                    Arthur's POV
"I know you two have a lot of questions for me, but I say let's save it for later. For now, let's prioritize my son's safe escape." He said. "And speaking of, where is he right now? I'm assuming you have your men already on the job." He added.
All I could do was nod before I took a deep sigh.
"I got his soul protector to lead the rescue mission while I distract all these f*ckers. Unfortunately, Azrael was clever enough to know what we're trying to do. He sent some of his minions to where my mate was supposed to make an exit. Now they're standing by inside as I sent a few more men to take those rogues down." I stated, making him nod his head, understanding the situation.
"It's good to know that Connor's his soul protector. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my son other than you and his known family." He said, causing me to frown mentally after noticing he knows who I'm talking about.
"How'd you know Connor?" I asked curiously.
"I've been watching my son closely ever since. And I had his brother look after him while he was in school. And he pretty much filled me in on everything that's going on with Ashley." He admitted. "Anyways, where is this exit route. I'll go and help them myself." He asked with a stern voice.
I remembered Dad saying he used to be the pack's Beta, but why is it that his aura's one of an Alpha? His build also screams power, so I highly doubt he's of a Beta blood.
"Chandler," I called through the link, immediately catching the third in command's attention.
"Yes, Alpha." He responded not long after.
"Come over here. I have someone here who wants to help with Ash's escape." Was all I said without telling him who it was.
"Alright, I'll be there in a sec." He said before we closed back the link.
And sure thing, not even a minute has passed and Chandler showed up in his wolf form. He stopped just right next to Matthias, patiently waiting for my orders.
"Take him there," I told Chandler as I motioned my head at Matthias.
The third in command nodded his head before turning to the said guy who's standing on his right.
Matthias gave a curt nod before turning to follow Chandler back into the woods and towards Ash's exit location. But before he could walk off, I stopped him with a question.
"You're an Alpha, are you?" I asked with Matthias' back facing me.
He looked over his shoulder with a blank look on his face.
"Let's discuss things after this is finally over. Like I said Alpha, my son is my topmost priority right now. And so should you." He said, causing a growl to vibrate from my chest.
That was an obvious disrespect to me, and I'm sure he knows how Alphas doesn't take being disrespected lightly.
Instead of apologizing, all he did was let out a small chuckle of amusement before he shifted back to his wolf form and went to follow Chandler. Once his figure was no longer in sight, I turned to look at Delsiah who pretty much had drool over his lips.
I shook my head.
"What? He was hot. I couldn't help it." He said defensively while giving me an innocent look.
Innocent my a*s.
"That was my mate's real father, Del. What the f*ck are you drooling over him for? He's probably in his late forties." I told him as I went to turn towards the still ongoing fight.
"Well, anyone with a d*ck that size is drool-worthy in my book." He said, making me turn to look at him like he's lost his mind.
He shrugged nonchalantly. "What? I'm just being honest. Remember, I'm gay. And anyone that has a nice eggplant between their legs is very attractive, well, besides you and any other guy in the pack that is, no offense. I've seen yours and every guy in the pack, but I'm not saying they're not impressive. It's just that, it's nothing new. I prefer one from outside the pack. Human's d*ck size is mediocre. But when we talk about from werewolves? Well, that's one hell of a good subject." He said sounding all carefree like we're not in a battle.
"Stop, Del. The last thing I want to hear right now is your traumatizing fantasies," I said, feeling a little disturbed from what he said. If it's true that he's seen everyone's d*ck in the pack, then that is just plain terrifying.
"Anyway, I've always known he wasn't a Beta. I just decided to shut my mouth and let him speak out about it himself. The only odd thing is, I was a bit confused why everyone in the pack back then didn't sense he was an Alpha. But then I figured he's been using a specific kind of spray to hide his Alpha scent as well as his different aura, while at the same time, changing his scent to one of a Beta." He admitted. "It was an ancient kind of ingredient, but for some reason, he knows how to make them. Even I don't have the knowledge of how to make such rare perfume." He added thoughtfully.
