Cream Knows Best - Chapter 36: Chapter 36

Cream's P.O.V
I felt really bad for Mr. Shadow ever since we almost crashed last night. He was just so sad about having his heartbroken. But what could I do about it? I didn't want either of them to be this way forever. Hmm. I wonder. "Mr. Shadow, can Cheese and I go off to play?" I asked him, as he was sitting down at the table with some papers. "Might as well, I've got a ton of paperwork. Just be back before dusk." he replied. "Okay!" "Chew chew!"
We headed outside the door and looked around the place. "We should go pick flowers!" I suggested to Cheese. "Chew chew chew!" Cheese replied. We skipped over to the park where they had these special flowers that lightly glowed when it was dark.
All the flowers were absolutely beautiful! I couldn't wait to surprise Mr. Shadow with all of these! "Remember Cheese, we don't want to pick all of them! If we do, there won't be able left to continue the family!" I told him. "Chew chew!" he replied. "Oh okay! I understand! These flowers are pretty!" I took a small sniff of the flower, remembering how mom would often do so to see how fresh they were. I was so excited to make a huge bouquet of this later!
After we gathered our flowers, we started to walk towards Amy's house so she could help me. "Do you think Mr. Shadow will get better?" I asked Cheese asked as we walked. "Chew chew?" he asked me. "I'm not too sure. It's sad to see him the way he is. Why do you think Mr. Sonic refused him?" "Chew chew?"
"No, I never did ask him. Maybe that's what we're missing! If we can figure out why he didn't like Mr. Shadow, maybe we could find a way to fix it! Or at least get them to talk to each other again. Either way, no time to waste! We've gotta hurry!" I explained and began to run in the direction of Mr. Sonic's house. "Chew chew!"
Sonic's P.O.V
I was sitting on the couch, reading a book. But every time I'd get to another point in the book, the thought of Shadow crept back into my mind. I screwed up so badly... How could I be so insensitive about his feelings too? I wasn't even sure if I liked him when he asked me out. But now... I feel like I hurt both of us. Do I love him? And if I do... is it even worth it to tell him?
My thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. Hm, wonder who that could be. I got up from the couch and opened up the door to see Cream standing there with a bunch of flowers. "Hi Mr. Sonic! How's it doing?" she asked happily, handing me the bunch. "Oh, hey Cream! Hey Cheese! It's nice to see you!" I replied and let her and Cheese come inside the house. It was odd seeing both of them just drop in out of nowhere. "So, whatcha doing coming this way you two?" I asked them. "Chew chew!" Cheese replied. "We came to come to talk to you for a bit!" she replied and both of them sat down on my couch.
"Uh, sure!" I replied, taking my seat. "What would you like to talk about?" I asked her. "I'm not exactly sure what happened... but when Mr. Shadow was driving me and Cheese home, we nearly crashed into a bunch of rocks while he was driving so fast. But I knew he couldn't help it. He was so upset. Did something happen while I was asleep?" she asked me. I was in shock, my emotions began to build up, and I wasn't sure what to say. "U-Um w-well, y-yes and no. We got in an argument after I was trying to cheer him up. But... then he stormed off... that's why he took both of you with him..." I explained, a small tear forming in my eye.
She walked over to me carefully and looked me dead in the eyes. "How do you really feel about Mr. Shadow?" she asked me. I don't why but my cheeks flushed red. "T-To be honest... I think I might like him... but at the same time... how do I know he's not playing with my feelings? I... I just don't want to make the wrong choice." I responded, looking down at the ground.
"But Mr. Sonic, he does love you. He loves you so much!" she replied. "C-Cream, I know you're just trying to help but-" "Did you ever open up that box he gave you?"
Box?
Oh right! "N-No I never did." I sighed. I went into my room and looked under the bed to find the cloth box that he gave me the other day. I stared at it, nervous to know what was inside of it. "Should I really be doing this?" I asked looking at it. "It's nothing bad Mr. Sonic! You've gotta open it one day!" Cream said and gave me a warm smile. "Chew chew!" Cheese added. I gave another huge sigh and then removed the tape holding it together.
When I took off the lid, I saw the black, red, and blue hoodie neatly folded and gently took it out of the box. "Wow... it's so soft! And it's just my style! How'd he know?" I awed, rubbing my face in it.
"I helped him out, but he knew he wanted to get you something that would remind you of him and yourself. He explained that he needed to show that he always had you no matter what happened in your life. He loves you Mr. Sonic. Even though it seems like he's terribly angry and done with you, he'll always love you. He probably is thinking about you right now. But I wouldn't know. Mr. Shadow is very unpredictable." she revealed.
Knowing Shadow would get something to show how much he cared about being with someone, really said something to me. In the past when I thought about him, I didn't think we'd ever be acquaintances, let alone friends. It came to my realization that everything he's done up to now was to prove how he truly cared for me. It made my heart glow. I need to tell him I understand! I have to! Yet... "As much as I want to go tell him about how I feel... it's probably too late... he hates me right now..." I said, at last, looking down at the ground in defeat. "Mr. Sonic, just go see him! The farther you push this out, the more distant you and Mr. Shadow might get! Please Mr. Sonic, before it's too late!" Cream urged.
