Fiona
Mia Lu was down.
Before I left the white wolves’ building I got to see Lori dress Mia Lu up in the same flowing green dress that I saw in my vision and she was carried into her room which was decorated just like I saw in my vision.
Nothing changed.
The future I saw was already happening and nothing, not even a single detail, changed.
That terrified me and even as I left the building after leaving my kids with Iris who said she would be staying there for a few days, I felt my heart racing as eight words kept flashing through my mind
“The future is here and it’s not changing.”
Those words reminded me of my goal. The need to change the future and now that Mia Lu was down, I wouldn’t know how soon the war I saw in my visions would break out. It could be tomorrow or the next week- Raien could die soon.
Oh goddess, no!
“What are we doing, Relia? We have to have a solid plan. We can’t keep going with the flow.” Inara was also panicking within
me.
We were both lost in our emotions and I didn’t know when I let go of my will and control of my body. Inara took charge of my body and shifted into her form. Even when we were in the hidden pack, we didn’t shift.
Despite the war in my chest, I felt relieved as Inara raced through the forest. I trusted her completely and took a much-needed break. I considered my options while Inara’s paws hit the earth lightly yet confidently.
How do I stop this war?
Should I talk to Tristan?
“That’s a bad idea,” Inara argued, her voice dominant in my mind. “He doesn’t know you are alive and we should keep it that way. He is a power-hungry bastard.”
I agreed but there has always been a part of him that felt real. A part of him that both Inara and I considered loving- “That was fake, Relia. Don’t be stupid. That man drugged us and dulled our senses. There’s nothing real about him.” Inara blurted, her anger rising as she recalled the day we actually trusted Tristan only for him to make a fool out of us. “Don’t make the mistake of thinking you can get through to him. Goddess knows what he had become after mating with Lorraine.”
“Okay. Okay. Maybe you are right and we can’t stop this war from happening but we have to find a way to keep Lucas away from the battlefield.” I said to my wolf.
“Good luck with that.” Inara retorted, knowing no one could keep a strong Alpha away from the battlefront, not when his pack was under attack from his mortal enemies.
I screamed within Inara, hating how I kept hitting a rock despite how many turns I took. I needed to see a light at the end of this tunnel before I lost my sanity.
My focus shifted when Inara suddenly stopped running, halting in front of a familiar building that had me asking, “Why are we here in Dakota’s home- Phoebe’s home.”
The nostalgic feeling that I felt the last time I was here was still quite prominent within me as my wolf stood before the building in all her white glory.
“I don’t know. Six sense or something. I just felt drawn to this place.” Inara answered just as confused as I was.
The entrance door of my childhood home opened and through Inara’s piercing eyes, I saw Phoebe for the first time since I returned to the pack. I instantly recalled the way she begged me to take her back to Black Fur Pack with me because Crescent no longer felt like home.
Phoebe’s face dropped when she sighted my wolf. Inara wasn’t as tall as Phobe but she was simply a few inches short. Phoebe looked directly into Inara’s eyes after her lips parted in shock. She gasped, “Is that you? Fiona?”
Inara snorted as she bopped her head. I could tell she wanted to tell Phoebe that she was Inara and not Fiona but she settled for a snort.
“Oh my goddess! I intend to visit you later in the day since you returned safely but I have been busy at the Pack’s Hospital. It’s so good to see you alive and like this…” Phoebe’s eyes scanned Inara’s frame and I saw pride in her eyes. “You look beautiful.”
That compliment was something Inara would kill for and she enjoyed the affection from Phoebe but I cut it short because I needed to shift into my human form so I could communicate with Phoebe.
Since I couldn’t shift out here because Inara ripped my clothes when she shifted earlier, Inara walked past Phoebe, used her head to open the door, and stepped into the small living room where Dakota and I used to sit as a family of two.
I quickly shifted as wave of nostalgia hit me again.
This was the first time I could be within the wall of this home since I got married to Lucas, left him, and-
“Let me get you a dress,” Phoebe muttered, calling my attention to my nakedness.
“I’d appreciate that,” I said to Phoebe before my eyes returned to the details of the space.
Although a lot has changed since the last time I was here; Phobe has added her touches but there were still a few of Dakota’s; I still felt at home.
“Sorry. It’s not a fancy one.” Phoebe said to me as she handed me a floral dress.
“It’s more than fancy.” I countered, putting the dress on.
Phoebe smiled as she asked, “What brings you here? As much as I want to believe you came to see me, I know you have been busy with the new wolves in the pack. I also have to be at the hospital soon.”
“To be honest, I don’t know why I’m here. I was agitated and my wolf brought me here.” I said to Phoebe, quickly apologizing for disrupting her day.
“Please, it’s good to know that you see this place as home. I was hurt when you left without a word after I told you that I felt alone-”
“I’m so sorry, Phoebe.” I apologized again. I felt bad that I didn’t think about her when I was making that decision even though she had proven to be the younger sister I never had. “I’ll make it up to you but for now, let me walk you to the hospital.”
And we walked together. I felt at peace during the walk and forgot about my worries as Phoebe and I chatted. We stopped before the hospital building, hugged each other, and promised to spend more time together.
“I’ll be on the training ground tomorrow. I thought It’d be great if I learned something about defending myself.” Phoebe said to me with a smile.
“Of course. You will kick asses.” I replied and we both laughed before saying our goodbyes.
However, Phoebe called me back after I took a couple of steps away from the entrance. She said to me, “Did you ever open the box?”
My brows furrowed as I questioned, “What box?”
“The box I gave you when we first met,” Phoebe answered.
My eyes squinted as it all came back rushing to me- the box I pushed under the box and forgot about.
Phoebe read my expression and she said, “You should open it, Fiona. It could have been carrying the answers you came looking for.”
I nodded and rushed back to the apartment, the box in my mind. I wondered what I would find. Answers? I hoped.
