When I woke up again, the smell of disinfectant seeped into my nostrils.
Severin's cold, stern face was right in front of me.
He looked down at me from above, his eyes returning to the usual indifference.
"Aurora, did you do this on purpose?"
"Did you see that Daphne got hurt after jumping off the building, so you deliberately caused a car accident to hurt yourself, trying to evade responsibility?"
"And by the way, are you trying to imitate her to make me feel sorry for you?"
He sneered, his voice as cold as ice.
"I'm telling you that our marriage is just a business arrangement. There's no love between us at all."
"No matter how much you try to copy her, it's all in vain. I have no time to take care of you, nor will I feel sorry for you."
My heart turned icy cold.
Sure enough, the horrified look I saw on his face before I lost consciousness was just an illusion.
On the day I was discharged from the hospital, Severin unexpectedly brought Daphne back to our marital home.
"The incident at the auction has been a great shock to her. She's still emotionally unstable now, so she must stay at our place, for convenience of taking care of her."
"This is all your fault. No matter how much you make a fuss, I'll still let her stay here."
He stared at me unwaveringly, shielding the girl behind him, as if afraid that I would make a big scene and hurt her.
But I had no energy to argue anymore. "Go ahead."
Anyway, the divorce proceedings were already underway. Soon, this place wouldn't be my home anymore.
Noticing my abnormality, he furrowed his brows.
Just as he was about to ask, Daphne tugged at his sleeve, her voice sickeningly sweet,
"Severin, I'm hungry."
"What do you want to eat? I'll tell the cook to make it."
"It's too late to trouble the maids," she said, lowering her eyes and giving me a provocative glance. "Aurora is here, isn't she? Let her make it."
He turned to look at me, his eyes filled with the usual sense of entitlement.
"Didn't you hear that? Go and make it."
The sarcasm pierced my heart like an ice pick.
As the legitimate wife, I was reduced to cooking for my husband's kept woman.
I twitched the corners of my mouth and walked mechanically towards the kitchen.
Amidst the roar of the range hood in the kitchen, I stared blankly at the sizzling hot oil in the pan.
"Is the spaghetti ready?" the voice of that girl came from behind me.
"Almost." I didn't turn around.
As soon as the words left my mouth, she suddenly grabbed my wrist and forcefully pressed it into the scalding hot oil!
"Ah!"
The excruciating pain shot through my body like an electric current, and I instinctively struggled.
The hot oil splashed everywhere. When I pulled my hand out, hideous blisters had already formed on the back of it.
Daphne quickly took the opportunity to drip a few drops of hot oil onto her own arm and then stumbled to the ground, her eyes instantly turning red with tears.
"What happened?" Severin rushed over at the sound.
The girl immediately burst into tears.
"Severin, I shouldn't have asked her to make me spagetti. Otherwise, I wouldn't have provoked her to pour the hot oil on my hand on purpose..."
The man's face changed drastically. He rushed forward and grabbed my wrist.
"Are you never going to stop?"
I was trembling all over from the pain. I raised my swollen hand and said with my throat filling with a metallic taste, "Look clearly! Who is hurt more seriously?!"
He froze.
"I didn't do this!" Daphne hurriedly defended herself. "She poured the oil on me first and then deliberately scalded herself to frame me!"
I stared at him, saying word by word, "Just check the surveillance camera..."
