Fiona
My hands shake visibly over the small white fabric I had laid on the floor of the purifying hut where I have been since Jeremy and I stopped training earlier this morning.
Jeremy believed that training with him in the morning and on the training ground while other warriors were training would be better and while he had shown me what he could do, I haven’t been able to empower any warrior… not even one.
And usually, when I’m done with Jeremy, I come straight to the purifying hut to train with Lori but for some reason, she wasn’t here when I got here over an hour ago.
I was alone.
And that gave me the chance to try out my experiment.
I found a fly outside the hut and decided to use it for my experiment. With one finger, I killed it carefully so as not to make the process of restoring its life harder than it already was.
I placed the fly on a white fabric and sat with it, my hands over it as I connected with the energy from the lake.
But after minutes of nothing, I knew I had failed again.
“Sorry, little fly,” I muttered to myself before taking my hands off the fly and just in time for Lori to enter the hut.
She looked at me suspiciously when she noticed the dead fly, “What are you doing this time, Fiona?”
“Nothing, just trying to practice with a fly since-”
“But that fly is dead. Nothing dead can be Mended.” Lori uttered with confidence. I didn’t bother to argue with her because I knew it wouldn’t end well. She announced, “Thankfully, I got some white wolves with training injury. They will be here soon. You can practice mending on them.”
“The few times I had done that, I only healed them. What is the secret to Mending?” I asked the older woman.
She looked at me and said, “The secret is to heal as many times as you can. Be a great Healer and Mending will come to you naturally. Also, get enough rest. How do you mend people when you aren’t whole yourself?”
I was about to argue with her but the last part of her statement made so much sense. Lori’s point was proven when I couldn’t heal the warriors who came to the purifying Lake without the use of the water because I was too tired from training with Jeremy.
Lori sent me home and warned me against showing up tomorrow if I didn’t rest well.
“Will I ever get this right?” I asked myself s I dragged my feet toward the apartment, hoping to rest for the rest of the day.
Inara chimed, “Perhaps we need to take it one at a time. You are losing strength faster than your body is creating it. I can barely keep your mind open these days.”
Of course, I noticed that Inara had been a lot less yappy and I was always tired no matter how many hours of sleep I got. “I can’t give up any one of the abilities.” I sighed to my wolf.
I wished I could just share this burden with someone-
“Hey, you are back early.” Lucas’s excitement was loud in his voice.
He was sitting in the living room with many papers scattered around him. I asked, “Alpha duties?”
“Yes, my love but it’s not something you should worry about. There is food in the kitchen for you-”
“Why don’t you tell me about it while I eat?
I knew what it felt like to be lonely and weighed down by responsibilities. I offered to listen to Lucas knowing I wanted the same thing- someone to share my burden with.
“It’s nothing serious. I was receiving the Pack’s account.” Lucas shrugged, offering to help me dish and heat my food so I could freshen up.
“Still sounds like there’s a problem to me.” I pointed to the small frown on his face.
Lucas rolled his eyes and explained, “Since the borders are closed, we haven’t been earning but we have been spending a lot of money. However, we have enough in savings so you don’t have to worry.”
I kissed his cheek before rushing to the bedroom. Within five minutes, I was back and my food was ready for consumption. I ate as much as possible before collapsing on the couch beside Raidedn and his papers.
“It’s your turn,” Lucas said. Confusion set on my face and he saw it. So he clarified, “It’s your turn to tell me why you came back early today.”
I shrugged, “It’s nothing. Lori sent me home because I was too tired and completely useless.”
Lucas played with my hair, dropping his papers to focus on me, “I like that but are you sure you are alright?”
“I’m not all right but I’ll be after I get some rest and I need to do that before Katie returns from training with Seth and Kyle from his daily trip to the Pack’s library,” I whined, twisting on the couch.
Lucas hauled me into his arms, saying, “When I mark you tomorrow, I’ll be able to take stress off you. You won’t feel alone anymore and yes, you should rest before the Ks return.”
Although my heart skipped to the thought of getting marked tomorrow, my mind skipped over to the part where I asked, ” What’s the Ks?”
“Katie and Kyle,” Lucas answered, looking at me like I was supposed to know that.
I laughed at the silly nickname. Lucas and I chatted for a while before I fell asleep in his arms and I had no worries until a familiar warrior showed up by the door, knocked, and woke me up just so he could say, “Apologies for the disturbance, Alpha and Luna but the spy from Black Fur tried to kill herself and I thought you would want to know.”
Honestly, I didn’t want to know. I wanted sleep but I still asked, “Where is she?”
“Still in her cell but with a healer.” The warrior answered.
“Led the way,” I said even though Lucas urged me to stay home while he handled Hazel.
But Insisted on seeing her again and getting this over with.
Yet, this was just the beginning of Hazel’s nuisance.
