Shadow's P.O.V
It's been a while since Cream went out on an adventure with her friends. I was surprised she wanted to get out so early. But I was happy to let her out around the lands to try to do her own thing. After all, I couldn't keep her in my view forever.
That's when I heard a knock on the door. When I answered it, I saw Cream, Tails, and of everyone out there, Faker. "Oh, Cream, you're back. I was wondering where you went." I said when she ran up to hug me. "We had a fun adventure! Me, Tails, Cheese, and Charmy! Then we ran into Mr. Sonic and I asked them to come over for dinner!" she explained. Sonic ruffled his back quills a little embarrassed but he looked happy to be here. "I said it'd be alright with you since you don't do anything just like him!" she added. "We brought dinner too!" Faker said holding two pizza boxes.
I guess I didn't have much of a choice anymore. Hopefully, he didn't give me too many problems. "Alright, well, come in I guess." I said and they all happily came into the house. We pulled out plates and divided the pizza up for the little guys and then the rest of us. Quickly they scarfed down the food. I loved seeing them happy, all giggly, and just loving. I saw how Sonic interacted with both of them and was happy to play with them. He was always good with kids. It might my heart flutter just thinking about him. But of course, I would never tell him how I feel. Oh well, as long as she's happy.
Tails' P.O.V
While me and Cream were munching on our dinner, I realized Shadow was acting sort of odd. That's when it crossed my mind that we never investigated if he himself was in love with anyone. It's unlikely they could like each other like this. But it wouldn't hurt to find out right? Once I finished my last slice I looked over to her and flicked my tail to get her attention. "Cream, should we go outside and find some cool flowers for a centerpiece?" I asked.
"Sure! That sounds wonderful!" she replied. We got up from the table while putting our plates in the sink. "W-Wait, don't want someone to come with you guys?" Sonic stuttered as we headed to the door.
"No, we'll be fine Mr. Sonic! You and Mr. Shadow can have fun together and we'll be right back with some beautiful flowers! Be kind to each other!" Cream told them and we walked out the door. I was pleased we could get out the door without any more trouble. I was only hoping that nothing bad would happen while we were spying from a secret place. "I thought we could go to the park not too far from here! They've got some pretty flowers!" Cream said. "What! No! Cream, we're going to investigate them! I just needed an alibi to get us out of the house!" I explained to her. "Oh, more spying?" she asked excitedly. "Yep! I've got my machines and we can spy from outside the window!"
She gave a small squeal and we walked over to an open window. "Alright, we can just spy from here and we'll be able to hear them better with a chip I left in the house when we walked in! Now let's be sure we can see from this window!" I told her. We moved around until we found a spot where we could see them well enough. "Alright, now we just watch and learn!"
Sonic's P.O.V
I can't believe they just left us like that. Now I'm here stuck with Faker! I don't know what to say to him! "So... they just walked up to your house?" Crap. I was hoping he wouldn't even talk to me. "Sort of, they were playing in the area and they saved me." "Really? Who'd they save you from?" "Amy." "The annoying pink hedgehog? I thought you would've been excited to see her!" he snarled.
"Ha! You wish. I don't like her like that. She won't stop hitting on me though." I replied. "You mean you don't like her at all?" "Not romantically. She can't take the hint though. But I wonder if I do like someone else." Things got quiet again and I was hoping that maybe Tails and Cream would come back any minute now. But knowing them, I knew my chances were slim. "Thanks for walking Cream back here. I wanted to pick her up earlier today but I knew she was running off having fun. I don't want to take that energy away. But then again, I don't want to lose her. Losing her means I'd be breaking my promise to Vanilla." Shadow said calmly, his hands wouldn't stop fidgeting with his rings. "No worries. I know how much she means to you. It must feel different taking care of someone who feels like a little sister to you!" I reassured.
We sat there a little bit longer wondering if they would come back. But they haven't. It started getting darker and I was getting a little worried. "You think we should go look for Tails and Cream?" I asked him. "I'll give her a few minutes. If she doesn't hurry I'll go looking for them." he replied calmly. I decided we should talk while waiting. "So... do you have admirers?" "Like an annoying one? No, and I'm alright with that. Why do you care anyway?" "Just curious! But I'm not surprised. You have a crush or something?"
He looked away and down at the ground. "I... I do." he finally said. "But I doubt they like me back. Who would want someone like me anyway?" he added. I saw a tear form in his eye.
