"No one can touch my friends!" I yelled at the immortal.
"You think you have a say in that?" Pisaca said.
Suddenly we saw the metal bed that was used to tie me up flew out from the corner of the room. It went toward the immortal, but Pisaca simply raised her hand, and the bed froze in mid-air and then it started crumbling like aluminum foil. The immortal waved her hand off slightly, and the metal ball scattered against the wall.
"I sense some talents here," she said, turning around to look directly at Jacque, "I'm a little bored after sleeping for too many centuries. Isn't it wonderful if I turn you, young girl?"
"That's very kind of you, but no thanks," Jacque replied.
"If I were you, I wouldn't turn down such a generous offer. The gift of immortality, never die, never age, always exists, always will be...just to be alive at all time?" she said.
"That sounds like a curse to me," Jacque said, still wasn't tempted, "You should keep it to yourself."
"How pity," Pisaca said, "If you say so, I guess that's enough for our little chat."
Then she waved her hand as if to swat a fly, and all of us were thrown into different directions. We got pushed against the walls like some magnets on the fridge. Octavia and I were separated by a tall window while Cammie, Alyssa, and Jacque were glued to the opposite wall.
"I can't move!" Cammie cried, trying to jerk herself off the concrete.
"Me neither!" Alyssa said in a panic. The pressure was too strong to break.
Pisaca started walking gracefully around the hall. Her smile was poisonous and undeniable. I wonder how many lives died around her because of that. And all we could do was watching our immortal nightmare. She brushed her burning gaze over each of us like we were some museum portraits. Then the immortal girl walked toward Octavia.
"What a beautiful girl," Pisaca said. Then she closed the distance between them. All my fear rose instantly, but Octavia didn't even blink. Immortal reached her hand out and stroked Octavia's temple, tracing it down to her jawline. My throat tightened as if it was clogged with too much fear.
"You know, the first hybrid child I had killed was just like you, so painfully gorgeous, but now I'm afraid I will have to bring back the history of his death and pass it on to you. Nothing in the world could compare the nectar in your veins."
Then her divine face leaned over Octavia.
"No, please, don't hurt her!" I cried from where I was.
"Ah!" Pisaca turned her face to my direction. I was quite relieved that her attention was now fully focused on me and not Octavia. I would do anything as long as it could get her out of danger.
"Viv! Don't provoke her," Octavia warned desperately. Her chest heaved with great effort, trying to break the twisted gravity Pisaca cast on us.
"So you volunteer?" the immortal said with a vicious smile. And less than a blink of an eye, she was already in my face.
My treacherous heart started pounding in her presence. Pisaca, the creator of the vampire race, let out a trilling laugh. It pierced my ears, causing me to wince. And there was this sickening scent coming from her inside as if she wasn't completely out of her corpse form. The smell made me want to gag.
"You can feed off me, but please let all of my friends go." I bargained with the blood-thirsty immortal.
"Young adorable half-blood," she said, clicking her tongue sympathetically. "I wish I could comply with your request, but sadly I have no heart to let any of you alive. And since you have made a good impression on me, I will make it quick and painless."
Then she pulled back her crimson lips. My eyes widened as I stared at her baring teeth. They looked as sharp as a chainsaw. Her strong cold hand reached out to grab my face.
"Get your hands off her!" Octavia shouted angrily, but the immortal didn't stop. I was still unable to move. Pisaca brushed my hair back and effortlessly tilted my head to the side, too easily.
"NO!" a suffering tone of voice escaped from Octavia's lips. She was trying to break free from the unseen force. Pisaca must have wanted to torture her that she purposely let me face my lover. My discoursing eyes flickered with emotions as Octavia stared back at me. I had never seen her looked so scared and miserable like this, and it hurt me too. Alyssa was sobbing and begging while Cammie started cursing in different languages she could think of. Nothing had any effect as the immortal's advances. Her long sharp teeth neared my bare neck.
I winced, waiting for the pain to come.
Suddenly, a long iron rod burst through Pisaca's stomach from behind, cutting her action off just in time. Pisaca hissed, more out of frustration. That's when I saw Jacque standing at the other side of the hall. She was the only one who had successfully freed herself from the invisible force.
"Everyone," she called out in a steady voice, "Try to penetrate her mental shield and push back her kinesis power. It will break away."
"I hate it when someone disturbs my feeding time," the immortal pulled the iron rod out of her body and twirled herself around. I could see the skin patched itself back as fast as my eyes could blink. She finally walked away from me.