I quickly shifted back to my wolf form.
"Why didn't you tell Dad about this?" I asked as I looked over my shoulder.
He sighed. "Like I said, it wasn't my place to reveal it to Alpha Dominic. And after I found out the reason why Matthias decided to hide his true identity, it only solidified my resolve on not telling anyone." He stated with a serious look on his face.
"I respect that, Del. But a piece of information as important as this is something you should always tell your Alpha. You're the pack's anointed elder, you swore an oath to always speak the truth to your Alpha if it involves the pack's well being. What if Matthias happens to be untrustworthy and caused damage to the pack? The blame will be thrown to you." I lectured. I thought he should know better. He's much, much older than anyone in the pack. I thought he had all the wisdom and experiences he needs to be the best elder a pack could ever have.
"Well, for one, before I even agreed to let Matthias be a pack member and later on, be the pack's Beta, I already found out every single detail about him, with only the exception of those he hid inside the deepest parts of his mind that happens to be about his son. And in addition to that, one of the reasons why I didn't do what I was supposed to do was, this." He said as he motioned around us. "If I intervened with destiny and fate, a totally different path would have occurred and things would've happened very differently. We may have a chance to save your mate right now, but if things didn't happen as it should be, then who knows, maybe we already lost by now. With your mate gone along with your unborn child, it could've been game over." He stated. "You see, Arthur, when you intervene with what was destined to happen, things could end up badly, even a lot worse than what's happening right now in this open field." He added as he walked ahead of me, leaving me behind feeling a little dumbfounded with his outburst.
Well, lesson learned. Never question an elder as special as Delsiah. He was indeed gifted for a purpose, and I have no right to question that.
"I'm sorry." I apologized feeling ashamed that I kind of disrespected him as an elder. I may be his Alpha, but I have no right to disrespect him.
"It's fine." Was all he said, which instantly tells me he's still upset.
I couldn't blame him though. He had all the right to be upset..
"Let's just get this thing done and over with. I need to have a serious talk with your mate about some very important stuff." He said as he finally went back on exterminating rogues and hunters.
I sighed mentally. I know better not to push it further with Delsiah. He's still one of us, he'll still run out of patience if we ever dared to test him, even with all the wisdom he had.
"Alright, but how will we know we're killing rogues and hunters, and not Night Spring pack members?" I asked even when I already know the answer. I just want to make sure Delsiah and I are on good terms even after the obvious disrespect that I just did.
"The red eyes. The difference between a rogue and a sane werewolf is the eyes. If they're not red, they're obviously not a rogue. While as for hunters, well, you'll know a hunter when you see one." He said sassily, letting me know he's indeed mad at me.
Great job for me. Not!
"Awesome. Let's get to killing then." I said with fake enthusiasm.
>We'll do such a great job, I'm sure.< Zion also commented, which made me one to just slap myself in the face.
He can be such an idiot.
"I know what you're doing Zion and Arthur. You two better stop it or I'll paralyze you as well along with this muts." He said warningly, making me wince internally.
That doesn't sound great to me at all.
"Good. So stop it before I lost my patience." He said after reading my thoughts.
Without uttering a reply, we went back to the fight with Delsiah standing next to me. Since Matthias decided to come and aid us, he somehow took some of the stress from my shoulder and made this battle a little easier for us.
After my fifth kill and taking down a rogue by ripping its head from its body, I made sure to check on Delsiah to see if he's doing alright. There I saw him handling three fully grown rogues at ones which are twice his size like it was nothing. Paralyzing them first before snapping their necks simultaneously. If I didn't know him and he happens to be with the enemy, I would've been scared sh*tless after finding out I have to deal with him. But since he's with me, I only have the Goddess to thank for. With him possessing all these unbelievable gifts, I knew he'll be more than just fine.