She was right. If I wanted to make things right, I was going to have to make the first step. "You're right! But- how can I just show up? I don't even know what to do!" I said, nervous about what to do. I watched Cream lay down her bunch of flowers and undo the ribbon wrapped around her shirt's collar. Then she used it to tie the whole thing together so it wouldn't fall apart. "Take these to Mr. Shadow, tell him what you've really been feeling. Then he'll know!" she instructed and handed me the bouquet.
"Oh gosh! I-I don't know what to say! T-Thank you Cream!" I said stunned and then raced out the door. Hopefully, he still loved me back.
Shadow's P.O.V
I hate having extra work to do from G.U.N, but if I was going to save up financially for Cream, I was going to have to keep this up. Still, anything for her. I was going to keep that promise for Vanilla no matter what. When I finished up the work, I decided to go ahead and make lunch in case Cream came back for a quick bite. I doubted it, but I left a sandwich in the kitchen where she'd be able to find it. That's when I heard a knock at the door.
Huh, strange. I wasn't expecting anyone to come over today. Well, I didn't want to keep whoever it was waiting so I went up and opened it up. There stood the one person I really didn't want to see. "Oh... Hello Faker." I snarled and just stared at him. "H-Hey Shadow..." he said sadly. I took a better look at him and saw that he was wearing the hoodie I got him for the day I was confessing to him. "You actually opened it." I sighed. "Y-Yeah I did! I... I love it... Y-You did a good job picking it out!" he stuttered.
"Why are you here, Faker?" I grumpily asked him, questioning why he was here in the first place. "L-Look S-Shadow... I know I hurt you when I rejected you the other day... But I never wanted to! The thing is... I was worried when you confessed to me, that you were playing with my feelings, instead of meaning the words you said. When you confessed to me, I wasn't sure if I even had feelings myself! I didn't want to say yes and hurt you further down the line! I didn't want to make the wrong choice! Seeing you storm out last night... showed me your real feelings. I see now how upset you were and... now I know you truly care. And I wish... I wish I didn't hurt you the way I did." he explained. I felt my cheeks heat up hearing those words. "I understand that in the darkness that could potentially surround us, you'll always be right there. Just like your hoodie resembled," he went on. "I'm sorry... I love you too Shadow... I know you can't anymore. But I just wanted you to know that I understand now. I-I should go." he finished.
My heart skipped a beat. I was so happy! He was walking away now... "No! Sonic!" I cried and grabbed his wrist pulling him back inside the house.
After closing the door, I brought him closer to my side and gazed into his emerald orbs.
"I've loved you for a long time Sonic. I would never play with your feelings like this. I simply want to be able to show you how much I care about you. I... I owe you an apology too. I should've never lashed out at you like that. I should've also known better than to confess so abruptly. I want to be able to love you. Nevertheless, everything is your choice... I'll let you decide what you want relationship-wise." I assured him, stroking his quills.
"Then it's a good thing that I already know what I want," he said. I didn't understand what he meant by that but when he pecked me on my lips, it was all clear. I kissed back and he didn't let go of me. I held him tighter, brushing my fingers through his quills. I decided to take it up a notch by gently forcing him up against the wall, holding his arms firm above his head. "S-Shadow... we shouldn't... be doing this!" he said in between our make-out session. "Why do you say that?" I asked. "Won't Cream be back soon?" I didn't think about that part, but knowing Cream, I figured that we'd be okay.
"For as long as I've known Cream, she won't be back for a while. We're fine!" I reassured and continued to show him how much I loved him. I never wanted this to end. "I-I love you Shads!" he moaned. "I love you too Sonic." We gazed into each other's eyes and were trying to get another kiss. But before I could lock lips with him again, I heard something gasp behind us. We both turned our attention to the sound and were shocked.
There stood Cream, Cheese, Tails, and Charmy in the middle of the room. They stared at us, amazed by our actions. I knew we could've gotten away with it if it wasn't for my hand being under Sonic's sweatshirt, his hands on my waist, and our noses were still touching.
"O-Oh h-hey guys! U-Um, I-I promise we can explain everything g-going on!" I stammered, lightly pushing Sonic to the side. "Y-Yeah! I-It's n-nothing terrible! I mean we were just making up after everything that happened!" Sonic explained. "More like making out!" Tails shouted and continued to stare. Charmy fell back and hit the floor making a loud thud. "Mr. Shadow... Mr. Sonic... I'm not sure what to say." Cream said as she looked at us. "Chew chew!" Cheese gasped. "W-Well- um, w-we're really sorry! W-We didn't think anyone would be coming home!" Sonic added. For a few more minutes it was staring at each other, Charmy was still passed out on the floor, and I had no idea what to do! "So, does this mean you're dating my brother?" Tails asked us.
I looked over at Sonic to hear what he had to say. To my surprised, he snuggled into my chest and smiled at me. "Yeah, we're dating." he sighed as he looked at me. "Really!?" Charmy replied stunned, suddenly waking up from his state of shock. "Yeah, we are." I sighed, pecking him on his head. "YAY!" Cream cheered and ran up to hug us. "Hah! I saw it coming!" Tails grinned. As much as I was embarrassed, I felt relieved knowing we were accepted as a couple. "Do you care if we kiss again?" I asked them.
Quickly all four nodded and watched us closely. I reached over and held the back of Sonic's head and began to bring our lips closer together. We finally locked lips and didn't let go of each other. I'll always protect you... I'll cherish you forever... I refuse to fail you... I'm yours forever...I love you...
