Susanna and I didn’t make it to the bedroom after we left the party last night. Although Katie and Kyle didn’t make it home at all. They followed Iris, spending the night with her in the white wolves’ building.
I woke up that morning and wasn’t surprised to see Susanna sleeping soundly on the second couch in the living room. I had spent the night on the biggest couch.
Of course, neither of us had enough sleep since we were up most of the night, discussing Susanna’s situation. I could feel her dilemma in my bones like I was in her shoes.
However, regardless of how short our night was, the second I woke up and realized it was morning, I moved over to Susanna, tapping her arm lightly.
“Wake up, Suzy,” I called her softly.
She grumbled, trying to shake me off, “I don’t want to.”
“Training starts soon, Suzy. We have to train.” I argued even though I wanted nothing more than to fall into bed.
Susanna whined without opening her eyes, “I don’t want to leave this couch, Fiona. Leaving here would mean I’m ready to face my chosen mate and my destined one. I don’t want to train today.”
My heart went out to her and I wished I could stay with her but I had to be at the training grounds so I could know where we stood. Also, I knew Black Fur’s military tactics and training strategy. I have to teach Lucas’s warriors and everyone who would be signing up for training today.
“Okay, Suzy. I’ll ask Zealina to bring food to you. Make sure you eat and get enough rest.” I said to the only female I could call a friend presently.
She hummed in response and as much as I thought it would be better for her to move to the bedroom, I let her be while I rushed to the bedroom to change my outfit.
When I got to the room, I put on a nude sports bra and a matching pair of shorts before making my way back to the living room. I was about to turn the doorknob when Susanna’s voice echoed.
She said, “Is it okay if I stay here for a while? I don’t want to run into Otis in the building. Plus he and I kinda planned to move into the same room tonight. I just can’t right now-”
“You can stay for as long as you want, Suzy. Just get ready to be stressed out by Katie and Kyle.” I chortled.
“Better than feeling awkward around Otis.” Susanna groaned.
I smiled at her before leaving and k didn’t hesitate to jog all the way to the training field where Lucas said we would be taking in new warriors today.
While I was jogging, Inara raised a question, “What if Susanna uses her ability to look into the future? She should be able to see who she needs to choose. That will save her a lot of heartaches and headaches.”
“As a Seer I can’t change the future and as a Memory Reader, she can’t read her own memory or use it to predict the future,” I answered my wolf, smiling at the pack members that I met on my way to the training field.
Inara hummed in understanding but she stated, “She can use Andrew’s or Otis’s.”
True and I suspected that Susanna already considered doing that but like she said, she wasn’t ready to face the men yet. “She just needs time, Ina,” I said to my wolf.
Wolves aren’t usually emotional thinkers unless it’s related to their mate or offspring so I wasn’t surprised that Inara didn’t understand Susanna’s emotions.
I put a smile on my face as I approached the field, seeing the number of people gathered around in groups. I was amazed. “This could be half the pack.” Inara gasped into my mind.
“Lucas must have sent out a mental message to explain the situation to everyone.” I assumed because I wanted to believe they all knew what was at risk.
As I mindlessly looked around for a familiar face, I found Lucas on one side of the field and I walked over to him.
“Hey, you.” I greeted him fondly and sat on the floor beside him.
His eyes raked over my body even though he appeared tired. “Hey, gorgeous.”
How could I be gorgeous when I haven’t even showered today? I rolled my eyes but asked with concern, “Why hasn’t the training begun, or at least the registration for new warriors?”
“I’m disoriented. Andrew and Otis kept me up until this morning and my head is aching. I just arrived a few minutes ago and the number of aspiring warriors stunned me. I needed to sit down for a bit.” Lucas explained.
He also told me that Andrew was supposed to be in charge but because he was completely drunk and still snoring loudly in his living room, he wasn’t on the field this morning and so was Otis.
“It’s good to know they were drinking when Susanna was worried sick,” I muttered with a frown.
Lucas shook his head, “They are worried too, Fiona. They simply handled it differently.”
I shrugged. It wasn’t my place to judge them anyway so I dropped the conversation by changing the topic, “What’s the plan now?”
“I’m yet to come up with any but it seems like it’s going to be just us this morning.” Lucas chimed with a sigh.
Knowing that I had to be with Mia Lu in a couple of hours, I couldn’t waste time. I found the middle of the field and called for everyone’s attention.
I used to be Tristan’s little project while I was training in his pack but now? Now I need to step up.
“First, I want to thank you all for coming out, and secondly, I’d like us to make this easier for ourselves.” I started addressing everyone on the field while Lucas watched me from a distance.
Within a few minutes, the warriors stepped forward and the aspiring warriors broke into groups. Each skilled warrior was placed as a leader of a group of at least three people. After I asked the leader to take the names of their group members and note down their strengths and weaknesses, Lucas joined me and together, we started preparing for the war.
Although we couldn’t do much that morning as we were both tired, we were able to get the new warriors familiar with battle before I had to leave the field with Lucas by my side as he had to visit the white wolves too because none of them showed up for training.
I could only hope everything was fine as we got closer to their building but upon our arrival, we realized that while everything was fine, everyone wasn’t.