Going back to dealing with the rogues in front of me, I stood just right behind Delsiah to make sure no one attacks him from where he couldn't see. Even when I know his senses are more sensitive than all of us, I still made sure, just in case Azrael ordered these pests to target him instead of me.
He's powerful and very valuable. And since Delsiah's with me, that makes him a target.
Watching the rogues in an aggressive stance in front of me, I made sure to study their every move and how they interact with each other. They're rogues but I know they communicate the same way as sane wolves do, which is by mind link.
As the rogue on the right side of my peripheral vision decided to attack, I retaliated by slapping it with my paw, powerful enough to send it flying towards its fellow rogues. After that, two more decided to attack seeing as I had my attention on the earlier rogue. They lept into the air with one landing on my back, while the other going straight for my neck. The rogue latching behind me, locked its mouth onto my shoulder, making me wince a little from the sting. The other one went to bite me near the neck but failed after I caught it first before it can do any damage to me. I shook my head violently, snapping the pathetic rogue's neck satisfyingly. Once I dropped the lifeless body to the ground, I went to dealing with the one still latching on to my back. I grabbed it by its back legs and pulled it from me, causing it to peel away some of my flesh.
The pain was almost unbearable but I decided to shake it off. Throwing the rogue who managed to injure me, I growled as I showed my teeth towards them.
"Arthur, you're hurt." Delsiah pointed out the obvious.
"I know, Del. Don't worry about me, I'm fine," I replied dismissively.
"No, you're not." He argued.
"I'm fine. Just keep them at bay, and I'll do the same. Make sure you stay behind me." I told him commandingly.
"Says the one who's injured. You stay behind me." He said using a stern tone to his voice.
"Delsiah, I have no time to argue," I spoke breathlessly.
"And so do I. Now don't be a f*cking stubborn a*s Alpha and just listen to what I say. You're hurt and you can't tell me otherwise." He argued once again, making me sigh internally.
With one more sigh, I finally gave up. I'm stubborn, I admit, but he can be even more stubborn than I am.
"Fine." Was all I said as I made sure to be standing behind the elder.
"Just take down those you can. Don't push yourself much further or else you'd end up dead along with those we just killed." He warned, making me roll my eyes. I'm hurt, yes, but I'm not that hurt.
"I'm not disabled, you know. I can still fight. I'm an Alpha, I'm a lot stronger than you think." I told him.
"And I'm not saying you're not. It's just that, if ever something bad happens to you, your mate will be devastated. So you should always keep that in mind. You still have an unborn child to raise. Man up and stop being so reckless. Just because you know you have the strength doesn't mean you can abuse it to your liking. As an Alpha, you should know when to use your intelligence over your pride and ego. You know better than that, Arthur." He lectured, sounding like my mother.
"Well, if you end up dying on me, your mother will make sure to kill you further for being such reckless little brat." He added, reading my thoughts once again.
"Now man up." He yelled before shutting the link once more.
Connor's POV
Out of all times, Ash decided to pass out right now. I mean, I know he's exhausted and everything, but he could at least kept himself awake. I know I sound inconsiderate, but I'm just looking after his safety. It's a lot easier to maneuver around with him fully conscious. Also, with him being awake, it'll be easy for me to know what he's feeling. Whereas when he's out cold, I couldn't communicate with him using our personal link because I'm always closed off.
"Ash, please wake up," I called once again through our link.
And like what's been the same result as earlier attempts, I received nothing for a reply. I know something was wrong with him because before even when he's deeply asleep, I could still feel some of what he was feeling. But right now, I couldn't feel anything other than his soft and steady heartbeat along with his unborn pup.
I could be overthinking things but I just can't shrug it off. What if something is definitely wrong with him? What am I suppose to do?
There's only one person I know who can get into someone's thoughts.
"Elder, I can't feel Ash. He's passed out and breathing fine as well as his baby but I couldn't feel anything other than that from him." I called the elder.
A moment later, Delsiah responded back.
"Calm down, Connor. He could just be resting. There's no need to panic." He said a bit breathless.
