Pushing the door, I saw Daphne pressing a pillow firmly over Grandma's face. The old woman's gaunt hands clutched the bedsheet, her face turning blue with near-asphyxiation.
"Let her go!" I shoved the loathsome girl away like a madwoman. As the pillow fell to the floor, Grandma's face was purple, her eyes rolling back.
"Help! Call an ambulance, quickly!"
My screams brought everyone running.
Severin was the first to rush in. His face paled at the sight. "Granny!"
He scooped up the old lady and sprinted out, his eyes as cold as ice as he passed me.
Inside the VIP ward, he glared at us with a dark expression. "Explain it. What happened?"
"It's Aurora!" Daphne screamed, pointing at me. "When I came in, she was smothering Grandma with a pillow!"
"She... she tried to kill Grandma! When I stopped her, she even tried to strangle me..."
Severin's gaze cut through me like an ice blade. "Grandma treated you like her own granddaughter. How could you do this?"
"It wasn't me..." My protest was cut off by his sharp retort.
"Enough!" Severin yanked off his tie. "Aurora, you'll pay for this."
With a glance, two bodyguards immediately stepped forward and seized me.
"Take her to the helipad on the rooftop of the Val Corporation building."
On the rooftop, the night wind whipped fine rain against my face.
Standing beneath the helicopter, Severin ordered coldly, "Tie her outside the helicopter and fly her like a kite!"
He personally wound the rope around my wrists. As the metal buckle bit into my flesh, I heard my own trembling voice,
"Severin, you know I'm afraid of heights..."
He sneered. Amidst the roar of the helicopter's propellers, his words held no warmth,
"That's why I'm teaching you a lesson the hard way."
"You'll stay up there until you're ready to tell the truth."
The moment the rope tightened, I was lifted off the ground.
From a hundred meters up, buildings shrank to matchbox size, and dizziness washed over me like a tide.
I bit my lip until I tasted blood, hearing his cold order through the walkie-talkie,
"Ascend to 300 meters."
I screamed, my tears torn to shreds by the wind.
The helicopter kept rising.
500 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters...
I don't know how long passed until the sky began to lighten. Finally, he signaled to stop.
"Have you come to your senses?" He stood by the railing, looking down at me.
I opened my mouth, then suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood and passed out completely.
In a daze, I seemed to hear him calling my name.
But soon, endless darkness swallowed all my consciousness.
