One month later, under relentless pressure from James Peterson and Adrian.
Maxwell Peterson watched his supporters either get shipped off to distant divisions or arrested for corruption.
Maxwell panicked and launched his planned "coup" early.
On the first day of winter, bitter winds swept the city.
That night, the Peterson headquarters blazed with lights, the atmosphere deadly serious.
The hillside mansion was equally tense.
Adrian hadn't been home for days.
Worried that Maxwell might kidnap Charlotte from the hospital, he'd sent her back to the mansion first.
Despite her illness, Charlotte took command of the panicking staff with cool authority.
"Activate maximum security. Double the guards at every entrance."
"Every staff member stays at their post. Nobody leaves, and nobody gets in."
The Blackwell family came from nothing—their staff had never dealt with anything this serious.
Seeing Charlotte take charge, everyone found their footing and followed her orders.
In the chaos, Jessica slipped out wearing a maid's uniform.
She hid in the shadows, watching with hatred as Charlotte calmly directed the staff.
She was the real Mrs. Blackwell—how dare this bitch act like she owned the place?
"Ma'am, any other instructions?" the butler asked Charlotte.
Hearing this, Jessica lost it.
She rushed at Charlotte with a knife: "Die, you whore!"
In the split second before impact, Mack appeared like a ghost, kicking the weapon away and pinning Jessica to the floor.
"What do you want done with her?" Mack asked coldly.
Jessica struggled and cursed: "I'm Mrs. Blackwell! Touch me and Adrian will destroy you!"
Charlotte didn't even look at her, calmly ordering: "She's lost it. Lock her up. Mr. Blackwell will deal with her when he returns."
Several guards dragged Jessica to the basement and threw her to the floor.
Charlotte motioned for the guards to leave.
Only three people remained in the basement.
Jessica sat on the floor, hair wild, laughing hysterically: "Charlotte, you really are alive! I should've killed you when I had the chance!"
"Charlotte! Bitch! Go ahead, kill me! But you don't have the guts, do you? Hahahahaha!"
Charlotte looked down at her in silence as Jessica ranted.
Then she leaned down and slapped her hard across the face.
CRACK!
The sound echoed through the basement.
"Killing you would be easy. But too merciful."
She looked at Mack and ordered quietly: "Mack, cut her hamstrings."
"AAAAAHHH!"
After one horrific scream, Jessica's eyes rolled back and she passed out from the pain.
Charlotte turned coldly and told the guards outside: "Watch her."
Mack followed silently, keeping his distance.
Charlotte walked alone through the empty garden, the cold moon hanging overhead.
She remembered the despair she felt three years ago when her legs were broken.
The years in hiding, countless surgeries, the agonizing physical therapy sessions...
She wouldn't let all that pain be for nothing.
She wanted Jessica to know exactly what it felt like to be crippled!
Meanwhile, at the heavily guarded VIP wing of the Peterson family clinic on the city outskirts.
Maxwell Peterson burst into the old chairman's room with several loyal guards.
His face contorted with rage as he forced ink onto the old man's hand, trying to press it onto a share transfer agreement: "Dad! Don't blame me! Sign it! I'll let you die in peace! Peterson Industries is MINE!"
The old man coughed violently in anger. "Ungrateful son! You're nothing compared to your brother! How dare you... cough cough"
"Shut up! SIGN IT!"
BANG!
The door crashed open.
James Peterson rushed in with a professional security team, instantly overpowering Maxwell's men.
Adrian stood calmly behind James.
"Adrian?! You betrayed me?!" Maxwell's eyes bulged as everything clicked into place.
Before he could finish, a tranquilizer dart hit his neck, dizziness instantly overwhelming him.
"You..." he collapsed mid-sentence.
James took command: "Maxwell Peterson is under arrest for attempted kidnapping and theft of company assets. We have proof! Take him! Security team, lock down this facility and keep the chairman safe!"
Game over.
At dawn, Peterson Industries announced: Founder Richard Peterson had passed away at 78.
At 9 AM, with unanimous board support, James Peterson became chairman.
The storm had finally passed.
Charlotte stood alone on the mansion's terrace, freezing wind cutting through her.
Since that night, Adrian hadn't come home or called once.
Until today, when James Peterson's assistant showed up.
"Miss Pierce, the antidote Mr. Peterson promised you. Delivered personally."
Charlotte stared for a second before taking it: "Thanks."
"What about Adrian?" Her voice cracked.
"His help balanced his mistakes. No charges for now. The board will decide what happens next." The assistant's face was blank.
Panic hit her for a second.
Then Charlotte got it together.
If James Peterson locked Adrian up, well, she'd just have to be a prison visitor.
