FAY
"I still don't know why we didn't take him to the hospital, Damien." I muttered, pacing back and forth in Elroy's living room.
Damien sighed, running a hand down his face. "Trust me Fay, Elroy wouldn't have wanted that. Besides, Dr. Xavier is a long time family doctor, he knows what he's doing."
I shook my head in disapproval.
"I don't know, Damien... Since when did Elroy become asthmatic?" I asked.
Damien didn't reply to that question. "You need to stop pacing around Fay, relax. Elroy is going to be fine." He said.
"Fine? No... Elroy Chesterfield had an asthma attack not too long ago, in the main Street. I was there, and I am the cause of it! I shouldn't have just gotten out of the car. But I was so Mad I-"
"Fay, It's okay. It's not your fault." Damien cut me off.
He equally looked worried and somewhat guilty.
"Has this ever happened before? To him? Or was this the first time?" I asked him.
He glanced up at me, looking a bit lost. "I used to think he was Faking it. All these years, I blamed him- I- I thought he was Faking it."
Was he talking to me? It didn't seem so.
"Why would anyone fake an asthma attack? And, what do you mean by all these years?" I asked him, totally clueless.
He sighed, looking up at me. "This isn't the first time, Fay. It's the second. The first happened when we were only 14."
I furrowed my brows. 14? That was when his parents died right?
"Till today, he never had any attack. So, we all thought he faked it that day. We all except, Cade."
"What happened Damien?" I asked.
"There's a lot you don't know Fay. Even if I wanted to tell you, I wouldn't know where to start." He said, looking a bit lost.
We had gotten back to Elroy's house, thanks to Damien who didn't take much time in getting to the main Street. I thought we would head straight to the hospital but- he took us home, saying something about the family doctor, waiting in the house.
I noticed he was worried, probably more worried than I was. Melissa and Rhea got here not too long after I'd changed my clothes. The both of them were currently with Elroy, who still hasn't woken up yet.
The doctor was also in there with them.
For some reason, Rhea thought it would be much better for me to stay out of the room.
I knew it was partially my fault but- it wasn't intentional. If I had known he would be badly affected by the cold, I wouldn't have bolted out of the car like I did. I would have just listened to him and stayed back.
Now, see what's happening!
Lucas was Right. I am stubborn!
I knew everyone thought this was my fault, one way or another, or maybe I tried to get revenge on him by shoving him in this state but- I was pretty sure none of them knew how attached Elroy and I had gotten, these last few days.
Maybe that's why they think this wasn't an accident.
I would never hurt him on purpose. No matter what he did. I wasn't that kind of person, neither would I harm to sate my thirst for revenge.
If anything, I had grown to care so much about him. So much that it hurts.
But right now, I knew I made a big mistake, so I'd have to be patient until they all leave, maybe then I could take care of him and be beside him till he wakes up.
What would happen when he wakes up?
Would he blame me too? Would he go back to hating me?
I groaned.
"I feel like beating up myself for this. Everyone thinks I did this on purpose."
"It'll pass Fay, trust me."
"But-"
"Where's He?" Cade's voice boomed around the house.
Both Damien and I turned to meet his gaze. He looked genuinely worried, but when his eyes met mine, they turned into hard glares.
I gulped.
"What did you do to him?" Cade's eyes were actually burning with anger.
Damien shot up from the couch, standing in front of me, as if trying to protect me from Cade. "Cade, this is not her fault."
"Not her fault? I can't believe you're saying this Damien. Our brother is in danger because of her. I blame her, one hundred percent."
Damien sighed. "Cade you need to calm down-"
"If you have forgotten Damien, Elroy doesn't take a liken to stormy weathers. Even if he heard his company was on the verge of collapsing, he wouldn't leave the house if it was raining at that time. Now all of a sudden, he had an attack in the rain. When he was with Fay." Cade said. "To top it all, she deliberately left him, until he fell unconscious."
"Now you're just making assumptions Cade. Fay's not responsible for this, she-"
"Damien," I stopped him, taking a step forward to face Cade. "Listen, I know this is my fault, if I had done things differently, we wouldn't be here. I'm not denying that fact. But- I need you to know that I would never, ever do anything to hurt Elroy. I care about him a lot. If I had known that my actions would put him in danger, I wouldn't have taken them."
"You care about him?" Cade asked.
"Yes. A lot."
"Great, then it's solved then. Your presence in his life gives him emotional stress. He might not even be in this state because of the cold. It might be because of you."
I blinked.
"Cade, stop this nonsense." Damien said
"It's not nonsense, Damien, it's the truth... My brother hasn't gotten an attack for like, ten years now. And now suddenly, you're in his life, giving him reasons to think of unnecessary things. Stressing himself up, trying to deal with you." He said. "If you care about him, stay away from him."
I took in a deep breath. "I'm sorry." I managed to let out. "It wasn't intentional, Cade." I gulped. "Not until today, did I find out Elroy was asthmatic. No one told me anything. You think if I had known I would have deliberately put him in danger?"
"Yes, Fay. We all know the both of you don't really care about each other, you only try to tolerate each other."
"That was before." I injected instantly. "Now we're different. And just like every other couple out there, we had a fight, I told him to stop the car to avoid more arguments, I went out of the car, and he followed me. I never asked him to-"
"Any man in his right senses would do just that." Cade cut me off.
