ALPHA RAIDEN
“It’s time for me to retire as Alpha.”
Those words echoed through my room, the one in my mansion where Alpha Clinton has been recovering since he arrived with his pack members yesterday.
The older Alpha said those words to his son, Benji who instantly argued, “No, father. You are still strong enough to be Alpha
“My pack no longer exists, Benji. It’s time for you to take over and rebuild Moon Stone. You are my heir-”
Benji argued, “I wasn’t your her until those bastards killed-”
His voice broke and I saw him fighting back tears as his fist tightened, his knuckles turning red.
Benji’s younger sister who has been sitting by her father’s bed since I entered the room, chimed, “It’s time to step up, Benji. Dad needs to rest and the Pack still needs its Alpha unless you want me to take over.”
“You are more of an Alpha than I have ever been, Ella.” Benji muttered but added, “But I would rather be the next one to die in War.”
Alpha Clinton and Ella barked at Benji, telling him not to talk about death. The family seemed to have forgotten that I was in the room with them so I cleared my throat to get their attention.
“No one is dying. Not on my watch.” I started by assuring them. “I came to check on you. I hope the place is comfortable enough—”
“We should thank you for your hospitality, Alpha Lucas. You are a true friend.” Alpha Clinton said to me while his children nodded in agreement.
“I wish I had done more.” I etched, blaming myself for Alpha Clinton’s losses.
“Don’t blame yourself, Lucas. Even if you had sent help, it would have been useless against them.” Alpha Clinton uttered.
His words reminded me of the second reason for my visit. Although he was talking about the difference in Black Fur’s strategy yesterday, we had to force him to rest but I couldn’t get his words off my mind all night. I couldn’t wait to ask him about it which was why I came here as soon as I left the training field where I grilled my men hotter and pushed them more because the war was nearer than ever.
“Knowing more about the attack would help us prepare better and-”
“Benji is the new Alpha of Moon Stone Pack. He will tell you all you need to know. I believe my father needs to rest more, Alpha Lucas.” Ella cut in respectfully.
I could tell she didn’t want her father to relive the sad moments that snatched his mate and son away from him. My heart swelled with pride on Clinton’s behalf.
“I’m not the Alpha but my sister is right. I’ll tell you everything.” Benji announced. “I’d also like to ask you for a favor.” “Anything in my power, Benji?” I asked.
“Yes. If it won’t inconvenience your Pack, we would like to hold a proper funeral for the people we have lost.” Benji said in response.
“We can arrange that,” I said to Benji before asking him to come with me to meet Seth. Andrew and Otis in the apartment I now share with Fiona and the twins.
Speaking of Fiona, she has been in the mansion all morning with my Mom, Phoebe, and Zealina. They were doing all they could to be a good host. It
“Hey.” Fiona breathed when she saw me exiting the mansion with Benji.
She looked more relaxed than she did yesterday but the bags under her eyes made it known that she was still very tired.
“Hey.” I hugged her and told her about the meeting Benji and I would be attending in the apartment.
“I’d like to join you guys,” Fiona muttered, which was not a surprise.
I nodded and the three of us walked to the apartment where Otis, Andrew, and Seth had been waiting since I told them I would be returning with news from Alpha Clinton.
We met Susanna sitting outside the building with the twins and Maya. While Susanna chose to join us, the twins remained outside with Maya.
As soon as we entered the living room, I noticed that Otis wasn’t there and I asked about him as we all settled down, ready to make plans for the future we all could now predict.
“He had to use the restroom,” Seth answered my question about Otis’s whereabouts.
We began the meeting without Otis because I knew Susanna and Fiona would brief the white wolves later. Benji began by saying, “We relate with every supernatural being in the realm and beyond but never have I seen warriors as sleek and dangerous as the ones that attacked us.”
He continued, “Moon Stone Warriors aren’t the best but we have been able to study every pack and know their weaknesses but just like my dad said yesterday, a lot has changed with Black Fur.”
“A which is their Luna so that explains a lot,” Andrew said.
Benji nodded and explained how their warriors tried to fight but couldn’t draw blood from Black Fur warriors. “Nothing penetrated their skin.”
“She must have fortified them and made them resistant to weapons. Physical weapons at least.” Susanna explained to us.
“Then we must be ready to fight them spiritually but Crescent members aren’t spiritually like white wolves,” Fiona stated, voicing my worries.
However, Susanna blurted, “That’s where Jeremy comes in. He has a special ability that allows him to create a spiritual path in a regular wolf. It won’t last long but all Crescent Warriors will gain abilities, use and control them effortlessly until Mia Lu can reverse the witch’s fortification spell.”
“That’s good news.” I breathed, amazed by Jeremy’s ability even though he was a pain in my ass-
Otis’s voice resonated through the room, “What’s good news?”
“We kinda found a way to reverse Lorraine’s-” Susanna was quick to explain.
But Otis cut her off when he murmured with disbelief, “M-mate…”
The rest of us froze and turned to Otis whose gaze was fixed on one person in the room- the only person he had never met until now.
“Mate…” Came the response from no one else but Benji.
