Cream Knows Best - Chapter 31: Chapter 31

Cream's P.O.V
We were all worried about Mr. Espio. When Charmy and Tails set up their stuff in my room, I saw a large rain cloud over Charmy's head. Raindrops looked like they were about to fall out at any moment, lightning bolts starting to flash. "Hey, you know Mr. Espio will get better." I comforted. "I know but- I'm scared! What if he doesn't? It'd be all our fault! Mostly mine! I'm the one who suggested going out in the forest!" he cried. "No, it's not. I'm the one who didn't hold the lights up for us. Otherwise Cream could've seen where she was going." Tails replied.
"It's my fault too. I wasn't paying attention. Instead, he took the fall for me. Even if we feel bad, we shouldn't be so harsh with ourselves. Mr. Espio wouldn't want that after everything." Both looked very upset still, so I gave them the biggest hugs. "Thanks for being here with us Cream." Charmy said, hugging me. "No problem Charmy! We're all friends forever!" I replied, smiling.
Once I felt like everything had calmed down, I decided we needed some snacks. "You guys wait here! I'm going to get some food so we can munch!" I said and skipped out of the room. They nodded their heads as I skipped out of the room to head towards the kitchen. I gathered all the food we liked and began to walk back to my bedroom. "What if he doesn't recover? What if that injury only got worse?" The question caught me off guard so I went to go check on what it was. "It's going to get better. You can't sit there and expect the worse to happen. Espio isn't a normal chameleon after all. He'll pull through." I heard Mr. Shadow say. "He wouldn't be out there if it wasn't for me. After all, when he gets upset, he just leaves and tries to be alone. That's what he did when we were kids. Every time we had a disagreement or an argument, he'd just disappear. So he did it again. And now, he's in a hospital not knowing what's going to happen."
The tone in Mr. Vector's voice was grave. I could tell he was upset. I wonder why he and Mr. Espio didn't see each other the same. "You couldn't feel the same, Espio respects that. Even if he's upset, he knows you never wanted to hurt him. It just takes time. I know when I got rejected, I felt nothing but pain. But now... I'm slowly starting to move forward. It still hurts... but either way, I know I can't whine about it forever." Mr. Shadow sighed. "I only wish I could have sort of guide to tell me what to do... I'm just so lost." Mr. Vector sighed.
Mr. Shadow continued to try to make him feel better but he still seemed to be sad about Mr. Espio. If only I knew what I could do to help.
For now, my friends needed me. I walked back to my room where I figured we'd just eat some snacks, try to laugh, and hope for the best. "Hey, guys! I brought back the-" I began but when I walked in the room, there were Tails and Charmy all snuggly next to each other. But when they saw me they quickly scootched away. "Chew chew." Cheese said. He didn't seem too shocked but I was so surprised about what happened.
"Oh, h-hey Cream! Glad you brought snacks!" Tails stuttered. "Y-Yeah! We were wondering when we were coming back!" Charmy added. I still stood there, just staring at them, and I had dropped all the snacks. I looked above their heads and saw two golden hearts above their heads. Tails and Charmy liked each other? I started smiling so big and getting all excited! "EEEEKK!!!!!" I cheered, squealing loudly. Tails and Charmy rushed over to try and cover my mouth while Cheese kept a lookout.
"SHH! You're gonna give them the wrong idea!" Tails cried. "We'll explain but just quiet down!" Charmy added. After I calmed down and we settled on my bedroom rug, they looked at each other nervously and then at me. "Tell me!! I wanna know!" I pleaded, giving them my best baby eyes. "Chew chew!" Cheese added. "*sigh* Alright! So, basically, we were hanging out more ever since you told us about the ships and different things going on. We wanted to be careful about it but we wanted to tell you at the same time. You won't tell anyone right?" Tails asked.
I nodded my head and hugged both of them letting them know their secret was safe with me. You'll have to wait till you're both 11 or older though. You know how the grownups feel!" I told them. "We know! But we just can't help it!" Charmy replied, smiling at Tails. "You guys are so cute together!" I geeked, hugged them tighter.
After eating some snacks, laughing about stuff, and checking on Mr. Shadow and Mr. Vector, we decided to go to sleep. Maybe, I'd have a sweet dream tonight.
