FAY
"Hey! Sorry I'm late." I apologized, slipping into the booth. Looking around, the cafeteria lounge at Sparks was not so crowded as it used to be. I guess I knew why.
Dropping my Banana yogurt on the table, I pulled my hair from my face, tucking it behind my ears. Steadied my breathing, then looked up at Elroy whose eyes were already on me. He stared at me like he was seeing me for the first time.
Furrowing my brows, I managed a weird smile. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
As if my voice broke him out of a trance, he blinked, tearing away his once undivided attention from my face. "It's nothing." He said.
This afternoon, when I got his text saying we should hangout at the cafeteria lounge in Sparks, I was pretty surprised. I had been handing out gifts with Melissa at the Chesterfield orphanage home, when I got the text.
Honestly, I couldn't believe what I was reading. He had never asked me out to the Cafeteria lounge before. So my surprise right then was explainable.
"What's up?"
"Where were you, when I texted?" He asked, taking a scoop of the strawberry flavored ice cream in front of him... The one I just noticed.
Since when did Elroy become a fan of ice cream?
"At the orphanage, with Melissa." I said, feeling my breathing level relax. I pulled out the sandwich Melissa made for me, "Sandwich?" I asked.
"Grandma made them?" He asked.
"Yeah." I said, my eyes wandered around for a moment. And as expected, most people were glancing at our direction.
He took another scoop of ice cream into his mouth, nodding.
I placed one sandwich in front of him.
"Thanks." He said. "How's Grandma doing?"
I smiled. "She's okay, actually she's more than okay."
He looked pleased with my reply.
I should probably just ask him why he wanted to meet here, I mean... He never came out for lunch, during lunch hours, and even if he did, he never asks me to accompany him. Was there something on his mind? Or did he just miss me?
Miss me?
I snuck a glance at him, watching him scroll through his phone as he chewed the sandwich. Did he really miss me?
This wasn't normal.
Don't get me wrong, it's not as if I wasn't appreciating him for squeezing out time to spend with me, it's just that... It felt like a warm gesture and it really did do a number on my heart. It made me want to disregard whatever string of doubt I had concerning his intentions with me.
What if he has changed indeed? What if he wasn't only starting to miss my company? What if he actually does like me?
According to Melissa, Elroy used to be very kind. So it actually meant that he had a heart, but maybe he was scared to give it to someone, since Yvonne.
My glancing turned into a full blown stare. I loved the way his hair shadowed his forehead as he scrolled through his phone, the way he furrowed his sexily carved brows in concentration.
Damn it! Even the way he chewed.
It's funny how when you start developing feelings for someone, you notice the littlest details about them, and before you know it, you find yourself longing to find more details to fall in love with.
That was me right now.
In a normal circumstance, If I wasn't his girlfriend, I'd definitely develop the crush feeling towards him. I'd have sick fantasies about the both of us. But he is my boyfriend, and it was my choice to keep on imagining or put my imaginations into action.
But hey, I wasn't that bold. Besides, he wouldn't want me, or would he?
Last I checked, he still had feelings for Yvonne, and honestly I was jealous. If only he could look at me the way he looked at her. According to him, she was the first girl he had ever dated, which could only mean she was the first girl he ever loved.
She broke his heart, and he never got over it.
It's explainable why he still looked at her the way he did.
But I was pretty sure he would never go back to her.
Or see her behind my back.
He wasn't that kind of guy, I figured out that much about him. He was different. He wouldn't go as far as to see her again. He had enough pride in him to do something that'd be capable of hurting both me and him in future.
Why am I even thinking about this now?
"If you keep staring at me like that, I might choke on the sandwich." He said, without looking up from his phone.
My heart jumped. How did he know I was staring?
"I wasn't staring." I denied, picking up my banana yogurt.
He looked up at me. "Yeah, you weren't."
Rolling my eyes, I sucked on the straw, feeling the banana flavored Bliss hit my tongue.
"What's that?" He asked, motioning to my drink.
"Banana yogurt, why?"
He scrunched his face in distaste. "Ew."
My eyes widened. "What do you mean by ew?"
"Who drinks banana yogurt?" He asked.
He had a playful glint in his eyes.
"I do, so as over a 70% people in the world." I said. "It's actually the best flavor to ever exists."
"Wow, if banana is the best flavor to exist, where will you place vanilla? Or even better, strawberry." He asked.
"Below the charts." I said.
He scoffed. "You don't know what you're saying."
"I do know what I'm saying, El." I rolled my eyes. "Why are we even talking about flavors now?"
He shrugged, throwing the last piece of sandwich into his mouth.
"Whatever, how was the meeting with Yvonne, anyway?" I found myself asking.
He stilled for a second, before swallowing the sandwich. "It was- it was okay."
"Nothing happened? You didn't feel weird or anything?"
Something flashed through his eyes, but it was gone before I could decipher it. But I sure as hell noticed his hesitation before he spoke.  "Nothing happened." He stated. "It wasn't weird, just normal."
"Well, I'm glad then, I was actually worried."
"Hm." He said, resuming his ice cream session.
"Can I ask a question?" I said, breaking the silence.
"S-sure." He stuttered, he never stutters.
"Before Yvonne, did you- did you ever like anyone?" I asked.
He dropped his ice cream, licking his lips, which I'm sure as hell would taste divine.
Snap out of it Fay.
