                    ALPHA RAIDEN
I called everyone out, including the older kids.
Seeing everyone like this makes me realize that I have many people to protect-a whole lot and the numbers just increased earlier today.
As people settled in the Pack’s Square, I could see the white wolves, the Moon Stone members, and my pack members mixing. There was no segregation in any way and that was a good thing.
When I sensed that everyone was here, I walked to the front of the crowd with Seth who had been up all night and day with me. Andrew joined us as I briefed him about what happened at the borders earlier this morning before I sent the general message out to everyone who I could reach through the mind link.
Andrew had to inform the Moon Stone pack members and Susanna went to call on the White wolves.
“It’s official.” I started with that staring at the confused and anxious faces of the crowd. “We are at war and I need everyone in this pack to know that.”
The crowd began to murmur, the scent of their fear trickling my nostrils.
“There is no cause for alarm. Alarming you is not the reason for this gathering.” I uttered loudly. “Every member of Crescent Pack knows that we have been housing survivors of the war that Alpha Tristan and Lorraine have created across the realm. We have people from Moon Stone with us and the rare wolves from the extinct pack.”
I took a second break before I continued, “Not to say that we have no reasons to worry but together we can bring down the forces against us. Now for the second reason.”
Looking around, I made sure I got everyone’s attention before announcing, “We noticed some strange movements around the borders earlier this morning during patrol and we found-‘
“Spies? Are we under attack already, Alpha Lucas?” A concerned member of my pack asked.
Before I could respond, Seth breathed, “If you would just listen. Ask questions after the Alpha is done speaking.”
“That’s alright, Seth.” I cautioned my cranky Gamma before answering the questions that were thrown at me, “We aren’t under attack yet but we do have strangers lurking around our pack. However, they aren’t spies. They are survivors from various packs in the realm that escaped Black Fur tyranny. They have come seeking shelter and protection.”
“Wouldn’t it be dangerous to let them in? They could be undercover spies for the enemies.” Another person raised.
“It is dangerous, which is why we have spent hours preparing a safehouse for these people beside the borders. Although they are within the pack and need our help, they can’t venture into the main territory. Regardless, we all have a role to play. Train hard, look after one another and report any strange occurence doesn’t matter how small. Do I make myself clear?”
I got chorused answers and after Seth gave out a few safety tips, the crowd was dismissed. I stood there, watching everyone leave until my eyes found Fiona who was standing with her arms across her chest and her face red from what I perceived was rage.
“Oh, dear goddess. She’s going to kill you.” Lex winced within me and immediately shielded himself from whatever Fiona had planned by retreating to the deepest part of my mind.
I looked around and realized that I was alone. Seth and Andrew were gone as well, leaving me with my pissed mate.
Fiona stormed towards me while my legs refused to move despite the obvious danger. She seethed, a few feet away from me, “How dare you?”
“H-how dare-?W-what?” I stuttered, swallowing hard and praying that my legs would unfreeze.
But rather than answer my question, Fiona marched up to me, threw her hands around me, picked me off the floor like I was a piece of paper, and threw me on the floor like a sack of heavy grains.
“Argh…” I cried out, pain ripping through my back as I hit the floor. Hard.
Fiona looked down at my frame, unbothered about my pain, “How dare you leave without saying a word to me? How dare you ruin a great night by being stupid?”
“I-”
She shut me up, “Don’t even dare, Lucas. Don’t give me the crappy story of how you had to be at the border.” She scoffed as she asked, “Did you even get in bed last night? After I fell asleep?”
“Fiona-”
“I thought as much.” She whispered, her eyes blinking rapidly. “You make me sick.”
She turned away from me after she uttered those words bitterly. I struggled to get off the floor, running after her despite the eyes on us. “Relia, please wait.”
I held her arm but she yanked it off and continued walking, “So you can treat me even less than you already did? What’s wrong with you? We had an amazing night and I would be damned if I chase after you like the past-:
“This has nothing to do with the past, Fiona-”
“From my point of view, oh, it does look like you had sex with me and left me in the room like some doll and that screams PAST.” She gritted at me.
Fuck I hated this.
How could I have been stupid?
The least I could do was explain to her so I did even though I had to jog after her. “I was stupid. I was scared. I was-”
“Stupid? Of course, you are.” Fiona chimed. “Scared? Why the hell are you scared? Would it have killed you to spend the night holding me?”
I answered with certainty, “Yes, it would have killed me to get in bed with you knowing that I couldn’t mark you, Fiona.”
A freckle of realization glinted in her eyes but It was gone before It could spread and make her less angry. “We’ve spoken about this and I want you to mark me-”
“But I can’t do that. Not when I know I’ll die in that war, Fiona. I can’t do that to you.” I breathed and that halted her steps, her eyes finding mine.
It’s high time I told her the truth. I thought that would prepare her for the inevitable future but nothing prepared me for her response.
