Amidst the chaos that reigned in my mind, I forgot about one important fact.
“ Where were you? ” Aiden seethed as soon as I stepped out on the porch to get some fresh air.
I turned my head and found him leaning against the pillar in the corner, his red-rimmed eyes glaring daggers at me.
My lips tipped up, “ where do you think I was? ”
Like an angry bull, he charged at me. I faced his coming figure, readying myself for the furious attack but a pair of arms slid around his waist and stopped him a few steps away from me.
“ Aiden, please! Please, don’t hurt her. ” Emily cried out, putting out her favorite innocent act.
I folded my arms across my chest, gazing at Aiden’s flaring nose and darkening eyes.
“ Let me go. ” Aiden softened his voice towards her, and attempted to break free but she held him tight.
“ No, please. Alpha King will be enraged if he finds out what’s going on under this roof. He will have Zia killed for her infidelity. ” She peeked around Aiden’s arm, shooting me a smug look.
I couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled out of my throat. Aiden growled, his eyes switching colors as he tried to free himself from her again.
“ You dare laugh after what you did, Zia! ”
I sniffled and tilted my head, assessing the lovers before me. “ This is- - -just too amusing for me. ”
“ You cheated on me! That’s funny to you?! ” Aiden finally broke free of Emily or she let him go, knowing this was the right time because she played her kind act already.
He lunged at me and paused a breath away when I didn’t react to his threatening stance.
“ Lay a single finger on me and your mistress will have to watch how pathetic of a fighter you are. ” I mouthed, a grin settling on my lips.
Aiden towered over me, his quick breaths hitting my face. He took a step closer but didn’t hit me or say anything for a long time.
His anger shifted into another, unrecognizable emotion. He trailed his eyes down my body. His stare lingered on my lips and neck, searching for the signs of last night’s events before he looked back into my eyes.
“ Zia, why are you provoking your Alpha? Why must you hurt him like this? ” Emily sniffled, appearing beside Aiden to grab his arm and break the staring contest between us.
“ Who was it? ” Aiden shook her off to my surprise, and gripped my upper arms, tugging me to my chest. “ Tell me! ”
I stared into his eyes, a calmness spreading in my chest. “ Now I can finally see it. ”
“ I am going to murder that motherfucker before dragging you back home and making you pay- - - ”
“ It hurt a lot, didn’t it? ” I whispered, cutting off his angry words.
Aiden paused mid-sentence and searched my eyes. I had always seen him acting high and mighty even in the presence of enemies.
He was a man from the Caine family- - -the first clan blessed with the ability to shift into a wolf by the Moon Goddess. Aiden always liked to flaunt that fact, because he felt privileged.
But right now, he looked like a panicking man with his red eyes, his out-of-control breathing, and his trembling hands.
“ Who was it? ” He leaned down and hissed each word against my lips.
My lips curled into a lazy smirk. “ I don't remember. ”
“ Zia, don’t do this! Do you have any idea how Aiden ran around the whole Packhouse in the middle of the night looking for you?! How could you- - -you break his heart like this? ” Emily sobbed when she noticed our proximity.
I applauded her efforts in my head, and my smirk widened. “ and what was he doing before he had to run around the whole packhouse looking for me? Fucking you? Are you angry because I cock-blocked you, Aiden? ”
“ Shut up! ” He yelled in my face, veins popping in the side of his face. “ You Bitch, how fucking- - - ”
“ Shh! ” I raised my hand and pressed my forefinger against his lips.
He stiffened, his gaze lowering to my finger, then rising to my eyes. I watched as his Adam’s apple bobbed uneasily.
“ Don’t bark, Aiden. You don’t want the Alpha King to hear us, right? ” I smiled sweetly.
The pain and anger in his eyes was a soothing balm. The nervousness of his mistress increased the satisfaction tenfold.
This felt like a cliche novel plot. The main character was suddenly attracted to the woman he was cheating on because he couldn’t bear seeing another man with her.
“ He is someone from this Pack. Do you think I can not find him? ” Aiden seethed and tightened his grip on my arms.
