"Sir, The boss will see you now." Uriel, Cade's assistant informed me.
I looked up from my phone to the chubby male Assistant, standing Infront of Cade's office.
My eyes moved to the assistant's table. There was a box of surgery donut on it, coupled with two cups of smoothies. There was also a candy jar on the table. I looked back at Uriel who seemed to have noticed my look of irritation.
He placed his head down immediately.
I moved closer to the door, stopping when I got to Uriel. "What size do you wear?" I asked.
He looked up at me. "Wha- I don't understand your question s-sir." Uriel stuttered out.
"Your footwear." I said.
"Uh... Forty six- extra large, sir." He said.
I shook my head in dismay. "Great, email me your home address, I'm here to make a peace offering—and trying to be nice."
"Wha—okay?" He said, unsure of his own words.
"Just send me all the necessary details," I said. "And uh—maybe tone it down on the donuts? It's not on brand."
With that said, I walked into Cade's office.
Cade's head was bent low, reading a file. he had lots and lots of unread files on his table. When I came in, he didn't spear me a glance.
"Hey." I said, taking my seat in front of him.
"Whatever you have to say, please make it worth my while, as you can see... I've got work to do." He muttered, without looking up.
I fought the urge to roll my eyes at his Cadeyness.
"It won't take much time, Cade." I said.
"Well, what is it?" He asked, leaving no room for beating around the bush.
"Uh... I- I wanted to apologise." I finally let out.
Immediately, his eyes lifted from his work.
His dark eyes were wide with surprise. "Pardon me? I thought I heard you utter the word apologize. Did you?" He asked, looking all serious.
I sighed. "Yes, you heard correctly. I'm honestly sorry for what I said to you at the brunch... I just wanted to piss you off... What I did was really low... I shouldn't have crossed that boundary. It was wrong of me... So... I'm sorry Cade."
Cade's lips were patted in surprise and confusion. His brows furrowed in utter and complete confusion.
"Are you- are you okay?" Cade asked me.
I was taken aback... It was exactly the same question Fay asked, when I apologized. Was I that hard headed? Even to the extent of people asking me if I was okay?
I ignored that feeling, it wasn't needed now.
"Yes, Cade, I'm fine." I said.
"Are you sure? Did you perhaps hit your head somewhere?... You're acting not like you."
My jaw clenched and unclenched. "I'm fine Cade, I'd know if I hit my own head..." I said, feeling my temper rising.
Calm down Roy... Calm down.
"I still don't get it." He muttered.
"I'm saying sorry. I ruined the brunch and I reminded you of Ma- your past. I shouldn't have done that, and now I'm apologizing."
Cade nodded. "Actually it's okay... I shouldn't have interfered in your relationship issues too... It's just that Fay's different and I didn't want you to mess it up."
"I know... I've actually come to that realization now. I uh... I'm going to try my best to make it work. I'll make her trust me. I'll make Grandma stop worrying... I'll make everything alright again." I said.
Cade raised a brow. "That's good, I guess? But- why so sudden?"
"I feel guilty." I simply said.
Cade nodded. "That explains it."
"So, we're okay?" I asked him, wanting clarification.
"Yeah, Roy... We're good." He said, still looking confused.
"Great." I stood up immediately. "Now that all this has been cleared off... I should go see Damien and Rhea... After that, I'll go see Grandma and sort everything out." I said.
"Oh, okay." He said.
I gave a curt nod, walking out if the office.
My brothers and I didn't really have that connection. That family connection that three brothers should have. So conversations between the three of us had been really-really awkward since our parents-
I shook my head, sweeping the unwanted thoughts away.
Turning, I saw Uriel, about to take a bite of his donut. He paused when he saw me.
I shook my head slowly at him. He dropped the donut back in the box, looking everywhere but my direction.
I sighed and walked into the elevator.
Time to see Damien.
____
I had called his office to see if he was available, but they told me that he wasn't in the office. So I decided to go his house.
Getting there, some maids greeted me with their head hung low- some were just too scared to look up, some even looked surprised. This was like the third time coming to Damien's house, and I had to say, nothing had actually changed.
"Hey," I said to a guard. "Where's Damien?" I asked.
"He's in the bar area sir, should I inform him that you're here?" The guard asked.
"No, it's fine... I'll go see him myself." I said, walking away.
When I reached the bar area, I found him pouring himself a drink.
"Skipping work is bad for business, you know." I announced, making my presence known.
Damien's shoulders tensed up, but he didn't turn. "Take your own advice, Roy." He said.
I rolled my eyes. He wasn't going to make this easy for me... And I knew it.
"So what happened? You missed your way again?" He asked, turning to me. "It's not everyday we see Elroy Chesterfield visit family."
"I came to see you." I said.
"Hm... That's a first." He said, taking a sip of his drink. "What do you want?"
"I came to apologise, for ruining the brunch." I said.
He raised his brows. "What?"
"You heard me. It was awful, what I did... And the things I said to you. I shouldn't have said it... I'm sorry."
"Are you-"
"I'm fine Damien... I just wanted to apologise. You can organize another brunch, I promise to be on my best behavior."
"What?" He asked again.
"Seriously, is it that hard to believe?"
"Obviously. It's either you're up to something or you got hit on the head." Damien chuckled. "So, tell me... What is this new scheme you're planning huh?"
"I'm not planning anything... I'm trying to make everything better."
"I believe you- but... I also believe that this is your new scheme to getting everything in order and whenever you make a new scheme, people get hurt."
I rolled my eyes. "There's no scheme Damien..." I said. "I'm trying to be honest here... I made a mistake and I'm trying to fix it."
"Okay... Fine, let's say there's no scheme involved in this new Elroy Chesterfield character... Why are you apologizing?"
"I felt guilty for what I did to Fay and everyone... I thought I was doing the right thing but- I was wrong." I said.
"Hm... Okay, let's say I believe you," he started.
I groaned.
"... Have you apologized to Fay?" He asked, eyeing me cautiously.
"Of course, she was the first person I apologized to. When she didn't come home last night, I got worried and I had enough time to think about my actions yesterday."
"So you're being serious now." He asked, more like stated.
"Yes I am..."
"Wow..." He Chuckled. "I never thought I'd see this day."
"Me neither." I muttered under my breath.
"Have you talked to grandma yet? She's really mad at you. She called this morning to know how I was fairing... I guess she called Cade too."
"She didn't call me... She's mad at me, but I'll deal with it."
"And Fay?" He asked.
I shrugged, out of habit.
"You don't know her whereabouts or..."
Oh shit...
"Yeah- uh- Fay's back home now, but she's still mad, I even promised to get her the contract back."
"No way."
"Yeah... It's what she wants, I shouldn't dictate her life for her. You were right." I said.
Damien, dropped his glass back on the bar table as he walked over to me. "I'm glad you realized your mistakes, Roy. It's a start."
I nodded. "Yeah, you're right."
"It's okay. I wasn't mad before. I was only disappointed... But now I'm good."
"I'm glad..." I said... "I'll just head back to Sparks now. I've got a meeting in half an hour."
"Sure... Make sure you give grans a call...Or go see her."
"I'll do that."
When I got into my car, I let out a breath of relief... Phew, that went well...
Let's see who wins at this game Yvonne... Let's see...
