ALPHA RAIDEN
I haven’t visited the apartment building the white wolves have been occupying since their arrival four days ago. I thought today would be a good day to visit them because Fiona was going as well.
“You are obsessed.” Lex mocked me.
I corrected him with a smile on my face, “We are obsessed.”
On a more serious note, I needed to be with the white wolves for the creation of the new purifying lake and also know why none of them showed up for physical training like we initially agreed before leaving the hidden pack.
The smile on my face fell when we entered the general living room in what I would like to call the white wolves’ pack house and we found almost every one of them gathered to form a circle around someone who I not Fiona could see from where we were standing.
“What’s going on?” Fiona asked with concern as she struggled to push past the people.
No one seemed to notice Fiona, hear her question, or acknowledge her struggles as they murmured, focused on what or who was at the center.
I inhaled deeply before letting out an order that I knew the white wolves would sense because they were in my pack, “Make way.”
Simple yet captivated their attention. All eyes turned to me as I repeated, “Make way, please.”
And they did, creating a path for Fiona and me to pass.
We found my mom, Lori, Jeremy, and Ross in the middle of the circle but what caught my attention was the body, lying peacefully on the biggest couch in the living room.
“Mia Lu?” Fiona breathed as she rushed over to the body on the couch.
However, Jeremy stopped her before she could reach Mia Lu, “You can’t touch her.”
“Why not?” Fiona queried with wide eyes.
“Because she is transitioning into another realm, Fiona. This isn’t the time to touch her.” Jeremy answered impatiently. I growled at him but Lori cut in before I could check his tone for him, “This isn’t the time to be grumpy, Jeremy.”
“I can’t help it, Lori. We weren’t able to create the new lake before Mia Lu lost consciousness. The spiritual sleep will begin once she is stable and we don’t know when she will wake up. Not to forget that we can’t create the purifying lake without her. What if something goes wrong before she wakes up and-”
Lori interrupted calmly even though Jeremy was everything but calm, “Relax, Jeremy. Nothing will go wrong. We knew this was going to happen and we are ready for it.”
“I don’t think we are ready, Lori. We have never had to live a day without Mia Lu’s guidance until now.” Jeremy stated mindlessly.
He didn’t realize that his words were making the white wolves anxious and perhaps very scared of the uncertainty that their lives have become since they moved into my pack. I cleared my throat and stepped forward, standing beside Jeremy even though he was glaring at me.
“There is nothing to be worried about. Mia Lu is alight and you are all safe. Remember we moved into my pack to ensure your safety and while Mia Lu is recharging, I employ us to pull ourselves together and start training physically-”
“We can’t train physically for now, Alpha Lucas, ” Jeremy interjected firmly, causing my head to snap in his direction. Who is he to oppose me in my pack? In the presence of all these people? He’s lucky I wouldn’t think of hurting a white wolf.
I asked calmly despite the rage boiling within me, “And why is that?”
“We could get hurt and without the purifying lake we might not be able to recover-”
My mom kinda rescued Jeremy from me when she cut him off and said, “We’ve healers in the pack and Lori and the other menders are still here to help-”
“We still need the lake!” Jeremy snapped.
I snapped right back, growling, “You do not talk to my mother like that!” Jeremy took a step away from me, sensing my mood. “We came here to join forces and that’s what we will be doing. Everyone one of you should be on the training ground tomorrow morning.”
Jeremy still had the audacity to ask me, “Or what, Alpha Lucas.”
I ignored his disrespect and stepped closer to him, “Or I’ll make you understand that I’m the Alpha of this Pack and you are merely one of the elders of the white wolves. Don’t cross me, Jeremy.”
I couldn’t care less if anyone heard me. I just needed the plan we had before we moved to work.
I don’t want to die…
Not when I could live on with my mate and kids.
Unable to keep my anger under control, I stormed out of the building with the intention of going to see Jake and letting him bear the brunt of the anger Jeremy had triggered. I stepped into Jake’s cell room and he began to whimper, begging me to spare him today.
“I can’t spare you, Jake. It’s either you tell me something useful or we both die trying to win a war. I might die fighting but you will die before it even happens.” I mumbled emotionlessly.
Jake’s voice broke when he started beginning again and I had to look beyond his battered appearance to see the vile man he really was. Keeping those people hostage with Lorraine for many years without feeling guilty is more than enough to make a simple statement- Jake doesn’t deserve mercy.
“She never spoke about a war when we were working together. All she wanted was to marry you so she could become more powerful by feeding on your Alpha energy. Please believe me.” Jake pleaded shakingly.
“Well, I don’t believe you.” I breathed.
And the torture he deserved began because I strongly believed that Jake knew something that I could use to defeat Lorraine… something that would give me and the white wolves a chance against whatever power Lorraine had unlocked since she married Tristan.
