Beep... Beep... Beep... Beep... Beep... Beep...
That damn sound was like a pulse banging on my mind.
Beep... Beep... Beep... Beep... Beep... Beep...
I felt my body coming back to me and it hurt, everything hurt, my body felt so heavy, I just could move and my eyes felt glued shut.
Beep... Beep... Beep... Beep... Beep... Beep...
I try to open my eyes and blink hard at the bright lights, groaning as it shoots pain through my skull.
Beep... Maisie! Beep... Maisie! Beep... Beep... please beep baby beep come beep back beep to beep us beep...
I struggle again to focus and could make out two blurred figures hovering.
"Maisie please baby, come on, it's time to wake up now, come on"
I focused towards the sound and croak out "lights... too bright" I hear movement and then feel someone take my hands... no two someone's.
"What?" I croak out again trying to open my eyes.
"Thank God, your awake" I hear him say but my head is still fuzzy. I blink to clear my eyes.
"Angus, call Bishop and Mary" the voice says and I realise its Hector. "Open baby" he orders and I feel icy wetness along my lips, I open, allowing the small chip to fall in, feeling the relief it brings. My gaze takes them in, its still a little fuzzy around the edges and I feel as if every part of my body hurts, so I remain as still as I can, my eyes tracking them.
"More" I whisper and hear them both chuckle. He gives me another ice chip and I listen as Angus calls Bishop, then Mary, re-assuring them I have woken up and saying see you soon.
The entrance of a doctor and nurse makes them back away from the bed as they check me over, the doctor asking questions I try to answer. He's talking at me, questioning me... I know its his job but he's too loud and I hate the nurse poking at me. "Please" I hold up my hand towards the twins.
"Baby?" Hector gets to me first, his gaze searching mine.
"Its too loud" I whisper out and he nods, keeping hold of my hand before turning to the doctor.
"Commander Fraser is on his way, perhaps if you have finished your initial check we can let her rest until he gets here" he says quietly and the doctor nods.
"I will be back soon" he tells me backing away and taking the nurse with him and its peaceful except for the sound of the machines.
"Baby" I hear Angus say and I look at him "How are you really feeling, you gave us quite a scare" and I can see how shaken they both look.
"What happened?" I whisper out, then panic hits me "Mary?"
"Hey, please baby, breath, it's okay, Mary is okay, I promise she will be here soon to see you, she is coming in with Bishop" Angus rushes out taking my hand in his as Hector moves to the other side of the bed and takes the other.
Their presence soothes me and I try to relax back "Tell me"
"I think we should wait for Bishop to get here, but I will tell you its over now" Hector says, gently rubbing my hand in his.
The door flying open makes me gasp and jump and the twins are on their feet to protect me before we all realise it was Mary. "Bishop is talking to the doctor" she told the twins, brushing past them to come to my side, pulling me into a hug and I could feel the tears welling.
She pulled back a little and looked down at me "Oh my child, I'm so glad you're safe" her hands cup my face tilting it up and I groan a little at the ache from my wound.
"Oh baby, i'm going to string the little sod up by his balls and whack him with a lump of wood" Mary mutters, releasing me. I see for the first time that she too has a dressing over a wound on her head.
"Mary?" I whisper out my eyes on the white square, but my voice giving away my fear.
"Its okay child, its a little bruised but all surface, Bishop has made sure I am taking it easy" she promises and I nod, but she knows I am still worried. "I promise I am not going anywhere, I want to see you married and bounce your little ones on my knee before I move on" she jokes softly.
I see the twins exchange a grin over her head and start to shake my head at them, stopping as the case makes me groan. Both twins instantly back at my side, checking me over.
"Are you doctors?" Mary snaps at them.
"No ma'am" Hector responds looking back at her.
"Then let her go boy" Mary instructs "And get the real doctor in here"
"Yes Ma'am" Angus replies with a grin leaving me with Hector and Mary.
"Are you sure you are okay... I can't lose you" I whisper out and she nods, squeezing my hand in support, she knows how much she means to me.
Angus return with Bishop and the Doctor, Hector immediately telling him I was in pain every time I moved my head.
"Do you want them to leave the room while I check?" the Doctor had asked and a chorus of growls had been the response so I had said they could stay. They all watched silently as the Doctor checked the wound and run me through some reaction tests before he stepped back.
"You are a very lucky young lady, if they hadn't found you when they did, this may be a different story. The wound is healing nicely but you will feel some discomfort until it's a bit further along, we can manage that with medication. You lost a lot of blood but we've managed to get that all back to normal in the time you've been in here..." he stops as I raise my hand.
"How long?" I croak out.
"Two weeks" Bishop answers for him "You've been here two weeks" and I can hear the pain in his voice.
I reach out my hand to him "Bishop, oh god i'm sorry" I say knowing he would have been so worried about me, he always worried about me. with his hand in mine, I focussed back on the doctor "What happens now?"
"Once you are off the machines, up and about and managing the basics food, bathroom and staying awake and cognisant, then we can see about discharging you, at least two days through" he tells me and I nod carefully.
"Thank you" I whisper out, settling back and closing my eyes for a few seconds.
"I will check in with you later and will organise a nurse to come and unhook you" he tells me before leaving us.
I open my eyes and look at Bishop "What happened... please Bishop, I need to know" I tell him as I can see the indecision in his face.
Bishop perches on the side of the bed, Hector having pulled a Chair up for Mary, leans against the wall, Angus at his side. He tells me everything they have found out, what they did and how they found me.
"I couldn't have done it without them, without their resources, I may not have been in time..." he finishes, looking back at me "They have been here at your side since you came in, and much as I hate to admit it, they care and I think they would be worthy of you"
I see the twins straighten in surprise and both flush at his words "We won't let you down" Angus tells him.
"If you do, I have a lot of places to hide a body" he warns them, causing Mary to chuckle as she wipes away a stray tear.
"Don't I get a say in this?" I ask looking between them all.
"No" Mary says firmly, making all the boys laugh even as Bishop tells me "of course"
The twins come forward "Please give us a chance"
"You live hundreds of miles away, you are busy flying all over the world, how could this work?" I tell them voicing my doubts to the whole room.
"Mai, do you like them?" Bishop asked me softly and I bite my lips before nodding once "Then take it day by day" he suggests and leans in to kiss my forehead before getting back up. "Mary is going to keep you company for a while, I need your twins for a bit"
My eyes flash up to his, was he going to scare them off? "Relax we just need to work out some legal stuff over the land" he laughs seeing my reaction.
"We'll be back soon baby" Hector gently kisses my lips before pulling back to let Angus do the same.
"We promise" Angus says as they leave with Bishop.
"Phew, that was hot" Mary laughs, taking my hand in her's "They are perfect for you, always knew one man would never be enough, now those twins, ay, ay, ay. I bet they know how to make you smile!" she adds.
"Mary!" I say shocked my face heating at her implications.
