ALPHA RAIDEN
From where I was standing, I could feel a million and one thoughts flashing through Fiona’s mind and see countless emotions glinting in her blue eyes which had become darker than usual.
Of course, I couldn’t understand everything because I wasn’t with them when many of these issues went down at the hidden pack.
But I could understand Fiona’s pain-
“All this while?” Fiona stuttered, tears brimming in her eyes. “All this while she knew I was family?”
Susanna could only nod as she sniffled back tears and took her eyes off a distrust Fiona. Fiona clearly had more questions to ask but she didn’t utter a word until I saw a twinkle of realization in her eyes.
It was as if she had it figured out without questioning the white wolves.
She confirmed that when she said, “The last Seer was the Luna of the pack and she was Mia Lu’s goddaughter. Luna Elora Seer King.” That name rolled off Fiona’s tongue with pain and a slight draw. “She was Elena’s daughter. Elena is Tamia Lu’s Twin sister.” Again, the Elders of the pack nodded. I could sense their regrets and shame as they allowed Fiona to figure out the rest herself.
“Is that how we are related? Am I the child she was pregnant with when she gave up her life to protect-” Fiona’s voice broke, tears streaming down her face and I wanted to hold her, let her know that I was there for and with her but I stayed put because she needed this time to reach the truth. “Am I related to Tamia Lu through the Luna of White shade pack or does she have another relative that I don’t know about?”
Anger was loud in Fiona’s voice but so was pain.
I was lost at this point as I didn’t know any of the people Fiona was mentioning and my mom wasn’t around to enlighten me. I believed my mom would know something about the names Fiona was mentioning-
“Y-yes, Great White wolf-” Lori answered softly.
However, Fiona cut her off angrily, “Don’t you dare call me that! How am I great when you all chose to deceive me!” The woman I love gave in to the sorrows in her heart… the sorrows that accompanied the truth she was seeking.
Although Lori hasn’t answered yet, I knew she was called Great because she was white wolves’ royalty.
The last royalty of the fallen pack.
“You are the daughter of the great white wolves, Alpha Kennedy King and Luna Elora Seer King. That makes you a great white wolf, Fiona. You don’t know the kind of power you can channel-” Lori started explaining.
But again Fiona interrupted sharply, crying uncontrollably, “How would I know? You lot didn’t tell me. Fuck, I asked. I asked Mia Lu if I was her grandniece. I asked if I was her family and all of you lied to me. I asked you all…”
Fiona cried, repeating “I asked” over and over again before she crouched, holding her knee against her chest as she processed everything.
I dragged my feet, aiming to get to her but she muttered before I could, “She said it was my responsibility to protect the survivors…”
I didn’t understand what Fiona meant by that until she added, “Those were my mother’s words to Tamia after she decided to stay behind so the survivors could escape.”
Jeremy was quick to utter, “And that is why Mia Lu asked us not to tell you about your root. She didn’t want you to feel responsible for us not after the kind of hell you have been through-”
“That’s for me to decide.” Fiona barked ferociously. “She had no right! You all had no right to keep me in the dark!”
The tension in the air became thicker. I felt a strange energy surge within my pack and in fact, I was very close to the source but didn’t realize until Fiona rose to her feet and I saw the color of her eyes.
Those stormy blue eyes had changed into dark, empty white.
Fiona bellowed before any of us could wrap our minds around the sudden change in her aura, “My mother was a fighter. She fought for your lives and mine. She fought to have me before she let death take her. She fought yet you lied to me. I should have been her daughter. I should have been more responsible.”
I didn’t recognize the voice that came out of Fiona’s mouth. I failed to recognize the woman that I loved. For Goddess’s sake, her hair became full white within an instant. It was as if someone washed the black dye off with unexplainable energy and the length changed as well, growing longer and falling over her back right before my eyes.
What the hell?
Did that just happen?
What kind of power was-
“We’ve to help her calm down,” Otis exclaimed but no one dared to move closer to Fiona. In fact, they all took steps backward, away from her.
“She’s finally tapping into her true strength as an Alpha but this isn’t the right way. She’s too angry. Too broken.” Lori cried out as well.
Susanns began to cry, “This is why Mia Lu didn’t want to tell her. She thought she could train Fiona and help her heal… help her become ready for her responsibility as the last great white wolf.”
Perhaps they were right to not have told Fiona who she was but they were wrong. Very wrong.
They are the reason she is going through this now.
We all are.
We all broke her at one point in time.
We all took turns hurting her.
And she deserved better than any of us could give her.
I felt so ashamed on our behalf as I took steps closer to Fiona’s trembling frame. She was standing on a spot but shaking visibly. The energy around her pushed back against me but I pushed harder.
“Fiona,” I whispered as soon as my fingers touched her shaky hand.
But she didn’t react, not to my touch nor my voice.
I had to force my body closer to her, holding her against my body even though she struggled, crying and yelling at the same time.
“Fiona, please. Relax. For me.” I whispered into her ears but sadly, that didn’t seem to do the trick even though she stopped trying to push me off her.
“But when I said, “For Katie and Kyle”, she froze and went limp in my arms within a minute.