I frowned at how he sounded.
"Is everything alright out there, Del?" I asked after I suddenly had a bad feeling.
"Arthur's wounded but he's alright. One rogue just made a huge damage on him. But it's nothing he can't handle." He said reassuringly. "Anyway, I went to check in on Ash inside his head and found him talking to someone. Is there something you're not telling me, Connor?" He asked sounding suspicious.
I almost laughed at how he sounded. If this was a different circumstance, I would have.
"He's probably talking to his wolf." Was what I said, which I was certain Delsiah raised a brow at.
"His wolf?" He asked back, sounding unsure he heard me correctly.
"Yeah, his wolf Ariah, I thought you already know?" I said in confirmation.
"I didn't." He responded, causing me to frown.
"But I thought you can feel him since he's finally in close proximity?"
"Well, something happened a few hours ago. Remember when we tried to track Ash's location and I somehow couldn't find him? Just earlier when I was still back at the pack lands, I suddenly had a strong surge of energy coming from somewhere. And when I tried to track it down, that's where I found Arthur in the middle of the battle. And then I figured it's where Azrael was hiding Ash. That strong surge of energy was very familiar and right then and there, I knew it was Ash. But it was just a couple of seconds before it vanished, and after that, I couldn't feel him again. And only about two hours ago was when I was able to feel Ash." He explained.
"Two hours ago? That's when he passed out." I stated, now in complete confusion.
"What happened before he turned unconscious?" He questioned, eager to know.
"Well, long story short, during the time he gave his full control to his wolf, it kinda got into deep blood lust that it saw everyone as a threat. When it tried to attack us, Ash forced himself to gain back control and that's when he told me he couldn't feel his wolf. And after that, he passed out. He also told me that it hasn't been a full day since he found out about his wolf." I explained clearly to him.
He hummed thoughtfully.
"That just fits perfectly why I felt that strong energy surge from a few hours ago. I'm guessing it was when he met his wolf. But since he's still under Azrael's little trick of concealing spell, that's the reason why I couldn't feel him again. Or I could be wrong. I still can't figure out why I'm only able to feel Ash just two hours ago after he went unconscious." He said sounding confused.
"What if it's his wolf's doing?" I suggested.
Since Ash is pretty much a demigod who still hasn't discovered his gifts, what if concealing himself from everyone was one of them. If Azrael can do it, so maybe Ash and his wolf can too.
"What are you saying?" Delsiah asked curiously.
"Ash is a demigod, right? So what if it's his wolf that's keeping Ash concealed, even from Azrael. You said he may still be under that devil's spell, but what if Ariah locked Azrael out as well as everyone including you?" I said.
"You might be right. It could be Ash's wolf's doing why I couldn't sense him. But that also just mean, if I can feel Ash, so can Azrael." He said in fearful realization. "He may not be sure where you guys are earlier, but now, he might be. You need to get out of there Connor. And fast." He warned.
"F*ck." I cursed under my breath, catching Winter's attention who's eyes are still glued to the phone screen, looking at the surveillance camera for the rogues guarding outside the exit where we're supposed to step out from.
"What?" Winter asked, looking worried all of a sudden.
"I have to go, Connor. The rogues' numbers don't seem to diminish. I'll let Arthur know about what I found out about his mate, but don't let Ash know Arthur's hurt when he wakes up. We don't want any more stress on him than he already has." Delsiah said before cutting off our communication.
"Connor, what's wrong?" Winter asked once again.
I went to meet his gaze.
"Delsiah warned me about us not being safe here anymore," I stated as I looked around the men who went with us. The maintenance room kind of gave us a temporary safe space after finding out rogues are guarding the exit route we're supposed to use to escape.
"But how? We don't have any other option for escape here. If we step out of that door then we'll have to face all those guys and be greatly outnumbered. And if we went with the original plan, we'll still have to face all the twenty-five rogues guarding the exit way." Winter said worriedly as he summed up all our available options.
