"Okay, El... When you said the both of us were going to be working together, I thought you actually meant we'd be working together." I finally voiced out when I couldn't take the silence anymore.
I was sitting on his seat while he made himself comfortable on the visitors seat in front of me, legs crossed on top the table with a bowl of freshly picked strawberry on his belly, as he chewed on them one by one, lazily resting his head back on the chair.
I had managed to draw out one design and now I was getting tired.
"We are working together." He said.
"How? You're busy eating strawberries while I do all the work." I pointed out.
"I thought we agreed on you drawing out the first three designs while I handle the other two?"
"Why do I have to handle three?" I asked.
He smiled, raising his head. "Because princess, there's a reason why I'm the CEO and you, the employee." He rested his head back on the chair.
I rolled my eyes. "I'm not just an employee... I'm a popular model who happened to sign a contract with your company and who is currently dating the owner of it."
"Ouuu... Feisty." He said, throwing another berry into his mouth. I still wonder why he loved strawberries so much!
"You should be helping. I'm already developing a head ache, I've been doing nothing but thinking all day."
"Do you need a head massage?" He asked.
"Like you could give one." I scoffed.
His eyes widened, as he raised his head again. "What's that supposed to mean? I give a killer massage."
"I don't believe you. Only romantic men give the best massage."
He cocked a brow. "Hm, I'm guessing Jayden Collins was really romantic." He muttered, popping another berry into his mouth.
I flushed. "Back to bringing up my ex, are we?" I said.
He only shrugged. "I'm curious."
"He was really romantic, treated me like a princess."
"Oh I see... So why did you end things with him?"
It was my turn to shrug. "Well, that's my personal business."
I said, knowing fully well that there were different stories pertaining our break up cause we decided to keep it a secret. This was one annoying thing about the internet. They make up false rumors just to sate their burning desire for gossip.
"I respect that." He said. "Do you still talk to him?"
I bit my lower lip on impulse, pulling my hair behind my ears as I noticed his swotting gaze on me. "Yeah... Sometimes, he texts to see how I'm doing."
"Okay." He said tersely. Then and there, I knew he wasn't happy with my answer.
"But it's only once in a while, you know... Everyone's moved on." I said, to lighten up the atmosphere.
"I see. Do you keep in touch with all your exes?" He asked.
"No."
"So it's just Jayden?" He asked.
I knew he was beginning to cook up something in his head and I knew it would lead to a massive change of mood from him. But the thing now is, how do I divert his attention?
"Yeah but- we don't talk that much... Just random text messages, we're barely even friends. And he has a girlfriend so, don't fret." I said with a teasing smile.
"Fret? Why would I fret? Wait- you think I was worried?"
"You obviously were, you can't deny it."
"I wasn't." He answered, throwing another berry into his mouth.
I dropped the pencil, resting my chin on my hand as I stared at him. "So tell me, are you still in contact with Yvonne?" It was my turn to ask.
He chewed slowly now, hesitating before speaking. "Yeah, but it's strictly business."
"Hm... I see." I said. "Since Yvonne's your first girlfriend. Was she your uh- your first?"
He cocked a brow at me as a smile spread across his lips. "My first what?"
I flushed. "You know what I'm talking about."
"I don't... Please, enlighten me." He said.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Was she your um- like... Your-"
"My..." He urged.
"Did you both- did you have your first time with her?"
"My first time of what?" He asked.
Why did I even bring this up? I wanted to discomfort him, now I'm discomforting myself.
"Sex." I blurted. "Was she your first?"
"Oh that... Ha ha." He gave a light laugh, something I'd never seen or heard, it actually made him look and sound younger. "No, she wasn't."
I frowned. "I thought you said you never dated anyone before Yvonne?"
"Yeah, I never did." He simply said.
I raised a brow at him. "So how come she isn't your first?"
"Well, what can I say, college was pretty fun when it got to the ladies, sick frat parties, free booze, one night stands, threesomes, et cetera." He said, carelessly.
I blinked. "What? You were- you were a play boy?"
"Yeah, nothing mattered back then." He said. "I simply broke and built hearts." He smiled.
"I don't believe you."
"Why ever do you say that, princess?" He asked innocently, picking up another strawberry.
"We-well you don't curse all the time and you don't act the part."
"What makes you think I don't curse all the time?"
"For one, I live with you." I pointed out. "And for the other one, you don't use hard words."
He rolled his eyes. "You don't want to see that side of me. I locked it up a long time ago." He said. "You know, in life there's always that time where everything seems to lose it's importance and value. I finished highschool at an early age, And due to my influential background in the society, I got into college pretty early too. I was young, reckless, and stupid. Lavished money on women and alcohol. But then- I stopped all at once. Even the social life gets boring at times."
Whoa. "Hold up, so all that talk about hating it when people touched you, or hugged you- was all a facade?"
"No... Hell no... If I don't give you permission to touch me, then you can't... It's as simple as that." He said, "I developed that habit when I was little. I just didn't like it."
"So, when I hugged you earlier, were you irritated by it?"
"No." He said tersely. "That's a different case... You're different."
"How so?" I asked.
"It's something I can't explain... Let's just leave it at that." He said as he chewed, picking another strawberry from the bowl.
"Why do you like strawberries so much?" I asked before I could stop myself.
He stopped Midway from throwing it into his mouth as his eyes darkened.
His gaze fell on the strawberry on his hand, then he dropped it.
Wait- did I say something wrong?
He went so still.
"My Mom- she used to love it." He said, shocking me. "It was her favorite fruit. Anytime she got nervous or tense, she'd eat strawberry to calm herself. I always used to find it funny but- not until I fell in love with it myself." He said.
I smiled at him. This was progress. He wouldn't tell me this on a normal day.
He detached his eyes from the strawberries. "Do you care for?"
"No, thanks."
He shrugged. "Your loss." He said, picking another one and throwing it in his mouth. "Better than anything called banana."
"Now you're just being mean on the poor fruit."
"What? It's the truth." He said.
"Whatever." I said, picking up the pencil.
Well, I couldn't help but realize we went through a whole conversation without fighting.
I was on the verge of smiling when my phone vibrated. I was getting a text.
From Lucas.
Luke:
Hey! How fast can you get to the 5th floor, there's something I need you to see, I need your advice.
I looked up at Elroy, to find his eyes on my phone screen as he chewed slowly, before burning me with his stern gaze. "Who's texting you?"
I gulped. "Lucas."
"What does he want?"
"Um... He wants to see me. Sounded urgent." I said.
"Are you going to go?" He asked.
I licked my dried lips, debating on the issue... Should I? Elroy's face wasn't exactly giving anything away.
But then again, I couldn't exactly ignore him.
"It's okay." He said, taking his feet off his table, as he dropped the bowl. "You can go." He leaned forward picking the sketchpad from my side to his. "I'll finish up here."
"You sure?" I asked.
"Totally." He said, "It might be important."
I sighed, standing up. "Thanks, El."
He gave a small smile. "I'll call you when I'm about leaving." He said.
"Okay. I'll see you then." I smiled awkwardly, making my way out of his office, with one bugging question on my mind.
Did I make the right decision?
