Right before the wedding kicked off, this little kid with grape juice came barreling into the hall and slammed right into Iris.
The purple juice soaked half her white dress in seconds.
She freaked out, "My dress!"
"Whose bratty kid is this? Who the hell let him in? Get him out of here, now!"
Nate rushed over when he heard all the yelling.
When he saw how pissed Iris looked, he stopped dead in his tracks.
In his mind, she was always this sweet, quiet girl.
Even when stuff went wrong, she never lost her cool like this.
Seeing her flip out threw him completely.
"Nate? Where'd you come from? I didn't even see you."
When Nate looked at her again, her face had switched back to that sweet angel act, like she'd just been possessed or something.
"I heard you shouting and came to check. You okay, Iris?"
"It's nothing. Just some kid who spilled juice on my dress. I'll go change real quick. Wait here."
"Sure."
Nate nodded.
Something about Iris felt off to him lately.
This weird feeling kept coming and going.
She just didn't seem like the same girl he'd been with before.
But he couldn't put his finger on exactly what was different.
And sometimes, when he closed his eyes, he didn't see Iris's face—he saw her sister's.
The doubt was eating at him, but he couldn't say anything.
I mean, Iris was his wife. Her sister was just... his sister-in-law.
Sister-in-law.
He suddenly remembered how she'd called him "brother-in-law" before he got in his car.
Her face had been super pale when she handed him that wedding gift before taking off.
He hadn't even gotten a chance to call after her.
Nate suddenly wanted to see what was in that box.
He took the elevator down to the parking garage and tore through his car looking for it.
He called his assistant over.
"Where's that box I gave you this morning?"
"Mr. Sullivan, you mean the one from Miss Grayson's sister?"
His assistant started stammering.
Nate's face darkened. "What happened? You can't even hang onto one damn box?"
"Mr. Sullivan, Miss Grayson said it was worthless junk and told me to toss it in the trash."
"What?!"
Nate was furious.
"Do you remember where you threw it? Find it, now!"
"Right away, sir."
The assistant bolted.
Watching him go, Nate felt this weird knot in his stomach.
Ten minutes later, the assistant came running back with the box, but just as he was about to hand it over, Iris showed up out of nowhere.
The assistant read the room and walked off with the box still in his arms.
"Nate, why are you hiding down here? I came out of the changing room and couldn't find you anywhere."
"What do you think?" she asked, doing a little twirl. Her purple wedding gown caught the light as she spun.
Nate's eyes went cold.
He remembered clear as day that she hated purple. So why the hell would she pick a purple dress for their wedding?
The questions kept piling up in his head.
His mind was a total mess.
"Looks great. That color works on you."
Nate smiled, but his eyes stayed dead serious.
Iris didn't catch on and just kept checking herself out.
The music started up, and the officiant stepped onto the stage with all that typical wedding intro crap.
When they introduced the happy couple, Iris was all starry-eyed, but Nate just stared straight ahead.
As he took Iris's hand and walked toward the stage, her sister's face suddenly flashed in his mind.
He froze mid-step, completely stuck.
"Nate? What's wrong?"