"We came here to rescue Alpha Arthur's mate. I think it's time we complete this mission." Trevor said as he looked around his fellow warrior wolves.
"It'd be a huge honor for me to be one of the weres who rescued the mate of the Most powerful pack." A warrior wolf said as he looked at a passed out Ash.
"Me too." Another one said and then followed by another until all five of them said the same.
"I wouldn't mind risking my life if it's for the greater good. Azrael is the enemy, which makes him the enemy of us all." Trevor said with a calm look on his face.
I went to meet Winter's eyes and saw him slowly tearing up.
"I wasn't able to save Ash the first time, but I'll make sure not to fail him this time." He said as a tear fell from his eyes.
"It's all up to you Connor, we follow your orders, so what's it going to be?" Trevor said patiently.
"This is not my decision to make, okay. I also take orders from my Alpha." I said dismissing all their thoughts of pretty much just going all out and attacking all those pesky rogues to get Ash into safety.
"But he's busy distracting everyone in the battlefield just so we can complete this mission. Twenty-five rogues won't bring us down, instead, we'll make sure we bring them down." Trevor said determinedly. "My men are well trained. They're battle-hardened as well, so I'm confident to say we'll manage to get out." He added.
"I know Trevor. I'm not questioning your men's capabilities. The only thing I'm worried about is what if Azrael had something else planned. What if those twenty-five rogues visible in the surveillance cameras aren't it? What if there's more of them hiding, waiting to ambush us?" I stated, causing him to nod understandingly.
"You do have a point." He said.
"If we want to get out of here with little to no casualties in the group, we have to outsmart Azrael. The only problem is, how? We lost all possible options of escape and now the only thing we can do is ask either Linux or Arthur for aid. And since Arthur already sent a few men on the way, the only thing we can do right now is to wait till they show up in the camera's view. By the time it happens, we will move and join them exterminate all these pests." I spoke in anger as I softly took a stray hair that covered Ash's eyelids.
"Our Alpha said he's sent eight more men for aid," Trevor said, making me look up at him.
"Uh, speaking of, I think it's them," Winter said as he turned the phone's display towards us, showing what was happening on the other side.
Trevor frowned. "I don't think they're a pack member of ours." He said as he turned to me. "Are they from yours?" He added.
I frowned as well upon realizing they're not from Arthur's pack. "No, they're not from us."
"Wait, what?" Winter asked in confusion. "If they're not from either of your packs then who and where are they from?"
"They don't seem familiar to me," Trevor commented.
"Me too," I commented as well.
"They're attacking the rogues. Oh, and they're killing them quite brutally too." Winter stated as he turned the phone's screen back to us.
There we all saw how these unknown weres attack and kill rogues like they were merely a pesky mosquito. And Winter was right, the way how they kill rogues was brutal. If ripping one's already dead body to shreds isn't brutal then I don't know what is. Just like what Ariah did to those who tried to attack him earlier.
"What do you think we should do?" Winter asked. "I don't think they're with Azrael with how brutal they're killing his minions." He added in.
"But what if it's just one of Azrael's little trick. Remember, he doesn't care who he kills as long as he gets what he wants. They could be his allies for all we know." I said warily as I kept my gaze on the screen.
When one by one, members of Linux and Arthur's pack showed up and fought side by side with the unknown clan of weres, that's when Trevor and I looked at each other in obvious confusion.
"What? What's going on?" Winter asked, turning the phone's display to him.
"Members from both Arthur and Linux's pack came and now both packs are fighting with those weres we don't know about," I said, causing Winter's gaze to meet mine.
"Then what should we do?" He asked.
I turned to Trevor and met his fellow warrior wolves' gazes. "Like what Trevor said earlier, let's finish the job."
And with that, the bulky guy nodded his head in determination along with his men.
"Let's do it," Trevor said, and with that, we were off.
After opening the latch heading to the sewers, we slowly trickled in one by one. Making sure Ash is in the middle to keep him safe, I led the way with two more men trailing behind.
