Stretching I move to the window to pull back the curtains, the bright late morning light shining in and bathing me with warmth. Today was going to go my way, I knew it. I would finally get what I deserved.
My mind fleetingly went to the old woman but she had never liked me, not even when I was a child, she had watched me as if I was trouble, I snorted to myself, well, she wasn't laughing now.
I checked my phone, I was waiting for Caroline to let me know what was going on, I knew she had reached the island and was going to transfer the funds into our new accounts but it hadn't happened yet and she had gone silent since she had messaged to say she thought someone was watching her.
I refused to let my mind believe she had betrayed me, there must be a reason for it. My mind went to the gossip I had heard yesterday. The Breitmeyers were in town yesterday to inspect their property. I know very soon they would know it wasn't theirs that's why I had removed my wretched cousin from her house. Not that I expected she would give them the time of day, after the letters and emails Caroline sent I was sure my dear cousin would probably call the police on them if they tried to contact her, but I needed time to get hold of Caroline and this would focus everyone's attention on finding her and leave me free.
I chuckled to myself wondering if they knew yet she had vanished and knowing they would never think to look for her where I had left her. Lets hope Caroline contacted me soon and I could get out of this godforsaken place and somewhere warm with my millions. Again I snorted to myself at the thought of me on a warm beach while my cousin froze or starved chained to a wall. That would teach the spoilt bitch.
Humming I moved around the flat getting ready to go into town, I had finished all the whiskey and should probably get some food too. My gaze fell on the watch on the dresser, Caroline would love it and I had taken it for her, The gold and diamond Cartier watch glinting in the sunlight and I wondered if I should gift wrap it for her, could I find a suitable box, its a pity, maybe I could sneak back into the house and get the original. No that was too risky now. I stroke a finger across it as I think of how I had found it on Mairead's wrist as I had put the cuffs on her, that was a bonus I wasn't expecting.
Grinning again, I grab my keys and jacket and head out the door, heading up the hill towards the new supermarket, less chance of the nosy locals gossiping there.
