ALPHA TRISTAN’S POV
I don’t know what was but something was wrong with me…. Fuck that! A lot was wrong with me.
I sensed the difference weeks ago yet I have failed to figure out what exactly was different.
I felt weak yet never have I felt this strong.
In control but utterly out of control.
Wise but absolutely stupid.
“Tool you this long to figure that one out.” Wolf would have made such a snarky comment if he hadn’t been unbearably silent for a couple of days or was it weeks?
I don’t know.
But I knew he would have said something like that to me just to call me out.
All of a sudden, I missed Dolf’s constant yapping. I missed how he used to irritate me with his nags even though he knew I wouldn’t listen to him.
Dolf never gave up on me… until now.
These days, I find myself getting lost in my damn thoughts. I find myself thinking about nothing but every damn thing at the same damn time. For instance, I was supposed to be going through the stack of papers on my office desk.
I was meant to go through every report that I have somehow postponed many times these past weeks but yet again, I caught myself doing out and didn’t regain focus until my Beta knocked on my office door.
“What do you want?” I breathed, caressing my forehead as I looked at Louis.
“I have been knocking, Alpha. You appeared absent-minded. Is something bothering you?” Louis asked, careful with his words as he stepped into my office.
“Just tired,” I answered.
“You should get some rest, Alpha. I’ll gladly take over for you so you can-”
“So I can rot away!” I snapped at my Beta even though a bigger part of me wanted to snatch the opportunity to return to my room where I have been spending most of my time, sleeping like a goddamn pregnant she-wolf. “Have I not had enough rest?”
Louis stepped backward but his head remained straight which would have been different in the past, when I was in my full glory. He would have bowed and cower before me.
Goddess, I must have sounded like a timid mouse…
“What’s happening to me?” I asked with a calmer tone, looking at Louis for answers.
“I wish I had answers to that, Alpha and I wished I could tell you that there is nothing wrong with you,” Louis uttered, although carefully, also confidently. “Perhaps you should ask the Luna for help. She could be able to help you get-”
“I can appear weak to her. She has been fortifying the warriors with her dark powers and I know I am the source of her strength.” I warned my Beta.
But the look on his face kinda made it known that my current state isn’t exactly a secret anymore. My absence during training hours, during important meetings, and during the usual pack dinner nights haven’t gone unnoticed.
“You can’t say a word about it to anyone, Louis. It will be the confirmation they need. Can I trust you?” I asked Louis but before he could answer, Lorraine walked into my office like she owned the place.
She muttered, “I have been looking everywhere for you, Alpha.”
That was Louis’s clue to leave my office and he nodded curtly before leaving even though I wasn’t in the mood to entertain Lorraine who only came to me when she wanted sexual intimacy. However, regardless of my mood, I have come to realize that she was irresistible to me for reasons beyond the bond but I didn’t know at the moment.
“I think we should be celebrating, Tristan and the frown on your face isn’t fitting,” Lorraine whispered seductively, making herself comfortable on my legs.
I ignored the way her firm breasts pressed against my chest as I asked, “Celebrating what exactly?”
She smiled mischievously, responding with, “The new life within my womb.”
“Huh?” Shock rippled through my body as my eyes widened but my brain failed to catch up with the reality Lorraine was throwing at me. “Y-you are pre-pregnant?”
Lorraine smiled brightly, “Yes, Tristan. I’m carrying your baby and the timing has never been perfect.”
“It’s not perfect, Lorraine. We are going to war.” I countered, pushing her off my lap.
Rather than share my fear of losing the baby she claimed to be carrying, the baby I couldn’t sense because Dolf wasn’t active within me, Lorraine smiled again, “Which makes it perfect, Tristan. We can use the baby’s life force to strengthen me and go to war with-”
“You want to use my baby as fuel?” I interjected with a question.
“Not fuel but something like that. This baby will help relieve you and you will be able to-”
“Enough of your nonsense, witch!” I barked, hoping I sounded nothing like a timid mouse. “You will not be killing my child.” Lorraine looked at me like I was being unreasonable. After a minute of silence, she laughed like an evil maniac, “You don’t see the future that I see Tristan, and knowing that the warriors will be matching towards Moon Stone Pack in a couple of days, all I can say to you is…”
She looked at me like she was daring me to interrupt her as she completed her statement, “Try and stop me, Alpha Tristan, and face my wrath.”
With that said to my face fearlessly, Lorraine smiled at me, kissed my cheek, and walked out of my office, majestically. She even hummed a melody, leaving me dumbfounded.