As we went closer to the exit way, the cries of pain from the rogues became louder and louder by the second. And when we finally made it to the edge, the ongoing fight came into view. Lifeless bodies of rogues littered the forest ground. I also saw a few fallen pack members from both Linux and Arthur's laying alongside the rogues as well as a few from the mystery pack.
Once they exterminated all the rogues, one naked guy, covered in blood went straight towards us and stopped only after Trevor and his men barricaded him from going closer to Ash.
"I need to see my son." The guy said in a deep gruff voice.
I frowned as I stood in front of the warrior wolf who's holding Ash securely.
"Your son?" I asked just as gruffly.
"I'm Matthias, Ash's father." The guy said visibly catching me off guard.
This was his real father. The guy who got the Moon Goddess impregnated and ran away after finding out what he did. And now he decided to show up? What kind of a father is he for abandoning his responsibility like that?
"All I know is that Ben is Ash's real father," I commented. "How could you call yourself a father if you abandoned him even before he was born?" I was going to say more but decided not to, considering such information is so valuable that anyone could take an interest in it.
"You know nothing of what really happened, pup." He said sternly, causing my ear to tick from the way he called me.
"What did you just call me?" I asked as red slowly seeped into my vision.
Suddenly, a low chuckle echoed around the forest, catching everyone's attention, including Matthias.
"This is very entertaining." A voice spoke in amusement. But for some reason, we couldn't pinpoint where it's coming from. It was like it's coming from everywhere.
And out of nowhere, a dark figure slowly immerged from the confines of a large tree, just across the small river. There I realized who it was. None other than the devil himself, Azrael.
"Huddle close everyone. Make sure to protect Ash at all costs." Matthias ordered and everyone followed.
That only intensified Azrael's chuckles to a full-on laugh.
"Oh please, did you really think you can keep your precious little Ash away from me, huh, Matthias?" Azrael said as he stood by the edge of the river. "I've searched all over for you and yet here you are, showing up right inside my very turf," Azrael added looking all amused as he paced back and forth.
"You better leave my son alone, you f*cking b*tch," Matthias said through gritted teeth, telling all of us he's very angry.
Well, he should be.
"Aww that's sweet, but no. I need your son for something very important." Azrael pointed out. "You see, your precious little Ash possesses something that the Gods took away from me, and I want it back. Only your son fits all the descriptions I need to finally gain what I want back. So, let's make a deal, shall we?" Azrael said in a sickeningly sweet manner.
Matthias along with his men growled menacingly at Azrael, causing me to growl at the devil as well.
"Oh, okay, we're not making a deal. That's fine by me." Azrael said playfully with amusement visible in his dark eyes. "But still, I'm going to get what I want. I always do." He stated. "What about this, instead of making a deal with you, why don't I make a deal with everyone in here? Sounds good?" He paused as he grinned evilly at all of us. "Whoever gives me Ash will be granted the same eternal life as I do. And for better understanding, I'll explain why. The person standing before you with the name of Matthias proudly impregnated the Moon Goddess who came down to Earth about twenty years ago, which resulted in Ash's birth. Which means..." He trailed off.
"He's a part God." A guy from Linux's pack answered causing everyone to turn to look at him.
That doesn't look good. Azrael's doing this to get inside our heads. He's doing this on purpose to divide us.
"Bingo." He exclaimed. "Which also means he's born with the gift of immortality. And since all of his undiscovered powers will soon be transferred to me, whoever hands me little Ash will also be granted one of his powers included with the gift of immortality. And to make everything much better. The person who manages to give me what I want will also have a place beside me as I soon take over this sad, sad planet." He paused with an evil glint in his eyes. "So, who's it gonna be?" He asked with a wide smile knowing he managed to get into some of these guy's heads, corrupting them in the process.
Slowly, one by one, pack members turned their attention to a still unconscious Ashley, making me curse under my breath.
This doesn't look good at all.