Something kept brushing against my nose. It tickled. It ended up waking me up. I opened my eyes to a bunch of flowers on my face. What? Where am I? I immediately sat up and looked up to see a whole field with the entire land filled with flowers. "Hello? Is anyone there?" Nothing. "Cream, behind you!" I heard a voice say. I recognized that voice. I whipped around, almost snapping my neck.
My mother.
"Hello Cream, it's been a while!" she giggled and reached out her arms. "Momma!" I cried, hopping up to hug her. I could feel her again, hug her, and she could hug me back! "I've missed you so much! So much has happened! You wouldn't believe it!" I cheered. I heard her giggle, gently picking me up to give me dozens of kisses. "Oh, I believe it! I've watched it unfold from above!" she replied. "Really? What did you think?" I asked her. "You've done wonderfully! But, perhaps go easier on the robots?" she replied, smiling at me. I laughed, remembering when the robot toppled over Knuckles. "I will! I promise!" I replied.
She seemed so happy, free from all the pain and disease. "It's been lonely without you momma. Everyone misses you." I sighed. "I know Cream... but I'm where I need to be. If I was still here, I'd be hooked up to machines that did no good for me. But I know you've all been doing fine without me." she sighed. "Is Mr. Espio going to join you?"
It seemed like my momma was struggling for an answer. She pulled me closer to her side and picked a flower from the ground. "He will..." she sighed. I panicked! "What! But that's not fair! He only fell because of-" I cried. "Hang on now! You didn't let me finish!" she smiled. I was confused but maybe she had a point. "Listen to me, Mr. Espio will join me. It is guaranteed. Unless," she began and reached into her pocket.
"You must give Mr. Vector this letter. I know he's hurt. Trust me, I know," she said, putting the flower she had behind my ear. "To be honest, I wasn't sure if we were truly meant for each other. I loved Vector with all my heart while I was on earth. But with that necklace you wear now, I could see his feelings shifting slightly when he was with Espio. I was going to break up with him but, cancer already took care of that..." Momma seemed so sad about it. I knew she never wanted to hurt Mr. Vector. But things are a challenge. "Will I see you again?" I asked sadly. As much I knew she had other things she probably had to do, it'd be nice to actually see her like this again.
"Most likely yes. I'll always watch over you Cream. Just stay sweet for me! I know you'll bring everyone together!"I smiled and hugged her tightly again. I wanted to remember her embrace because I knew it'd be so long. "I love you."
She hugged me tightly and held me close. "I love you too." She looked me in the eyes again, making sure the flower was tucked behind my ear. She gave me one last smile before I received a kiss on my forehead. Suddenly, my necklace started glowing bright red, sparkling in front of us. "I believe in you Cream! Don't forget the purpose of our power. We bring people together!" I nodded my head and smiled.
I snapped awake. I sat up in my bed and realized I was back in my room. My necklace was no longer glowing. I was sort of relieved since I've never dealt with it before. I sat up to rub my eyes but that's when I realized that now I had a blue envelope in my hand. The letter! But how'd it get here? I was so confused! No matter how it got here, I knew this letter wasn't for me.
Mr. Vector would have to read this letter. After all, his name was on the back. Anything to save Mr. Espio at this point. The clock read 2:35 a.m. I'll have to be super quiet! I hopped out of the bed, stepped over my two best friends, then walked out the door.
When I got out of the room, I heard the snores of both Mr. Shadow and Mr. Vector. Quickly and quietly I opened the door to Mr. Shadow's room where he was sleeping peacefully. I smiled but then left the room and closed the door. That's when I went towards the living room sofa where I found Mr. Vector sound asleep. When I came to his side, I saw that he had something gripped inside his hands. Carefully, I parted his hands and saw a dragon necklace that Mr. Espio was wearing earlier before he fell. Aww. He must really miss him. I have to make things work! Their fate is in my hands!
I placed the envelope in his hands and then closed his hands around it. Please let this work...
Once I knew it was secure, I raced back to my room to try to go back to sleep. For a while I laid there, dying to know what that letter said. But it was none of my business.
Don't fail Mr. Espio... I don't want both of you to be sad...