I realized I hadn't been breathing for ages.
"No, Jacque!" Alyssa cried tearfully as Pisaca walked forward. That was even worse. Our succubus was just a human after all. She wouldn't be able to last long with this gazillion-year-old vampire.
But Jacque's face was a perfect mask of bravery. She started collecting herself and spread her arms. Her concentration caused two large wooden boxes from the corner of the room to rise. Then the heavy boxes hurled toward the immortal, but before they could do any damages to the she-demon, the boxes were smashed into a million pieces.
"I am six thousand years old," Pisaca hissed, "What makes you think you can defeat me?"
"Faith," Jacque spat back.
Pisaca delivered her creepy stare. And for a minute Jacque clutched her chest and collapsed to the floor. Her face was of sheer pain.
Psychic people could stop the heartbeat of a frog with their minds. And if normal people could do that, imagine what a psychic-slash-immortal-slash-mother of vampires could do to Jacque. Her whole body was shaking. Jacque panted, gasping for air.
Pisaca was messing around with Jacque's heart. I needed to do something. Things got even worse every second that passed, I tried to come up with a way to save Jacque.
"Stop!" I cried out and sensed the shift of attention in the air. Pisaca turned her head back to me.
"You have something to say to your friend before she dies?" she raised an eyebrow.
"No, I just want to let you know that all I see in you is a lowlife walking corpse, no immortal being would beat up a bunch of human kids like that," I said with a shake of my head. "You're pathetic. You envy us, humans. You can't age nor die. Your immortality is a true misery in itself."
"How dare you!" Pisaca snarled. Anger burned through her blazing red eyes.
"You never grow up or change. You will never understand friendship or love," I said again. "I should be the one to feel sorry for you...because with immortality, your life is meaningless."
And after I said it, Pisaca flashed forward, and I found her hand squeezing my throat tightly. This time, I could neither talk nor breathe.
"I don't know whether you are brave or just stupid," she hissed with her pointy teeth snapping at me, "but I'm still going drain every single drop of your blood until your veins turn dry!"
Then she opened her mouth, intending to bite on me, but just like a miracle, Octavia got a hold of her shoulders and threw the girl away. She had successfully formed her mental shield at last.
Then she and Pisaca started giving punches back and forth. Then psychic force broke and we were freed from the pressure.
I dropped to the floor again, still gasping for air. Cammie and Alyssa who I hadn't paid much attention since Jacque's heart attack also let loose. I sprang to my feet and rushed to Jacque. She was lying lifelessly on the floor.
"Oh my, Jacque!" I called her name and picked her off the floor. Cammie and Alyssa also came to our side.
"She's not breathing!" Alyssa cried in terror, tears streaming down her cheeks. I quickly pressed my hands on Jacque's chest and started pumping.
"She's still there," I told them as I heard Jacque's pulse beating again. "Alyssa, can you get her some energy?"
Alyssa didn't need to be told twice, she just pressed her lips against Jacque's.
Cammie also took her hands and rubbed them. I was hoping that we would transmit our life force to her in time.
Then we heard a crush, Octavia got tossed against a stack of wooden boxes, but she got up and lunged back into the battle with no fear in her eyes.
"Oh my god!" I turned to Cammie. "Get everyone out of here! I have to go and help Octavia. As long as we can hold her off, she won't notice you."
"No!" Cammie protested, looking as if I had just punched her in the gut.
"We don't have much time!" I insisted. "Go!"
Then Jacque finally opened her eyes. Her heart rate went back to normal again. There was a relief spreading through our faces.
"Now go!" I told them again and was about to shoot off when Jacque caught my wrist.
"Viv, you can't defeat her," she said, her eyes telling me the truth. "She's too strong."
"We need a plan," Alyssa said.
"What plan?" I said.
"I have an idea," Cammie suddenly said then she turned to Alyssa, who looked a bit paler after rescuing Jacque. "You see those boxes?"
I looked up to the ceiling and saw a load of goods in a net, hanging from a crane.
"Perfect," Alyssa said. I could hear her brain calculate the distances and angles.
Then they both quickly got up and ran toward it. I had no idea what they were planning to do. Octavia dodged the immortal once again and got around her before wrapping her arms around Pisaca from behind. As they struggled against each other, I just wanted to flash over to help Octavia but Jacque stopped me.
"No, Viv!" she said, finally got on her feet again. "I'm shielding Octavia from the immortal's kinetic power. If you interfere now, it can break."
