It’s either time stopped or I froze as Lucas’s last choice of words rang in my head.
Marriage?
Susanna should be the one in this dilemma, not me.
Marriage was the last thing on my mind even though I have come to love Raden differently. In the past, I loved him because of the bond and because he was my Alpha but now? It was different.
I loved him because I chose to.
But I haven’t told him that-
“But you told him-” Inara began talking, about to mention the moment Lucas and I shared in the white wolves building after Tamia made me the leader.
I quickly interjected, “I know what I said, Ina, but marriage? There is a war and the vision-”
My chest rose and fell in a way that made it ache and hard to breathe without wheezing. Lucas placed his hand on my shoulder when he saw I was struggling to understand his words.
He muttered, “You don’t have to respond-”
“First date but I got a marriage proposal,” I spoke before Lucas could stop me. Having his hand on my shoulder helped me relax enough to crack a joke, “This dress must be doing things to you.”
“Haha.” Lucas faked a laugh. “Didn’t think you noticed.”
“I didn’t notice until you popped the big question.” I etched avoiding his gaze as I let my eyes linger on the structure Lucas had been putting together for our family.
It would be our home and we would all line here if I could save him from death… If I say yes to him-
“No pressure, Fiona. You can take your time to think and-”
But we didn’t have time-
“I will marry you again, Alpha Lucas of Crescent Pack.” I stunned myself when I cut in with those words flowing out of me with a level of certainty that I didn’t know I had.
Lucas’s eyes glinted with happiness but his body was frozen. He looked back at me like he couldn’t believe his ears. Heck, I couldn’t believe my ears but I knew my heart was right.
“I want to marry you again, Lucas, and I want to do it right with you this time,” I affirmed, smiling because saying those words to him pumped sweet bliss into me.
Watching his face lighten up and emotions zapping through his eyes like wildfire was fulfilling. Before I knew it, Lucas snatched my body off the ground. I yelped out of shock but soon began to laugh as he twirled me in the air.
Our eyes locked while I was in midair and I felt it… I felt the floodgate of love opening. I felt chemistry building up between us. The sparks rolled off my body and the affection grew in the middle of my chest.
I felt it all.
And he did too.
“Can I kiss you?” He breathed so gently, causing my heart to swell.
I beamed and nodded.
Lucas lowered my body but he still held me to himself in a way that made my legs dangle in the air. He held my weight, held my gaze, and didn’t hesitate to hold my lips in his in a slow, passionate kiss as my arms curled around his neck.
That one simple kiss melted the past and instead of letting the memories kill the electrifying moment, I found them vanishing … I found them motivating because I could finally see how far Lucas and I had come to be in each other’s arms.
Lucas didn’t break the kiss until we both needed air and I winced when he finally did, wanting more of him… more of us. “I promise to protect you, spiritually and physically. I promise to be the husband and mate you deserve, Fiona. I promise never to hurt you again.” Lucas muttered to me, without breaking eye contact.
My eyes stung with tears because I knew he would hurt me if I failed to save him.
Look at me… I have finally reached the state where I understood why the future version of me was crying profusely over Lucas’s lifeless body. She loved him and I loved him too, maybe not as much as she loved him but-
“I love you so much, Relia,” Lucas mumbled, interrupting the chain of my thoughts.
I frowned, “Relia?”
That was new… coming from him.
“What? You don’t like it?” Lucas asked and I could only stare at him. “I didn’t want to call you Lia but I want to have a nickname for you. It makes me feel closer to you-”
“I love it.” I finally answered.
Lucas exhaled, relief in his eyes as he set me on my feet, “Don’t scare me like that…”
I chuckled, feeling the need to frame this moment-
“We need to make an announcement and have the wedding as soon as possible_” Well, he ruined it.
“Why the rush?” I countered, my heart throbbing. “Are you planning to travel?”
“Where would I want to go without you?” Lucas quickly covered up but I wouldn’t have doubted him if I didn’t already know why he was in a rush.
The Great Beyond?
I answered his question in my head and swallowed the sadness that threatened to spill out of me.
“Then we have no reason to rush. The war is-”
Lucas cut me off, “Shush. Don’t jinx it.”
“That’s not my intention but we will be risking our victory if we are to make an announcement now. Other packs will hear about the news no matter how hard we try to curb it. So I say we wait till after Lorraine and Tristan have been captured… after the war, Lucas.” I voiced my worries.
Lucas nodded, “Okay but you have to come up with a nickname for me. Andrew call me Lucas-”
“Lorraine used to call you Lucas so, Ew.” I rolled my eyes.
“Yeah, ew.” Lucas agreed with me and we both laughed heartily as we started walking towards the structure so Lucas could show me around.
After that, we went to eat lunch and by the time Lucas took me back home, I could say that the date was perfect.
However,r it was also at that moment that I realized that the proposal wasn’t perfect. I turned to Lucas and exclaimed, ” Where’s the ring?”
“What ring-” he started asking but soon swallowed his words as realization drew on him. “Fuck, I forgot the damn ring!” I had never laughed as hard as I did at that moment. My stomach hurt but my heart was completely healed… However, I never got to tell Lucas that I loved him too, not until it was too late.
