ALPHA RAIDEN
After hours of torturing Jake, he revealed the locations of Nolan’s warehouse where he has been hoarding modern weapons that would help us during the war if I could get my hands on them.
I instantly sent men to the various locations, hoping Lorraine hadn’t emptied the warehouses before my men arrived.
“I’ll be back tomorrow for more and I hope you won’t make it difficult for the both of us,” I said to Jake who could only groan in response before I left the pack’s holding ground.
I felt flirty after leaving so I went straight to my mansion where I freshened up, Ignoring Otis and Andrew who were still in my house, sadly. However, they weren’t drunk.
In fact, they were making dinner. I was invited to join them but I declined because I wanted to have dinner with Fiona who I hadn’t seen since we parted earlier today.
I missed her. So much.
“Tomorrow is a new day and I expect the both of you to pull yourselves together and show up,” I said to Andrew and Otis.” And get the fuck out of my house.”
They both chuckled as I slammed the door shut and did a happy walk to Fiona’s apartment. The place was quieter than usual and I immediately knew that the kids were not there. I’d have loved to spend the night with them in the room with us.
“But you can’t complain. You want some alone time.” Lex said with a singsong tone, causing me to snigger.
“I can’t complain.” I retorted with a smile but that smile fell when I opened the door to Fiona’s bedroom and found her sitting in darkness, on the floor and completely lost in a world I didn’t know about… at least not at the moment. I breathed softly, “Are you alright?”
Her scent said she wasn’t but I still asked as I drifted closer to her, eyeing the boxes in front of her.
Like a broken robot, Fiona chimed, “I think I found my parents.”
That wasn’t what I expected.
I mean, I thought she was worried about the looming war or the fact that Mia Lu was down and she had a lot of responsibilities.
I thought she was worried about her Seer skills or something related to her powers.
Finding parents wasn’t in the box of expected options.
“You found them? Where?” I asked softly even though curiosity was burning my guts.
I sat beside her, looking at her expressionless face.
Fiona answered, “I found them in a photograph.” She raised her hand, revealing an old photo. “In this photograph,”
I couldn’t see clearly because we were in a dark room with the moonlight barely peeping at us through the window. I took the photograph from Fiona, rose to my feet, and walked to the switch to put on the bulb in the room.
I inhaled sharply when I saw the photograph clearly.
There are two people. Two different people who both look like Fiona in different ways. Although Fiona’s hair still has black in it, it was mostly white now and I could see the striking resemblance between her and the woman in the picture.
Even Katie looked like a mini version of that woman.
Fiona’s soft voice broke the trance the photograph pulled me into, “Do you know them?”
I shook my head. “I’d have figured it out just by looking at you if I knew them.” I’d have known.” “What do you think when you look at them?” Fiona asked, her voice laced with fear and uncertainty. I whispered, “I think they created you together and I think we should ask the white wolves about them.” Fiona smiled with teary eyes, “I have been searching, Lucas. Searching and they have been in this box all along.” Tears rolled down her cheeks as she held my gaze. I settled down on the floor beside her, pulling her into my side. “Why didn’t I open the box sooner?” She cried and started explaining how she got the box. She told me about her life with Dakota and how she died.
It pained me that I missed Dakota’s remembrance ceremony and overlooked the lovely woman for most of her life. In spite of my guilt-ridden thoughts, I held Aurrlia and listened as she spoke to me.
“Mia Lu must know who they are,” Fiona concluded, gazing at the photograph with obvious affection. “I hope she wakes up soon so I can know more about these people.”
“How about we ask Lori or Susanna?” I suggested that because I could sense the urgency of the matter.
If I were Fiona, I would want to know more about my parents after spending twenty-seven years of my life knowing nothing about them.
She didn’t even know who she was until recently.
“I doubt they would be able to help but I’ll ask,” Fiona said to me.
“Do you want me to fix dinner?” I asked her.
“If it won’t kill me before Mia Lu wakes up, yes, but if it will, hard pass.” Fiona sniffled but managed to snigger.
I laughed, “It could kill you so I will just steal some of whatever Andrew and Otis are cooking.”
“Take your time,” Fiona said to me while I walked towards the door. “I have been staring at the photograph for too long. I need some alone time to go through the box.”
Regardless of my desire to scoop her into my arms, I decided to give her the space she needed. I returned to my mansion and didn’t return until I could no longer stay away from her.
I went back to her room with food but I found her fast asleep on the floor with the photograph and some sort of journal on her chest.
Goddess, how I want to give her peace.
But for now, I carried her to bed and slept beside her, her scent engulfing all of me.