"But..."
"Octavia!" Alyssa cried from the crane. "Turn that mega vamp 90° degree north with fifteen feet..."
"Alyssa, English!" Cammie yelled.
"Okay...bring her to the center!"
Octavia obeyed and pushed the girl forward with all her strength. I was holding my breath. Jacque grabbed my wrist tightly.
"She's resisting my magnetic field, I need to borrow yours," she told me. I didn't know how it all worked out, but Jacque seemed to concentrate really hard. And then I felt a pull and sensed my energy field spreading out in a floating movement. I gasped at the sensitive feeling in my body.
Octavia battled the immortal to the suggested spot and then broke free. That's when I heard a crash from above. Pisaca looked up to a rain of wooden boxes collapsing on her. As the objects buried Pisaca, Octavia rushed toward me in a flash. Cammie and Alyssa also came to us. We stood there staring at a mountain of boxes with the immortal somewhere underneath it
"Octavia," Cammie said. "Vivienne has to be stronger to defeat the immortal."
"What?" I snapped though I hadn't meant to.
"You have to drink blood, Viv."
I looked at her like she was crazy. "No, I can't, I won't-"
"Listen to her," Octavia said, "If there is a half-blood who can defeat the immortal, it's you. You're the prophesied hybrid child, and you can change the cause of our destiny."
"But..."
"Oh screw the vegetarianism already!" Cammie groaned at me.
Then I was hurled into Octavia's arms.
"Do it," she said as we stared at each other. "Drink from me."
The pile of wooden boxes began to stir.
Without another word, I pulled Octavia's collar shirt off her shoulder. At the sight of her exposing veins, I felt the impulse of my vampire instinct mounting up inside me. The demons started slamming against the door. I had tasted blood before, but just the thought of drinking it willingly made my head twirl.
"Come on!" Cammie urged.
And just like that, I grabbed Octavia and bit hard into her. My fangs sunk down, breaking through the soft layer of her smooth skin. Octavia's body stiffened. Her enchanting blood started flowing down my throat. I couldn't find a word to describe that wonderful taste. But the ugliest thing was I couldn't break myself off from sucking the blood as if my life depended on it.
"Viv, please..." Octavia whispered, trying to save me from my lust on her fresh delicious blood. She gently pushed me, but I growled in protest, clinging to her even tighter. Octavia's knees slowly buckled.
"Vivienne, stop!" Alyssa cried, "She can't take it anymore."
The conscious part of me was overridden by bloodlust, but there was this little loving voice in my head that helped pull away from Octavia. She finally dropped to the floor and passed out from blood loss.
"Oh my god, Octavia!" I cried, wiping the blood off my lips. "Oh no, what have I done?"
Suddenly we heard a loud crash and the pile of wooden boxes got shuttered apart. The immortal began crawling out of the heap. She stood up again, rolling her head around as if she had just woken up from a nap.
"I must have gone a little too easy on you," she said.
Cammie pulled out her extendable sword and burst it open. I know she had been so brave since she was in a diaper, but that wasn't how I wanted her to behave right now. Cammie didn't want a millisecond and charged the immortal, who was a hundred times stronger than a Spanish bull.
"Cammie!" Alyssa cried.
"Viv, leave Octavia to me," Jacque said. I nodded and got on my feet again.
Suddenly I gasped, feeling the warm energizing blood in my stomach burning like hot lava.
"Aaaaagh!" I cried.
"Vivienne?"
I cried again and doubled over. What's happening to me? Every nerve in my body was raging with the power I had never felt before.
My mouth felt too small for my teeth. The sharp upper canines started pushing out of my gum, but there was still a pain in my jaw. Then my lower canines also stretched out, as if they were the long-lost trait of Homo Sapiens.
I caught my own reflection in a piece of broken glass. The liquid golden rings around my eyes were blazing like two burning suns. I felt so strong, like I could to destroy everything in my path.
"Vivienne, control yourself," Jacque said. "You can do it!"
I tried to think of my friends and Octavia. Everyone was in danger. I was their only hope. After a while, I began to feel like myself again and it was time to fight.
Sprinting into the battle, I saw Cammie was already thrown against the far wall. She fell to the ground hard. Her sword slipped from her hand, rolling away to the corner.
Cammie was finally down for the count.
"Cammie!"
"Petty humans," Pisaca said.
