces she was cooking and I realized that this was the first time I’d seen Fiona in the kitchen. She looked invested and hotter than what she had cooking at the moment.
“We deprived ourselves of this scene?” Lex said to me.
I have come to realize that Lex no longer blames me for the past. Whenever he refers to the past, my wolf blames us both. “Not anymore.” I responded to Lex and walked into the kitchen, closer to Fiona, and asked her, “What can I help you with?” “Oh, please. We both know you’d end up setting the place on fire, Lucas.” Fiona shook her head adding diced vegetables into the sauce.
I laughed heartily, “I’m more afraid of ruining the taste of the food but I see you are more terrified of fire.”
Fiona smacked my arm playfully but something intense struck us both when our gaze connected. Her lips parted and my arms moved carefully around her waist. I pulled her closer while moving backward until my back hit the wall.
I switched our position, pinning Fiona against the wall before taking her lips in a heated kiss. Perhaps it was the heat in the kitchen or the one I have carried within me since I took her as my mate many years ago.
Fiona responded with a soft whimper. Her hands lay lazily on my chest and she opened her mouth to me. She opened up to me and I invaded her, merging my soul with hers as I poured my emotions into her. Fiona did the same, kissing me with passion.
“Goddess, I love you.” I purred deeply, biting Fiona’s lower lip.
She sighed but pulled away from me the second I let those words out. She couldn’t say it back and I was okay with that but she wasn’t. She returned to cooking, leaving me hungry not for the stir-fried pasta she was preparing but for her.
“If something is bothering you, tell me, Fiona. Communicating will help us.” I said to the woman my heart beat for, who my body carved to become one with. “You don’t like when I confess my love?”
“I do, Lucas and I don’t want you to stop,” Fiona replied without looking at me.
“Then tell me what’s going on?” I asked her, moving closer to her again.
Fiona reduced the heat of the fire before turning to me. She seemed unhappy and her words confirmed that. “Sometimes, I get flashes of the past when you say something like that. My memories just attack me and I can’t help it, Lucas. I want this. I want us to work but-”
“It’s holding you back.” I completed.
Even though she wanted to put the past in the past like she said, what I did to her in the past still haunted her. I was trying to make her happy but again I was causing her pain-
“I don’t want you to withdraw because of how I feel, Lucas. Your presence will help me heal and we will become stronger. Our bond will repair itself.” Fiona cut my thought short with the sweetness of her voice and the softness of her fingers as she touched my face.
“Withdrawing is not an option.” Not when I could die on the battlefield.
“Great because I plan to trap you with my cooking skills,” Fiona stated with a serious face but we both burst into laughter. “I don’t need to be trapped. I’m here to stay and trap you in my web of love.” I whispered.
“I look forward to being entangled in your web of love.” Fiona also whispered.
Our lips found their way to molding. This kiss was deep. It wasn’t heated like the one we shared earlier but it made my heart race and I was reluctant to break it even though Fiona and I needed to breathe.
Fiona didn’t try to break the kiss as well.
She held on to me until we heard two familiar voices exclaiming in unison, “Eww…”
Katie and Kyle.
They both covered their eyes with their palms but I could see Katie peeping from behind her parted fingers. That silly one. Fiona kissed me chastely on the lips before she detached to hug the kids.
We had breakfast as a family, enjoying the yummy stir-fried pasta that Fiona prepared with freshly squeezed orange juice.
I completely forgot about my duties as the Alpha of the Pack as I embodied my duties as the father of two beautiful kids and the mate to an amazing woman. The rest of the world ceased to exist until my mom called for me through the mind link and she asked me to come with Fiona, leaving me to wonder how she knew I spent the night with Fiona and the kids.
“My mom wants to see us,” I said to Fiona.
We all left the apartment together…. As a family.