"I know, but I promise you Cade, if I had known, I wouldn't have gotten out of the car." A tear sled down my left cheek.
"Guys, what has happened, has happened. We can't change the past now, can we?" Damien cut in.
Then in came the silence.
I swallowed, wiping the lone tear from my cheek as I dropped on the couch.
"Where is he?" Cade finally asked.
"Upstairs, with Grandma and Rhea." Damien answered.
With one last look at my direction, Cade headed for the bedroom.
If Cade could react like this, how would Elroy react when he finally regains consciousness?
"Don't pay heed to his words Fay, he's just mad."
"He's right." I said, looking up at Damien. "He's right... I made a mistake."
"I called at the exact moment, that's all that matters." Damien said. "He's going to be fine and everything will go back to normal."
What was our normal?

ELROY
The sound of the harsh down pour of rain was the only thing I could hear. The radio kept going on and off as my Dad took another turn. I noticed there wasn't any street lights down this route, but there were a few side road stores with lights on the front.
"Why didn't we take the other route, honey?" My mom's voice filled the car. Her voice mixed with the sound of the rain was the sweetest Melody anyone could possibly ask for.
"Traffic. I want us to get to the kids before my mom finally loses it." My Dad replied with a side smile.
In response, my mom chuckled.
Suddenly, the car gave a slight bump. I gasped, unaware.
My mom turned to me, from the front seat. "Are you okay, honey?" She asked with worry.
I nodded.
"Do you have pains anywhere?"
I shook my head.
"Let me know if you need anything, okay?"
"Okay, Mom." I answered.
She smiled at me, squeezing my hand lightly before turning away.
"I'll go out to get a smaller inhaler for him, Dr. Xavier suggested that he had one with him, Incase we aren't around whenever," My Dad paused, looking up at his rare view mirror, to find my gaze on him. "... If it happens again." He completed.
I looked away, resting my head on the window, as I watched in silence, remembering the events before the attack. Cade and I had been busy messing with the microwave in the kitchen, something about experiments. He had begged me to keep watch in case, Rhea the teller, sensed something fishy and tell on us.
I found it stupid at that time, but Cade had begged me, so I agreed.
His experiment one way or another, lead to smoke all around the kitchen. We both dashed out when we saw things had gotten out of hand.
"Mom! Cade's experimenting again!" Rhea yelled from behind us, coughing.
We ran into the store room, laughing our heads out.
But then, I felt my insides closing in on me, so I thought coughing would make me feel better, but then- I couldn't stop, I coughed until I started wheezing, gasping for air, but it wasn't coming.
Cade tried to help but there was nothing he could do, so he decided to call out for help.
I blinked, snapping out of it.
"Everything okay, El?" My Dad asked.
"Yes, Dad." I answered, wishing I had my phone to keep me busy.
Ahead of us, was a woman with an umbrella, by the side of the road, there was a little boy of about four to five in her arms, she looked desperately in of a taxi.
"We should help her honey, it's raining and she's with a child." My mom said.
Without a reply, my Dad packed the car right in front of them.
"Oh my, thank you so much." Her British accent was really thick. She closed the umbrella, getting into the car.
I moved to the other end of the seat, creating room for the lady and her son.
When they got in safely, my Dad moved the car.
"My homes not really far from here, sir. It's just in the next street." She said with a smile.
"Okay." My dad equally returned the smile. "Quite a weather." He said
"Oh yes, I didn't know that I'd end my shift so late. My kids would be worried sick if I had decided to stay back." She smiled, turning to glance at me.
She smiled sweetly at me, her blue eyes twinkling. "Hi." She said.
"Hi." I replied awkwardly, looking away.
"Forgive my son," my Mom voiced out. "He's usually more chatty than this." She smiled.
"It happens, my older son, Luke, just about his age, he rarely smiles."
"When kids hit puberty, it's bye bye to cuteness." My Dad joked, causing the woman and my Mom to laugh, as if an inside joke had just been cracked.
I glanced at the little boy beside me, finding his eyes on mine already. He had this big baby blue eyes, just like his mom's. It was almost as if he was trying to tell me something with his eyes, but I wasn't getting the message. He just stared.
His big baby blue eyes was the last thing I saw before the blinding light over took the whole car, followed by the loud screeching sounds of the tires- and I watched it all happen over and over again.
I jumped, sitting up right.
I shut my eyes tightly, blinking away the blurry vision. My breathing was unsteady and I was sweating. I tried to move my left hand but I noticed it was a little stiff, so I looked over at my left side. My hand was attached to a drip, above my head. "What the-" I stopped short when I turned to my right.
Fay was sleeping at the other end of the bed, her body was in a sitting position on the ground while her head rested on the bedside. The big chandelier wasn't on, but there was light coming from the balcony in my bedroom, and Fay's bedside lamp.
Why didn't she just sleep on the bed?
I tried to lift my hand again, forgetting the attached drip.
I groaned softly, pulling the wire out of my hand. I winced at the small pain, massaging my hand.
I pulled the covers from my body, getting up from the bed, as I made my way straight to the shower.
I needed a hot bath and strawberry flavored wine, before I begin to think of various possibilities on how I got here and why I had the nightmare that had once left me.