With a demonic rage on my side, I flashed out and managed to slam into her, knocking her off of her feet. She regained her balance and popped back up like a plastic doll.
"I will make you regret this," she hissed fiercely. I rammed into her again, and we went flying, smashing against stacks of warehouse boxes. Then we got deadlocks on each other and rolled on the floor. I snatched a piece of sharp wood and staked the immortal, but she pushed me off, and I crushed into a wall of oil tanks like a bowling ball.
Suddenly, my body was pulled upright like a string-puppet. I found myself hovering helplessly like an astronaut in the space. My immortal nightmare got me nailed by her psychic power again.
"Nice try," Pisaca said, holding her hand up.
"Viv!" Jacque cried out, "Shield up! Block her magnetic field!"
I closed my eyes and tried to imagine my energy field forming into a shield around me. It must have been working because after a split second, I dropped down to earth again.
Pisaca cursed in Sanskrit. She flashed over and got me in her grip again. The immortal clutched my throat and lifted me off the ground.
"Are you ready to die now?"
"No!" I cried snidely back. "I'm half-human and half-vampire! I am strong, and I won't give up!"
Then I seized her hand and hooked my feet around her neck. Twirling myself around, I threw her onto the floor with me. Then I got off and jumped on Pisaca, ready to squash her back to death. But she arched her back and shoved me off very hard, I slammed straight into the wall. The old bricks fell, leaving a huge crater of my shape on the concrete.
I felt every bone in my body shuddered. The blood rushed from my stomach to my throat. I tried to swallow it back before the immortal came at me again. Sure enough, before I could even blink, I found her hands pulling me up and shoved me back into the wall. I saw black stars orbiting in my vision.
She closed her hands around my throat.
"I was just playing with you like a cat playing with a mouse," She hissed. "But now I'm getting hungrier, maybe it's time you be my meal."
I tried to gasp for air, but the smell of my blood made her eyes glowed even brighter. Her face told me that she wanted to slit my throat and feed on me. I could see the two-thousand-year thirst in her feverish eyes.
And just so, she bared her teeth and bit down on me. I screamed at the horrible pain. Once her teeth sunk deep into my flesh, the immortal started sucking me like a freaking leech. I could feel hot blood dripping down my shoulder.
Then in my dizzy vision, I heard Alyssa yelled something to get the immortal's attention. And at the same time, I saw her running toward us and slapped her hands on Pisaca's shoulders.
A horrible shock burst through us, both the immortal and I screamed together. Alyssa actually shocked our bodies like a lightning bolt. How did she get so many electrons to zap us? Then I found Jacque on the floor, looking paler and weaker. Had they exchanged energy?
Pisaca cried out and loosened her grip on me. Alyssa collapsed on the ground and started crawling backward on all four.
"I will kill you!"
Pisaca lifted her hand, intending to end my best friend, but I took off and bit hard into her neck from behind. My gorilla fangs tore a chunk of her tough skin.
Pisaca screamed and flipped me off, crushing my body to the floor.
"Viv! Take the sword!" this time, Cammie shouted. She immediately restricted the blade back into the hilt and threw it to me. The sword flew in a rotating motion and dropped within my reach.
The immortal snarled and jumped on me.
I quickly grabbed the sword and clicked open the blade again. The sharp metal shot right through Pisaca's middle chest, bursting from one side to the other.
For the first time, the immortal looked startled. She stared down to see what had happened to her as if she couldn't believe the possibility.
"Those who are dead should stay dead," I said and pushed her away with all my strength, and she went flying into the golden coffin.
"Vivienne, hold her down," Octavia's voice said. I was relieved to hear from her again, but I did as I was told and rushed to the coffin. Pisaca had trouble getting up as the sword prevented her from moving properly. I got on the edges of the coffin and grabbed the hilt of the sword before twisting it. Bright blue electricity burst to life, shocking the immortal to the core. She screamed and hissed.
From the corner of my eyes, my friends and Octavia started moving the cover forward. It was still too heavy.
"Hurry up!" I yelled as Pisaca was writhing under me.
"Everyone stepped back," Jacque said. "I have a better idea."
They did as she said. As far as quantum physics goes, size doesn't matter, and Jacque slowly raised her hands. The golden cover rose from the ground effortlessly.
"Get out of the way, Vivienne!" Jacque told me and I jumped off the coffin. The cover dropped back to its rightful place. But the immortal wasn't going to lose the battle so easily.
The lid of the golden sarcophagus shook, threatening to pop open.
