The marriage between the two prominent families of the Harris and Brown families attracted the attention of high society, with celebrities from all walks of life attending.
In the solemn church, Sean, dressed in a sharp suit, stood beside the priest, frequently glancing at his phone.
Early this morning, he had sent a message to Rachel, asking whether she would attend his wedding.
Of course, Sean didn't actually expect Rachel to attend like an ordinary guest. He wanted her to witness with her own eyes as he walked down the aisle with another woman, wanting her to see just how well he was doing without her.
But until now, Rachel had not replied to his message.
This was very unlike her.
She, who was so weak and obsessive, would have immediately responded, saying that she would come.
Then, she would have used the opportunity to threaten him with some vicious intentions, possibly extorting a large sum of money.
Therefore, Sean had already arranged for numerous bodyguards. If Rachel dared to cause a scene at his wedding, those responsible would immediately cover her mouth and drag her away.
But Rachel hadn't replied a single word.
Staring at the blank message thread, Sean gripped his phone tighter and tighter.
Finally, he lowered his head and instructed his assistant standing beside him, “Go check on what’s going on with Rachel.”
Just as the assistant nodded and was about to leave, Sean suddenly called him back, adding, “Whether she’s willing or not, even if she’s dead, bring her here.”
As soon as Sean finished speaking, the priest beside him reminded him that the wedding was about to start.
Only then did Sean shift his gaze towards the heavy, closed doors at the distance.
With the sound of the choir singing in the background, the large doors slowly creaked open.
The bride, in a pristine white wedding gown, holding a bouquet of lilies of the valley, slowly walked toward him.
The warm sunlight filtered through the stained glass, casting a glow on the bride’s figure, making her appear even more beautiful and enchanting.
Not only did the guests on either side of the flower aisle marvel at the bride's beauty, but even the groom himself, standing in the distance, stopped breathing.
For some reason, Sean suddenly thought of Rachel.
A long time ago, when they were still very poor, Rachel and he had passed by a wedding dress shop on their way home.
The exquisite wedding gowns in the window made the young girl gaze at them with longing and envy.
Back then, Sean had been financially strained, yet he promised Rachel that once he had money, he would buy her the most expensive wedding dress in the world.
But Rachel shook her head, saying she wanted to wear a wedding dress she had made with her own hands, just like her mother had.
The more Rachel spoke, the more excited she became, even saying where the wedding should take place and what the decorations should be.
It felt like it was such a long time ago, yet in the blink of an eye, here they were.
Sean looked around, noting how beautifully the wedding venue had been arranged.
Because it was a union between two families, the decorations at the wedding also incorporated some of his own ideas.
Among the many design drafts, by some strange stroke of fate, Sean had chosen the design that Rachel liked.
Now, everything at the wedding was exactly as Rachel had envisioned, except that the bride was someone else.
Sean glanced at the woman who had just taken her place beside him, Xena. His eyes were as calm as ever.
This calm gaze did not escape Xena, who was behind her veil, and the smile on her face instantly froze.
In fact, she had noticed Sean’s absent-mindedness the moment she entered the hall.
It would be a lie to say she wasn’t upset, but then she thought about how the greatest threat had already been removed, and she was about to marry into the Harris family, becoming Harris’s wife.
Such a small detail wasn’t worth causing a scene over. After all, time was long, and one day, she would make Sean’s heart belong entirely to her.
With that thought in mind, Xena quickly flashed a sweet smile again.
Soon, the priest announced the start of the wedding.
Sean took Xena’s hand, listening to the wedding vows the priest recited to countless couples before them.
At the end of the vows, the priest solemnly turned to the groom.
“Mr. Harris, do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
Sean paused and looked at Xena in front of him.
Her beautiful face, with a pair of bright, expectant eyes gazing at him lovingly.
Yet, in his mind, Rachel’s eyes suddenly appeared.
The pain in her eyes felt like a dagger piercing deep into his chest, and he bent over in agony.
His heart began to race uncontrollably, a sense of inexplicable panic overwhelming him, as if his heart might jump out of his chest at any moment.
Xena, standing across from him, noticed his strange expression and instinctively reached out to help him.
But Sean waved his hand to signal her not to.
After a long time, Sean finally suppressed that inexplicable panic.
He took a deep breath, and just as he was about to say the words "I do," a sudden, sharp ringtone pierced through the air!
