Fiona
Lori met us at the entrance of the building, her eyes pleading with me. I knew she was about to apologize for keeping the truth from me as I hadn’t seen her since Lucas carried my unconscious body from the building weeks ago…
I haven’t been here since I transitioned and-
“She’s in her room. We will be here in case you need anything,” Lori changed her mind about the apology and I was grateful.
Susanna and Otis also nodded, assuring me that they would be there waiting for me.
If I had a choice, I would have asked them to come to Mia Lu’s room with me but this was something I had to do alone. I nodded before leaving the trio. My steps were slow but soon enough, I was in front of Mia Lu’s bedroom.
“Are you really ready to face her?” Inara asked me as I was taking too long to open the door to Mia Lu’s bedroom.
I responded to my wolf, “I have to be. I can’t keep myself away from her. She is family and I know she must have a way to help me save Lucas.”
Whether I like it or not, I have to learn to use my powers as the last living King of the white wolves.
“Okay, take your time.” Inara sighed into my mind.
That was exactly what I planned to do. I stayed by the door until I was ready to turn the doorknob. I entered Mia Lu’s room and saw her lying on her back with her eyes closed. She looked younger than I remembered and I could tell she was at peace. “I’m not at peace, not when I know I caused you pain.” Of course, she read my thoughts again but I heard her voice in my head in a way I wasn’t familiar with. Mia Lu used the same technique as she said, “I didn’t speak it, I thought it.”
I blurted, “So I’m reading or hearing your thoughts?”
Although Mia Lu’s eyes remained closed, she replied, “Yes, you are, Fiona.”
“But how? I had never done that before.” I stated out loud.
To be sincere, this wasn’t how I imagined my meeting with Mia Lu would begin. I expected an apology and an explanation not a revelation of a new ability.
“Maybe or maybe not, but it’s one of the many hidden skills you have as your father’s daughter.” Mia Lu thought and I heard those words like they were a part of my own thoughts. “And I do plan to apologize, child. I’m deeply sorry-”
“But you won’t even open your eyes,” I said to her still body, eyeing her as anger came to life within me, “Why won’t you look at me, Mia Lu?”
“Because I’m ashamed. I can’t bring myself to look at you, not when I know that have hurt you-”
I interjected, “Yes, you hurt me but I need to look into your eyes when you apologize… when you explain. Face me, Mia Lu.”
Perhaps I was being disrespectful to the oldest white wolf… to my grandaunt but her decision to make me discover an ability when I was mad at her wasn’t exactly pleasing. I had tried hard to not stay mad at her but at the moment, she was fueling my anger.
“I’m sorry for hurting you, Fiona Seer King.” Mia Lu uttered, using her tongue and voice for the first time since I stepped into her room. Her eyes fluttered open and I instantly regretted asking her to look at me. Her eyes were flooded with emotions that had me inhaling sharply and her voice resonated when she added, “I’m deeply sorry, Child. Can you ever forgive me?” Can I?
Although I had forgiven her many days ago, the anger remained. I wasn’t sure I could let go of this anger. I stood before her in silence but internally, I was fighting to let go of the anger I thought I had buried deep enough to face her without losing my shit.
But I was losing my shit faster than ever.
