I was just about to speak when Daphne popped her head out from behind him.
"Aurora? Why did you come here?"
"Severin is going to an auction to bid on a birthday gift for me. Why not come with us together?"
"No, thanks", I replied coldly.
Tears instantly welled up in her eyes. "Is it because you hate me...?"
As soon as these words were spoken, Severin immediately forgot about the divorce certificate.
He scolded me with a cold face, "Just go. Don't act like a spoiled child here."
In the end, I was still shoved into the backseat of the Bentley and taken to the auction.
But as soon as the door to the auction hall opened, the scene on the big screen froze my blood.
On the big screen, 99 high-definition, unedited private photos of Daphne were playing in a loop.
"What a beauty..."
"I wonder how much she costs per night..."
The murmurs surged like a tidal wave, and her face turned from rosy to ashen.
"Turn it off quickly!" She screamed, trembling all over. "That's not me!"
Suddenly, she seemed to think of something and looked at me fiercely.
"Aurora! Do you hate me that much? You had to humiliate me like this? Are you trying to drive me to my death?!"
With that, she covered her face and rushed out.
Severin's face darkened. "I'll buy all these photos. Turn them off within three seconds or I'll make this auction house go bankrupt!"
His sharp gaze swept across the crowd. "If anyone dares to leak a single photo today, they'll face the consequences!"
Finally, he looked at me, his voice as cold as ice. "You're gonna pay for this! Just wait!"
My mind went blank, and I felt a chill run through my body as I returned to the villa.
I sat nervously on the sofa, waiting all night, until dawn, when the door was suddenly kicked open.
He burst in with a cold aura, his eyes red as if they had been soaked in blood.
"Do you know she jumped off a building!" His voice was like sandpaper grinding against glass. "Fortunately, the floor wasn't high, or she would have died!"
A lump rose in my throat. I managed to say, "The photos weren't from me..."
"Not from you?" He pinched my chin, his thumb rubbing across my lips. "Do you think those photos would have jumped out of her phone onto the hot search by themselves?"
My lips trembled, and I was about to defend myself when my phone suddenly vibrated.
A reminder popped up on the screen.
[Death in absentia filing is about to expire.]
I shake him off and rush out to hail a taxi.
Missing this time, I would have to wait another 30 days.
I didn't want to wait any longer.
As I stood by the roadside waiting for a taxi, I could still hear his roar behind me.
Lost in thought, I suddenly heard a screeching brake sound.
"Look out—!"
Before I could turn around, I was hit by a huge impact and flew out.
In a daze, I seemed to see Severin running towards me in terror.