“ What do you think will happen when you find him? Tell Alpha King that you want to kill his Pack member? ” I snickered.
He knew he couldn’t do that.
“ You have no fucking shame! ” Aiden gritted his jaw.
Shame? He thought he could talk about shame?
My heartbeat quickened as anger started blinding me.
“ I only gave you the taste of your medicine. Now what? You can’t handle it? You were showing me the images of your fun time with your mistress. You were hurting me day and night. Now suddenly, you want to talk about shame? ” I grabbed his collar and pulled his head down. “ look here, Aiden Caine. You were the one who started this and now, you will regret every moment you tried to hurt me! ”
His grip loosened on my arms. He could only act like an Alpha until I was not fighting back.
I couldn’t believe that I mated with this pathetic man!
“ She is my fated mate. ” He muttered.
“ And how do you know this mystery man is not my fated mate? ” I dropped the cold words, letting them sink in.
Aiden’s eyes widened, his hand shaking around my biceps. When I saw the panic in his eyes, I realized one thing.
He was not panicking because he thought I would go to another man.
He was panicking because he must still want me to handle the Pack matters, act as his proxy, do all the work, and let him take the credit while he busies himself fucking his fated mate.
“ There is no way that’s- - - ”
“ How are you sure? ” I scoffed, jerking my arms free of his hold. My gaze flickered towards Emily. “ You found your fated mate. I can do the same. That way, while you continue to hurt me, I can do the same to you! ”
He was speechless. He opened his mouth one moment, then closed it without saying a word to me.
We stared each other down, a bomb ticking between us. It could explode any moment, and bring the destruction I feared.
“ Aiden. ” Emily whispered, desperately clinging to his arm, to divert his attention back to herself.
I shook my head and turned back towards the entrance. “ from now on, expect payback for everything you do. ”
“ I can reject you and you will be nothing without me! No pack, no position, nothing! ” He hissed, making me halt in my way.
My body froze, my hands clenching by my side. “ You will do what? ”
“ You have nothing, Zia Caine. Without me, you will be nothing. Do you want that? ” Aiden lowered his voice as if he no longer needed to shout to get his words through.
He thought he was back in power now.
“ Now you are realizing what- - - ”
I stared at the packhouse and sighed. “ Go ahead. Do it. ”
“ What? ” His voice rose again, betraying the shock.
“ I said- - - ” I shot him a glance over my shoulder. “ Reject me, if you dare. That way- - - the destruction of the werewolves will be on you. ”
Silence fell between us. It was uncomfortable for him, but a sign of victory for me.
He knew what I was talking about and he knew what responsibility he would shoulder if he rejected me.
I smiled and approached him again. Emily held onto him tightly, refusing to back down.
I glanced at her nervous face, then looked at Aiden who was as still as a statue. His poor face was turning pale.
Maybe, I should tease him a bit more.
I stepped closer and reached out to cup his cheek. Aiden gasped, a shudder running down his body at my touch.
I lifted myself on my toes, leveling my lips against his, so he could feel every word deep in his bones. “ Or the better option is- - - ”
“ Zia. ” Aiden breathed, his hands landing on the small of my back instinctively.
“ You can ditch Emily and come back to me, hm? ” I offered, eyeing Emily’s wide eyes, and then Aiden’s nearing lips.
Being with his Uncle was not enough. He should feel what it was like to make someone believe you love them, only to tell them you are a fool later.
And as Aiden’s hands slid up, stopping just beneath my breasts, I saw the way I still affected him.
“ Alpha King wants you in the conference room. ” A sudden voice interrupted our moment.
Aiden snapped his head up, looking behind me. “ Me? ”
“ Yes. ” The deep voice replied curtly.
Aiden glanced back at me, his gaze lowering to my parted lips. “ Wait for me right here. ”
“ Alpha wants the Luna of the Silver Heart Pack to accompany you, Aiden. ” The man behind me said.
Aiden’s eyes darkened on me. “ what- - - ”
“ Oh, I called the Council Meeting and the Alphas were generous enough to accept my request. ” I grinned, showing him all my malicious intents with a simple gesture.
