Since that “scam” was exposed, Sean completely distanced himself from Rachel.
He no longer took her to any social events, nor did he speak a word to her.
His indifference was like a sharp knife, cutting at her heart, piece by piece.
Xena noticed this completely and was very pleased. From then on, she no longer bothered to hide her hostility toward Rachel.
On the first day, Xena made Rachel stand under the scorching sun, picking up small pearls scattered all over the lawn.
Rachel bent over under the blazing sun, picking up one pearl after another. Sweat drenched her clothes, and her vision blurred with dizziness. She didn’t stop until she collapsed from heatstroke after picking up the last pearl.
On the second day, Xena ordered her to scrub all the floors in the villa, making sure every crack was meticulously cleaned.
Rachel knelt on the floor, her hands were white and blistered from the water, and her knees bled. She scrubbed through the entire night without rest, cleaning the floors until they were spotless.
On the third day, Xena suddenly had a craving for pastries from the north of the city.
Rachel didn’t argue and walked all the way from the south to the north of the city on foot.
But when she returned with the pastries, Xena wrinkled her nose in disdain. “They’re too cold. Go buy them again.”
Without saying a word, Rachel turned and ran back.
This time, a torrential downpour suddenly began.
In order to keep the pastries dry, Rachel took off her coat and tightly wrapped it around the pastries, allowing herself to get drenched in the rain.
She didn’t even bother to wipe the rain off her face and ran desperately toward the Harris family home.
But as she crossed the street, a car lost control and headed straight for her!
“Bang!”
Rachel was thrown into the air like a broken-winged butterfly, crashing heavily onto the ground.
Her consciousness blurred the moment she hit the ground. The screeching of the car’s brakes, the gasps of passersby, and the sound of sirens… everything began to fade away.
Just when she thought she was about to die, a hurried voice called out from a distance.
“Miss! Miss! Are you okay? I’ll take you to the hospital right now!”
The driver shook her urgently, and Rachel gradually regained some awareness.
Her first instinct wasn’t to answer the driver’s question, but to look at the pastries she was holding.
Once she confirmed they were intact, she shakily stood up and weakly spoke, “No... it’s fine. I still have something to do.”
After saying that, she pushed the driver’s hand away and, covered in blood, staggered toward the Harris family home.
Rachel gritted her teeth, bearing the pain as she handed the pastries to Xena.
Xena looked at her, drenched in blood and in a pitiful state, her eyes filled with disdain.
She didn’t take the pastries. Instead, she casually pointed to the pool outside. “You’re just in time. My necklace is missing. Go down and get it for me.”
Rachel’s body trembled violently.
She had just been hit by a car and her entire body was in excruciating pain. If she had to go into the pool to retrieve the necklace, she might die in there.
Seeing that Rachel didn’t move, Xena’s expression immediately darkened. She tugged at Sean’s hand and acted pitifully. “Sean…”
Sean didn’t look at her. He simply coldly waved his hand toward the bodyguard.
The bodyguard immediately stepped forward and dragged Rachel toward the pool.
The box of pastries fell to the ground, and the pastries scattered everywhere.
“Splash!”
The cold water instantly enveloped her, rushing into her mouth, nose, and ears, drowning out the last bit of oxygen she had left.
Rachel struggled desperately, trying to get to the surface. But every time her head broke through the water, the bodyguard pushed her back down.
“Mr. Harris said that you can only get out of the water once you find the necklace.”
These words hit Rachel’s heart like a heavy hammer.
Her lungs felt like they were on fire, but she gritted her teeth and submerged herself again and again.
Time passed, second by second.
Finally, in the last moment when she was about to lose all strength, she found the necklace.
When she climbed to the surface and handed the necklace to the bodyguard, her body went limp, and she fainted completely.
