I landed in San Francisco a full month before Ulric.
Standing outside the university, I was about to ask for directions when I spotted a familiar face on the nearby lawn.
Yuri Frostvale.
In front of him stood a tall, thin girl with short hair and glasses, staring him down like she was ready to tear him apart.
"That's MY research. Who the hell gave you the right to take it and start negotiating business deals without my permission?"
Yuri forced a smile. "Come on, Sibyl, what’s yours is mine, right? We worked on it together."
"The concept was mine. The experiments were mine. You just assisted for a while and recorded some data. How dare you think hink you have the right to sell my work?"
The girl wouldn't back down an inch.
Hearing this, Yuri's expression darkened. "Sibyl, don't push it too far!"
"We're about to graduate. I'm just thinking about our future! What good does it do keeping everything to yourself? If we sell it to the right company, we both win."
"Let me make this crystal fucking clear—it's. My. Work." Sibyl looked at him coldly.
"The patent is in my name. You don’t even understand the core technology behind it. And as long as I’m alive, you’re not selling it to anyone."
"Oh, and we're done. From now on, you mean nothing to me."
Then, she turned and walked away.
Yuri stood frozen, staring at her retreating figure as his eyes slowly went cold.
For a split second, I saw it—the glint of something dangerous in his gaze.
Standing there, I suddenly understood.
In my past life, I once overheard Phyllis asking Ulric, “How did you manage to get someone like Yuri to work for you?”
Back then, Ulric had his arm around her by the pool and smiled.
"Because he needed my help with something."
More importantly—In my previous life, I'd never heard of anyone named Sibyl Lowell.
I arranged to meet with Sibyl.
Far from campus, in a quiet little café, she sat across from me, arms crossed, completely unfazed.
She didn’t even wait for me to speak.
"Miss Wintermere, I know why you're here, but my work isn't for sale."
I leaned back, stirring my coffee. "Why not?"
She hesitated before answering. "Because it’s not finished."
I froze with my coffee cup halfway to my lips.
"I get it. You business types only care about commercial value. But I don’t. What matters to me is what this project can achieve—what kind of breakthrough it can bring to science."
I stared at her intently.
She wasn’t wearing any makeup, but when she spoke about her research, her whole face lit up.
She was a remarkable girl. Someone who should have become a great scientist remembered throughout history.
But in my past life, because of two men's selfish desires, she died in a foreign country.
Like dust, wiped from existence.
"Miss Wintermere, if there's nothing else, I’ll be on my way."
I suddenly reached out to stop her, looking at her earnestly. "Miss Lowell, I'm willing to provide all the funding and resources your research needs."
"All I ask is that you help me with one small favor when your work is complete."
"Your research remains yours. The patent, the credit, the recognition—it all belongs to you. Your name will be the one written in history."
I leaned forward slightly. "Do we have a deal?"
