When the car hit the Sullivan mansion, Iris was sitting there like "Why isn't anyone opening my damn door?"
She had to juggle her designer purse and push the door open herself like some peasant.
Out of freaking nowhere, someone yanked her sideways hard.
A black cloth got slapped over her eyes before she could blink.
Pure panic shot through her like lightning.
"Who the FUCK are you?! Let GO of me!" she shrieked.
"I'm Nate Sullivan's WIFE, you idiots! You're so dead when he finds out!"
Her voice could've shattered glass.
The goon who had her zip-tied kicked her in the leg and snarled:
"Shut your trap. Wanna keep breathing? Then zip it!"
That shut Iris up real quick. She clamped her mouth shut.
God knows how long she was dragged around.
Eventually, Iris felt herself in some stuffy room where the air felt thick and gross.
Then Nate ripped the blindfold off her face.
Iris flinched back like she'd been burned.
"Scared, huh? Guilty conscience catching up?" Nate grabbed her chin, squeezing hard.
Iris's stomach dropped to her feet.
"Nate? What the hell? Why am I tied up like this?"
"Like you don't know exactly why I'm pissed."
His grip on her jaw tightened until it felt like it might crack.
The pain was insane. Iris couldn't even talk, just these pathetic little whimpers.
Nate finally eased up.
"Are you for real still playing dumb with me?"
"You think I don't know all the shit you pulled?"
"Where's Skylar? And don't even try lying to me."
The second he said my name, Iris started stammering like crazy. After a few fake coughs, she tried: "My parents booked her trip! How would I know where she went?"
Nate's face was scary calm.
"You don't know? Fine. Take a look at this and tell me if it rings any bells."
He tossed a phone into her lap.
She grabbed it and looked at the screen.
When she saw all her own texts displayed there, Iris felt like someone dumped ice water down her back.
"I just wanted her to back off from you! That's why I sent those!"
"I LOVE you! So what if you mixed us up? We're still married, right?"
"So you admit you ran her off?" Nate's question made Iris realize she'd just stepped in it.
She slapped her hand over her mouth, her eyes wild with panic.
Nate lost it. He nodded to his security guy, who stepped up and cracked Iris across the face so hard she saw stars.
Half her face ballooned up instantly, and she tasted blood.
"You manipulative bitch! Your whole family screwed me over and chased Skylar away!"
"All that other weird shit that happened—that was your doing too, wasn't it? How can you be so goddamn twisted?"
"She's your SISTER, for fuck's sake!"
Nate was going nuclear with every word. He started grabbing anything he could reach and hurling it at her.
Tied up like a turkey, she couldn't do shit to block any of it.
Seeing Nate this far gone, Iris decided to go down swinging.
"I'M twisted? That's rich! Everything I did happened while YOU stood by and let it happen."
"Like you're so innocent? You claim Skylar was the love of your life, but YOU didn't recognize her either! YOU had her watching us hook up night after night—YOU did that!"
"Now that she's bounced, you're making ME the villain? You're the real asshole here, Nate!"
Her words pushed Nate over the edge.
He lunged at her and wrapped his hands around her throat.
"Shut your fucking mouth! Talk to me like that? I'll kill you right here!"
She couldn't breathe. She bucked and thrashed by instinct.
But Nate wasn't letting go. Not even a little.
If anything, his grip got tighter.
Seconds crawled by, and Iris's fighting slowed, then stopped.
Her face went ghost-white. She lay there like a broken doll.
Looking half-dead already. Nate gave her a quick kick, felt her still breathing, and backed off.
He grabbed some fancy scarf and wiped the blood off his hands like it was nothing.
Then he glanced at one of his guys and barked:
"Watch her. Try not to let her croak."