"No." He said, after pondering for a while. "No one was able to capture my attention, so - I never actually liked anyone before Yvonne." He answered.
"That's odd. No highschool girlfriends? Or college chicks?"
"Never really talked to anyone. And the ones I did talk to, never passed the friendship rope." He said. "I honestly saw no need for it."
"Until you met Yvonne?"
"Yeah... Until I met Yvonne." He said, sounding a little bit distant. "How about you?" He asked, giving me his undivided attention again.
Wow, He really wants to know. "Well, uh- I dated two guys in highschool. And just one in college, then one in the movie industry."
"Jayden Collins." He said.
"Yeah, Jayden." I said. Everyone knew that.
Our relationship lasted for eight months.
"That was actually my longest relationship."
"Wow... You've dated a lot of guys." He said, looking genuinely surprised. "You must have a lot of experience in a lot of things." He said.
"I do have a lot of experience in a lot of things, but not in the way you're thinking."
A small smile spread across his lips, making me marvel at the way his whole face lit up. Damn it to hell... This man was the definition of beauty. His smile was capable of giving any female or male human a heart attack.
"What way do you think I'm thinking?" He asked, the breath taking smile still on his face.
I felt a sudden heat rush up to my cheeks and tip of my ears. "Just shut up." I said, tucking back the hair that had managed to escape from the back of my ear.
"I love it when you do that." He said softly.
My heart jumped in my chest. "Do what?"
"That thing with your hair."
"How I pull my hair back?" I asked, giving him the 'what?' look.
"Yeah." He said, putting his left hand on his chin, staring like a teenager who was finally having lunch with his long time crush.
"There's nothing special about it." I said, fighting the new heat rushing to my cheeks already.
"I find it really sexy." He said.
I gave an awkward laugh. "Am I supposed to say thank you?"
He just stared.
I gulped. He knew how uncomfortable he was making me.
"Stop looking at me like that, El." I said, calling him off.
"Like what?" He asked, innocently.
"I don't know- just- stop." I said, tearing my eyes from his.
"Fine." He said. "Which one of them did you love the most?"
I raised my eyes to find him picking his ice cream again.
"Which one of who?"
"Your boyfriends." He said.
"Oh... I liked all of them."
"I didn't say like- I meant love."
I hesitated. "Love- well... Um... Jayden?"
He raised his brows. "Wow. The actor guy."
"Yeah, he was different... More mature."
Okay, why was he asking all this now? Since when did he start getting interested in my past dating life?
I took of long draw of my banana yogurt.
"Oh." He nodded. "How many of them did you have sex with?"
I choked. Yes, that's right people, I choked on my banana yogurt.
He watched me with amusement.
"What kind of a question is that?"
"A normal kind." He said. "I'm only getting to know you better so... I'm randomly asking questions."
"What? That isn't a random question."
"It is to me." He said, the playful glint in his eyes still intact.
"You don't expect me to answer that."
"I do. I wish to know. It's just a question Fay."
I stared at him in disbelief, as he awaited my reply.
Blinking several times, I straitened up in my seat. "Just one."
He raised a brow. "You're kidding."
"I don't kid." I said. "Just one." I repeated.
"No way." He looked genuinely surprised. "Fine, which of them?"
"Are you joking? I'm not gonna tell you that... It's my personal business."
"Was it Jayden Collins?" He asked, making my eyes go wide and cheeks red.
How did he even guess that right?
"No way, it was Jayden wasn't it?" He asked, a toothy smile beginning to appear.
If I wasn't so embarrassed right now, I would have paid more attention to his smile.
"I knew it. I knew there was a different meaning behind the fact that you classified him as mature."
I boiled with embarrassment. "You know what? Coming here was a bad idea." I said, making an attempt to stand.
"Okay okay okay, I'm sorry.  I'm only teasing." He laughed lightly.
"There are better ways to tease someone."
He smiled. "I know that. If we had been alone I would have gone down that route."
What the-
"Except you want me to make myself comfortable under the table."
My eyes widened. "I'm outta here." I said, making another attempt to stand again.
"I'm only kidding." He rushed out. "Come on, don't leave."
I glared, sitting back down. "Wonder why you're feeling so cheerful today."
He scoffed. "Me too." He said. "But I'd advice you not to get used to it." He picked up his strawberry flavored Ice cream. "It'll only melt away like my ice cream."
"I don't believe that." I found myself saying. "I believe you're comfortable feeling this way. And the other times when you're not cheerful, you're simply pulling an act to push people away."
He froze for few seconds, dropping his ice cream cup.
Shit.
The atmosphere around us turned into a really tense one.
The playful glint in his eyes flew out the window, bringing back the frown to his brows.
Smiling or frowning? Elroy Chesterfield was still breath takingly handsome.
But right now, I regret opening my mouth. Now I've killed his mood.
Say something Fay.
"Uh... I'm sorry- I shouldn't- shouldn't have said that." I apologized. Damn it! I would do anything to lift up his mood.
He stared at me for few seconds. Intimidating me with his eyes. I suddenly craved for his cheerful smile.
Ugh! Why did I have to ruin everything with my mouth.
"It's okay." He said. "Just realized I have some unfinished work to attend to."
Oh crap.
"See you later." He said, as he picked up his phone, stood up without another word, then walked away.
I shut my eyes, disappointed with myself. I honestly didn't say anything that bad to upset him.
What is wrong with me! Ugh!