Something inside me didn't want him to be sad. "Hey, it'll be alright! I'm sure they'd be happy to have you in their life! Don't think negatively about it! You've got so many others in the world anyway! Even if they do reject you or don't like you, there's someone out there just for you!" I reassured him.
Shadow's P.O.V
If only he knew how I felt. But of course, he didn't. "Thanks. Sometimes it helps to know that I'm not completely alone. "We're all in this together. I'm here for you Shads!" he added. I smiled weakly. "Can I get a hug?" I asked him. Maybe it'd help me feel a little bit better. Sonic looked a little shocked but he didn't protest. "Sure, why not!" he replied and got up to hug me. He wrapped his arms around me to give me a tight bear hug.
For once, I felt... safe. He didn't move away. In fact, he seemed calm in my arms. I hugged him back and carefully I push down his quills more making myself feel better about life. His scent was strong, I didn't want this to end. I wish it could always be like this. But, it'd be selfish of me. Sonic should be with someone special, who can treat him well. I just wish that someone could be me.
"You good Shadow?" he whispered. "I'm fine. I'm sorry I just... I didn't realize how much I've needed a hug lately." I reassured. "It's okay! I don't mind staying like for a bit. I kinda like it!" he replied. I felt my cheeks heat up when those escaped his mouth. "You really mean it?" I asked. "It's nice, in like a friend way!"
My hopes dashed away once again. He could never like me. "O-Oh, well, I'm glad I could make you somewhat happy." So badly I wanted to say the words. I love you. I just wanted to be honest with him. "OH COME ON!" a voice shouted. Looking to the window we saw Cream and Tails pressed up against the window. "So disappointed." Quickly we pushed away from each other and tried to collect ourselves. They came into the door and looked at us in utter disappointment. "Why didn't you kiss!" Cream cried. "W-What!" we both shouted. "It's so obvious you guys like each other!" Tails snapped.
"What! No! We just- he just- Shadow needed a hug! He needed one!" Sonic cried. "Sure Mr. Sonic. Sure." Cream said. "Chew Chew!" Cheese added annoyed. "Oh well. It is what it is. I'll see you and Charmy tomorrow Tails. We can review our notes tomorrow!" she told the yellow fox who nodded his head in agreement. "Alright then, catch you tomorrow!" he replied and walked out the door. All I could do was stand there in disbelief. "Well, I guess I'll catch you around." "Yeah, you too."
Cream's P.O.V
I was pleased with myself in the fact that we had covered most of the ships so far. With the help of my necklace, I saw when they had affection for one another. I was also able to see when they were getting more and more embarrassed about it. Now, all we had to do was go over our notes!
"Um, Cream, can we talk?" Mr. Shadow asked interrupting my brilliant discoveries. "Sure Mr. Shadow! What is it?"
He ruffled his back quills and took a deep breath. "Look, I'm not sure what you were really doing the entire time you were out today. But you and Tails sure seemed confident about coming down on us for not kissing. What are you up to?" he asked me. "Oh, well, you see, that's a very secret thing that I can't share with you. At least not yet! But I will say, Mr. Shadow, you and Mr. Sonic have been very chummy with each other! I know you like him!" I explained. He looked a little confused and embarrassed.
"W-What do you mean? I don't like Sonic! H-He's just not my type!" he stuttered. "Hmm. You're emotions and cheeks say otherwise!" Mr. Shadow looked at me surprised. "C-Cream! You're something else! But... how could you even tell?" I asked. "Well, my mom's necklace! She said it helped her bring those together or see how they were feeling. So I decided to the same thing as her!" I replied cheerily. "That's sweet and Cream... really, it is! But... I'm not in love with Sonic... we've never gotten along and we probably never will." he sighed.
I looked above his head and saw there was a little dark cloud above his head. I didn't want to see him upset. I hugged him tightly, getting closer to his side. "It's okay Mr. Shadow. Maybe Mr. Sonic will see you for you!" I reassured him. He didn't say anything this time, instead, he ruffled my fur on top and smiled. I've never seen him smile before! "You can smile!" I gasped. "Well... I'm not completely numb." he replied, still smiling.
"Now how about we watch a movie? Just you and me?" he offered. My mind exploded at the idea but I was so happy! "Yay! This going to be awesome!"
